Brotherhood United
Brotherhood United is a game that you might want to play if you've run out of other run-and-gun shooters. The shooting may have been fine if the modern mechanics weren't thrown in, but the multitude of annoyances, from the bad pixel graphics to low customization and inability to easily convey vital stats to the player, combine to make for a terrible overall experience. Considering the vast library at your disposal, Brotherhood United is an easy pass.
Brotherhood United is an entertaining beat ‘em up at a budget price. It might not be perfect, but there’s just the right amount of run-and-gun action to keep genre fans entertained.
Brotherhood United‘s target audience is unclear – purists have better alternatives available and newbies probably won’t be sold on the genre by the flaws on show. Still, this is a decent enough game for a couple of hours at most.

This was the 2nd purchase I made on the Switch. I have played it for several hours. It costed $2.49 on the eShop. While the game is an obvious budget game, the gameplay is fun and challenging. The game doesn't take itself too seriously but is bloody and gruesome. The controls are simple: run, shoot, punch, kick, jump, and the top buttons aim diagonal up or down on the move. Enemies are a little repetitive but it doesn't cheap my thrill for the game; you get all the enemies you kind of expect. The weapons are cool and you get a variety of guns that all too quickly run out of ammo. In the beginning, the game kept me hooked for 30-45minutes at a time but the third level halted my progress over and over and I got tired of playing the first two levels. Unfortunately you only get a few continues before you have to restart the game. This is what ultimately got me tired of playing the game - beating the first two levels over and over used up most of my continues, so I rarely got to inspect level 3. While this probably kept me playing the game longer than if I had simply beat the game with unlimited continues, it also gets old replaying the first 2 levels. I think they should have added a way to get extra men, continues, or a longer life bar. It's hard not to die, and the boss at the end of level 2 took me a while to figure out his pattern. He is the one-eyed guy who is on the cover art. Man, is he a toughie! The game should probably last anyone 3-5 hours and is the kind of game where I wanted to try it another run. After so many replays, though, I got annoyed and stopped playing it. Still I remember the quality of the gameplay. It runs smooth, looks smooth, arcade style gameplay, the controls and buttons are responsive and I ate up the old-style graphics. Good game worth $2.49 in my opinion but not more relative to other games on the Switch. I won't recommend it to everyone but if you watch gameplay footage and it appeals to you, then, I see no reason you wouldn't enjoy the little run and gun, side scrolling shooter. I don't understand Metacritics' 49 score either. It's better game than that. I assume Broforce may be better, can't wait to try it.

Its gameplay may be functional but Brotherhood United is so trite and stereotypical that it's difficult to recommend to anyone.

There are aspects of Brotherhood United which are promising, but at this point, it’s an experience which feels unpolished. I had the game crash on me as well as several sections where the background music just wasn’t there. Overall, it just feels like a game I could have stumbled upon on Miniclip back in 2003, and it wouldn’t have felt out of place, nor would it have stuck in my mind.
