Definitely not for the squeamish, but if you're looking for a cold, ruthless, and literally bloodthirsty antihero to keep you occupied for 15-20 hours, Kain definitely fits the bill. [Summer 2002, p.86]

Blood Omen 2's world is so realistically brought to life that you'll be checking your fingernails for grit after climbing Kain up the sides of rocky walls. [Apr 2002, p.63]

An enjoyable game that's always challenging but never frustrating. [June 2002, p.118]

This is one of my favorite games from my childhood. I honestly can't count how many times I replayed it back then. The atmosphere, characters, and story left a huge impression on me growing up.That said, if I were to play Blood Omen 2 for the first time today, I doubt I'd enjoy it as much. Gaming has evolved so much, and what once felt like perfection now shows its age. A big part of my love for this game is tied to nostalgia, and I recognize that it may not hold up well for new players unfamiliar with the series.Still, I love the Legacy of Kain series and truly hope it gets revived or remastered someday. There's something timeless about its world and characters that deserves another chance.

The game does really offer some great gaming moments, addictive hard-to-put down levels and some great boss fights.

The visuals aren't as flashy as some more recently released titles for the console, but the cool storyline and gameplay more than make up for it.
82
The game has a remarkably easy to use control setup, and the addition of a training mode right at the outset is a blessing for those new to the series.
74
It's not a triple-A, system seller, but it's a solid game none the less. If you enjoy story-driven games, gothic settings, or vampire bad asses, you'll enjoy BO2.

So while this may not offer the same level of ingenuity as the original Blood Omen, it’s certainly more varied than the Soul Reaver games.
62
Once the "coolness" fades after the third hour, you will wish you would have rented this and not purchased it.

The story could easily have been told in a third of the time, leaving room for more substantial narrative and perhaps even more inventive level and game design.
