Blast Brigade vs. the Evil Legion of Dr. Cread

While it does not redefine the genre, Blast Brigade's demanding but fair gameplay, competent execution and memorable boss fights, as well as a gorgeous art style and plenty of humour will make this a safe bet for any fans of action platformers looking for a fun time.

Despite my gripes with pacing and some insane difficulty spikes when it comes to platforming, Blast Brigade is a true gem and a fantastic addition to the genre. The stellar presentation is a delightful send-up to 80’s action and Saturday morning cartoons, creating a Metroidvania that truly manages to feel unique despite being part of perhaps one of the most saturated genres in gaming. If like me, you’re a fan of tight gunplay, rewarding exploration, and things stuffed with 80’s charm, then you’ll likely consider Blast Brigade to be twenty hours of your time well spent.

Blast Brigade vs the Evil Legion of Dr. Cread does just about everything a Metroidvania-style game should, and that makes it very easy to recommend to fans of the genre. I don’t think it’s going to convince anyone who is tired of this sort of game, because apart from its sense of humor it’s not really doing anything unusual for the genre. But what it does, it does well. The graphics are good, the controls are solid, the pacing and progression is more or less where it should be, the boss battles are enjoyable, and the map designs are good. It’s always fun when something so well-made as this comes seemingly out of nowhere.

Blast Brigade is a difficult game to review. It's a lot of fun and we enjoyed our 20 or so hours with it, mopping up secrets and collectables. We can't recommend it enough if you've still got a hankering for Metroidvanias, but those exhausted with the formula aren't going to find any major deviations here. Perhaps we would feel differently had the game come out a couple of years ago, but now? Blast Brigade is still a terrific Metroidvania, and one of the best we've played outside of the very tippy-top tier (Symphony of the Night, et al). Get it straight away if you even slightly think you will enjoy it, because you almost certainly will. It has the same affection packed into it as the likes of Kaze and the Wild Masks, a real love letter to Metroidvanias. Truly exceptional it isn't, but Blast Brigade remains a great time if you're not suffering from genre fatigue.

While not revolutionary, this is a good metroidvania for players who are looking for a more action-oriented take on the genre.

Despite its problems, Blast Brigade is fun if you don’t mind beating your head against the wall at times. While its linear nature doesn’t always do a good job of scratching the Metroidvania itch, what’s there is a solid action game with fantastic boss battles.

As always, I must first say that I’m not a hardcore gamer who enjoys big challenges, so old-school platform games aren’t really my thing — mostly because of their **** here, Blast Brigade is no exception. I’ve been stuck on the second boss for hours and can’t progress or enjoy it anymore, so I’m stopping for now. But that’s just about me, not the game **** fact, I wish I were a better player so I could experience more of this gem that is Blast Brigade. The game is beautiful, the humor is simple but charming, the gameplay is solid, and there are so many lovable ****’s the first time a game like this actually makes me sad to have to give up on it.However, for those who are fans of the genre, I highly recommend it!

Arcaico, realmente no hay mucho mas que añadir, el juego es flojo en todo y solo destaca en su colorido estilo visual. el gunplay esta muy mal calibrado y nunca llega a ser disfrutable. El retraso a la hora de poder mirar abajo en la pantalla es insufrible, pero lo que me ha hecho desistalarlo de inmediato es la pereza que da el retroceder por el mapa. mediocre.
