Beyond Enemy Lines
A rather solid game, good gameplay which kept me on my toes and thinking at all times. Alright gunfights that were often over rather quickly and occasionally featured twitching AI whom I wasn’t sure if they were still alive or not and good use of a low-budget and his own skills. I predict great things for this developer as long as he doesn’t get greedy! Much better than their previous game! Well done Polygon Art!
The playing field is so dramatically stacked against you, and the rules of engagement so staggeringly poor and badly realised that the whole experience is incredibly frustrating rather than rewarding. The presentation is lacklustre to say the least, and the game struggles to bring anything worthwhile to the table. A one-man development project is admirable, and his continued support with the release of new maps is to be commended. Unfortunately, the title fails to fulfil its basic tag-line premise of being at all ‘tactical’, or offering any kind of ‘sandbox’.

From the three levels that I played, I noticed that this game is basically a Project IGI remake with better graphics but made a lot more difficult. As if Project IGI was not already difficult enough. Enemies in this game can see you from a great distance and are super precise when shooting and hit you all the time even if you try jumping around like an idiot. This makes each mission largely frustrating, as each enemy can kill you by himself. If an enemy sees you, it is basically a certain death. So, you should use stealth, but that's almost impossible as well, as there are so many enemies that it is very difficult to get through the levels unseen. In the original game, it was possible to do the missions by killing everyone. This cannot be done here, as it will surely lead to your death. The levels are remakes of the ones in IGI and the objectives are the same. You cannot save the game during a mission (as in the original game). You can take multiple approaches towards each mission which is a plus. Well, if you are ready to take on this challenge, good luck to you! I'll rather remember the original game. Rather than trying this frustratingly difficult game, i would suggest replaying the old game instead. I deduced points for the brutal and unfair difficulty, some strange bugs (such as enemies getting stuck in wooden doors or my character climbing a ladder but not being able to get off it properly - and he kept climbing to the roof instead of the tower platform). Also, points were deduced for being a simple remake and not trying new levels. Maybe there are some original levels in the game later on, but unfortunately I don't have enough patience to test it out. The final thing I want to mention - I wasn't a fan of the graphic upgrade, as everything sort of blended together for me - it was hard to recognize enemies etc. Also, the use of your mini map is done in a very slow manner and you have to zoom in way too much in order to see your enemies. Your binoculars do not show enemies either. TLDR: Play Project IGI and if you want to torture yourself, play this game instead.
