While not suitable for those sensitive to flashing lights and jump scares, Alan Wake 2 is a unique must-play for fans of weird horror and creative flair. The additions and improvements to gameplay are a welcome change, with less focus on the action and more attention paid to narrative. That being said, Alan Wake 2 still excels in all departments, and the slightly frustrating sections can be forgiven when receiving the rewards of more story. I have avoided describing the convoluted story in too much detail - due to the high cinematic standard, Alan Wake 2 is best experienced first-hand.

Alan Wake 2 is a thrilling follow-up to its original, with a rich, intertwining narrative and genuinely terrifying moments. Aside from some combat pitfalls, it’s a nearly flawless sequel.

Call it a masterpiece or a work of art. Both apply. I rate the game as five stars out of five.

One of the best if not the best survival horror of this generation. Incredible graphics with an amazing immersive atmosphere. The story can feel a bit confusing if you dont pay fully attention throughout the game.

Oh my god this game completely blew me away. The graphics are absolutely incredible and the environments and lighting are some of the best I have seen in a game. The atmosphere is amazing and the whole game feels very cinematic. The gameplay mechanics are also improved a lot compared to the first game. Combat feels better and the enemies are tougher which makes encounters more intense. The story is still amazing and the pacing works really well because of the dual protagonist structure. Both Saga and Alan have important roles in the story. I personally enjoyed Saga’s sections more because they have more action and investigation elements. Alan’s parts are interesting too but they are more about surviving inside the dark twisted place where he is trapped. Overall I liked this game even more than the first one. The story, graphics and gameplay improvements make it an incredible experience. I really hope they continue expanding this universe because it has become one of my favorite game worlds.

Remedy deserves all the praise I can muster for being brave enough to make some exciting design choices that limit Alan Wake 2's mass appeal, but increase the enjoyment for those of us who remain. They deserve for me to call this game what I think it is - a masterpiece.

13 years since its predecessor, Alan Wake 2 was absolutely worth the wait. Improving on the original in every way, with Remedy embracing their inspirations, and honing their craft, Alan Wake 2 is a surrealist horror masterpiece.

An expertly crafted narrative and two fascinating main characters make for a lovingly crafted sequel that is well and truly worth the 13-year wait.

Alan Wake 2 is the best Remedy Entertainment game, and is a strong contender for one of the best games of 2023.

Alan Wake 2 is a creative, atmospheric story highlight, but from a technical point of view it gives you little nightmares on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

I adored the first Alan Wake, and I’ve either loved or liked every Remedy game since then. This is the first time I’ve felt so displeased by the studio’s work I’ve actually been angry about it. The pompous writing, the shoehorned mechanics that push a tiresome narrative conceit over the quality of the narrative itself, the archaic combat, the amount of time it spends doing almost nothing, Alan Wake 2 is fucking insufferable most of the time...It’s impossible to tell where the stylistically bad writing of the title character ends and the inadvertently bad game of Alan Wake 2 begins. The difference, at this point, matters not.

Maravilloso juego de inicio a fin, aunque no es de todos los gustos una vez que le agarras el chiste el juego es una pasada.

The continuation of the first game is definitely better in all aspects; however, I was still left a little underwhelmed by the whole experience. First of all, the gameplay — probably the best part, but only when we talk about Saga’s sequences. It was fun to explore and slowly reveal hidden corners, equipment, etc. Enemies were more fun than in the first game; I only got tired of them at the end, when I would rather rush through. Again, speaking only about Saga’s sequences. As for Alan, I was really struggling, and it was frustrating to deal with them. Coming to Alan — god, his parts were so boring. Apart from the atmosphere (which was good) I couldn’t care for some of the episodes. The echoes were annoying. Some features, such as scene switching, were fun, though. Storyline — it’s a shame, but I only noticed a slight improvement here. I had a feeling as if the game was trying to be as deep and mysterious as possible, but it ended up being shallow. The writing looked as if it was done by a teenager who decided to write a mind-bending book, but it was their first. I felt like I was in a live episode of Riverdale (it even contains a musical, gosh). Especially the ending felt unnecessarily long. Visuals and design — another strong aspect of the game. I loved the atmosphere of the levels, especially the woods and the fair. A big negative point is the very cheap, flashy jump scares. When you have a good atmosphere, you don’t need this in a horror game. It’s probably just a preference, but it annoyed me a lot. There were some parts where I encountered bugs too. My dualsense adaptive touch struggled too and I had to even turn it off. I would wrap this up by saying that I get why this game has so much hype, but I may not be in the group of people giving it a 10. Due to this hype, I was expecting to leave excited as a big horror fan. It was still a fun time, though.

I have tried twice to get into Alan Wake 2. I have only made it a couple of hours in each time. It is a slow, dull burn. My time is valuable and there are too many other games out there that are more deserving of my time. Graphically the game is amazing and maybe the story gets really interesting down the line, but Im not going to keep playing hours on in, with that hope in my mind. A whole lot of walking around and my God the mind place is such a waste of time, pouring through data that does nothing to push the story forward. Everything in this place could just be experience in real time in the world vs going to this room to pin **** to the wall....time to move on.

Alan wake 2 is confusing, has serious pacing issues and the amount of time you spend doing absolutely nothing is ridiculous. Not even remotely close to what made the OG Alan Wake a classic. I almost can't bear to continue playing this game.
SummaryShed some light on what has long been obscured by darkness. After 11 long years, the writer's return is a reality and the dangers lurking in the dark are even more sinister than the Taken roaming Bright Falls. Alan Wake 2 turns up the level of dread as our very first dive into the survival horror genre, so expect a chilling experience w... Read More
