If there were a game version of Twin Peaks, it would be Alan Wake. The great Pacific Northwest is a magnificently eerie backdrop for a horror story coming to life. It paces the combat and slower moments well, and it's nice not to have to fight every fight: running away works just as good. The overdone narrator voice gets annoying at times, but luckily Alan's musings lessen towards the end of the game. [May 2010]

Alan Wake is definitely art, and is well written enough to keep my wife and I on the edge of our seats from beginning to end. If I can admit something, and give Alan Wake the biggest compliment I can bestow, I’d tell you that I had a nightmare about the game the night after I completed it. No horror game has ever managed that feat or even come close. It may have taken them five years to kick it out of the door, but Remedy has created a masterpiece.

A challenging and genuinely frightening experience...As a survival horror, Alan Wake succeeds admirably, and comes highly recommended. But as a self-proclaimed "psychological action thriller", it falls short of its ambition.

While Remedy introduces a new, innovative mechanic of using light as your weapon, the game gets repetitive after a while. However, it does have some redeeming qualities, like its compelling story and action-packed combat. 4/5 stars.

Always been a Sony fanboy, I bought a 360 just for this game and boy am I glad I did.
Great story, awesome Twin Peaks mood, ok combat (didn’t age too well but back in the day it was pretty good).

Ultimately, Alan Wake is driven -- as is any good story -- by the impulse to see what happens next. It offers up a believable world, characters worth caring about, enjoyable combat and a narrative I wanted to follow.

Alan Wake doesn't revolutionize the video game medium, but it will definitely get inside gamers' heads.

It may not be a masterpiece, but Alan Wake is one of the best games we played on Xbox 360 in the last six months. Stephen King fans will love it.

Alan Wake may not be the most innovative title in terms of game play, but it does serve up a solid playing experience.

In conclusion, Alan Wake delivers with an interesting and sturdy gaming experience, however for me, the whole experience seemed a little dated from the combat engine to certain gaming moments that we've seen it all before.

For a game five years in the making this is a disappointingly trivial and repetitive actioner.

As a fan of Twin Peaks and Stephen King novels, this game took me on a wild ride with its thrills and twists. Remedy really created something phenomenal with Alan Wake. The gameplay is very fun and the lighting is beautiful. Definetely play this game.

I wasn't really engaged in the story at first but I must admit that the story was very good. Unfortunately this game Lack of verity in almost everything. Everything looks almost the same. Same enemies, same locations, same weapons. Honestly graphic is dull and washout of any colors besides dark green (I guess a lot of Xbox360 era games have this issue) but... The ideas, music writing, characters and the fun in building the world around by developers ware amazing. Alan wake is not the best game ever but surely I will remember it for it's unconventional storytelling and world building.

Boring and ordinary gameplay, uninvolving, uninteresting generic convoluted survival plot, terrible writing, sub-par graphics, and cliched horror survival mechanics all come together to make Alan Wake.

This is an example of someone who has a decent story idea and then implements it so poorly with game design. Horrible camera, very annoying combat, graphics don't utilize any modern graphics enhancements (kind of caps out at mediocre 1080p-ish), and poor character control too. The atmosphere is good and the story is decent, but it definitely isn't worth the supreme annoyances from so many of the other parts of the game.
SummaryAlan Wake is a psychological action thriller, a unique new take in the world of gaming. The game is set in an idyllic all-American small town and its surroundings in the state of Washington. Alan Wake, the game's protagonist, is a bestselling horror writer, who writes a novel about his darkest nightmares. In the game, those nightmares co... Read More
