As "silly and childish" as this game may seem, don't be fooled, it's a work of art. First, I must highlight the clear inspiration of this game from Super Mario Galaxy, being similar enough to give that same feeling and different enough not to be plagiarism — in fact, it's not even close. So yes, A Hat in Time can be played by all ages and the experience will be excellent.Starting with the soundtrack. This game rivals many AAA titles when it comes to its music. The songs are memorable and enjoyable to listen to, which provides a phenomenal experience while playing.Moving on to the gameplay, as I mentioned, it has several similarities to Mario, but it's still quite different. In this game you collect hats, each with a different mechanic that makes you explore the game's areas. Yes, A Hat in Time is divided into areas, each with a different theme and mechanics.I highly recommend buying and playing it. One tip I can give is, if you're using the controller, change an option so you can move the right analog stick in all directions (by default, it has a rather awkward oblique view).

A Hat in Time isn't your usual 3d platformer. It is a charming game with amazing characters, great levels and an amazing soundtrack. It is today one of my favorite games of all time and a game that shows that 3d platformers can be so much more. The game's secret message is that everything in this game shows something called the fear of growing up with metaphorical ways of explaining it via the levels, music and characters. It is hard to see but when you look into it, it becomes truly special, not just for it's gameplay, but for its charm and unique personality. 10/10.

Its well made, great game, but it feels so random. Mafia town? Ghost forest with colorful flames and apples that explode if a worm gets into them? Its just a lot of stuff that isnt really connected to each other at all. There isnt much of a story, you just hop between planets collecting your hourglasses. No plot deeper than that. Thus i dont feel engaged. It feels like a sandbox almost.

I like it so much because it feels like you’re never going to run out of things to do with there being so many acts and Steam Workshop levels. There’s no microtransactions, which a lot of modern day games have and I hate that! With co-op it’s so fun to explore the big world with two people. The story is kind of confusing but still pretty good I think. The graphics are really pretty even when they’re squished into split screen coop. The controls are very easy to use and easily memorizable without needing to look at the controls menu.

I absolutely love this game, the music is a masterpiece, the graphics are also a masterpiece, co-op on PC is amazing since it’s split screen yet consoles co-op isnt. I love replaying this game from time to time

A Hat in Time is still up there as one of my favorite indie games of all time, and I think it’s easy to see why. Everything from the art style, gameplay, level design, and memorable characters makes this one a strong contender for one of the most fun and charming video games out there, and it shows that there is still love for 3D platformers, even if it’s only from the indies or Nintendo. Yes, the narrative is pretty standard for 3D platformers. Still, the characters are just so entertaining and memorable that it doesn’t even matter, not to mention that some of them have pretty tragic backstories, especially the main antagonist of the game. The game also has a cute message about companionship, self-sacrifice, and the redemption of others. Not everything about the game is perfect: Chapter 6 of the game is a bit meh for the most part, and even though the developers were on a budget, I wish that the fifth chapter of the game had at least a few more acts. Despite this, these issues aren’t a major detriment to the rest of this wonderful game, and I’m sure that Gears for Breakfast has a bright future ahead of them.

pretty great overall game. while it is somewhat easy and does have a sometimes disagreeable camera, it is still a lot of fun and has a pretty great soundtrack.

It's cute, it's just the right amount of hard, it's cute again, the story is just so-so, the minigames are fun and cute.

Generally quite a good game. It got fine platforming and some music was added to my playlist. However, the fight system is oversimplified and gets boring. Overall, for its intended audience it is superior, but older players might not find it very interesting.

From my first 5 minutes of playing this game, I knew this was going to be one of my top 10 favorite games of all time. Between the fun story, the whacky and hilarious characters, the smooth and nostalgic gameplay, as well as the beautiful looking worlds made this game an absolute blast to play. When I finally completed the story of the game, I was honestly sad that it was over. But seriously, Hat Girl is such an adorable character with an amazing personality that she portrays wiithout saying a single word. Hands down one of my favorite characters.

Rating Scale:
10-9: Enjoyed (almost) all the time
8-7: Enjoyed most the time
5-6: Overall enjoyable, but some things I dislike
3-4: Mostly not enjoyable, with some pleasant moments
1-2: Not enjoyable (almost) all the time.
Prelimary thoughts after the first chapter: This game's movement is unparalleled. Just moving around the different worlds is so fun. However, other than the first world (Mafia Town), the level design does not always align with what I like. I prefer more open-world, exploratory worlds, but here many world are a bit too linear for my tastes. Still, just moving through the world is cool, maybe I will like this even more when I try out some mods. Some other minor things that bug me:
First, it would be great if one would not always have to exit the world for the next act of the chapter. Second, there is no real way to keep track of all collectibles one already has gotten. Third, the game may lack a minor collectible. I think making coins a minor collectible (similar to purple coins in Mario Odyssey) would make exploration even more fun and rewarding.

Honestly my favourite game of all time, the controls are so incredibly smooth, the character having so much charm and generally just amazing levels. The soundtrack is great and i love the artstyle. The DLCs also give players the option of more gameplay and higher difficulty which is always welcome. The polish is great and it's such a shame that there aren't more 3d collectathon platformers on the PC like this one.

Overall good for some fun. It has a charming style, its collectibles are fun to puzzle out, and its map design is decent and interconnected. Overall though it just completely failed to grab me, some maps are way better than others to play and the powerup mechanics are mediocre. i suspect that 3d platformers just aren't for me.

This game is a masterpiece. The visuals are great, the music is fantastic, and the controls and gameplay are perfect. Nyakuza Metro and Seal the Deal are amazing DLCs to the base game, and every voice actor does their part perfectly.

This is one of the best platformers ever made. And I say all this without having played the Death Wish challenge mode or the Creator DLC (sadly, that is PC only). Highly recommend.

A Hat in Time is a delightful and whimsical platformer that successfully captures the essence of classic 3D platforming games from the bygone era. Developed by Gears for Breakfast, this game manages to strike the perfect balance between nostalgia and innovation, offering a charming and memorable experience that will captivate both newcomers and fans of the genre. One of the first things that stands out about A Hat in Time is its gorgeous art style. The game boasts a vibrant and colorful aesthetic that feels like a love letter to the golden age of 3D platformers. Each world you visit is beautifully crafted, with attention to detail and a distinct personality. From the cozy, forest-filled hub world to the bizarre and whimsical environments, every level is a visual treat. The gameplay mechanics in A Hat in Time are a joy to experience. Controlling Hat Kid, the game's adorable protagonist, feels tight and responsive. The variety of hats she can equip adds a layer of versatility to her abilities, allowing for creative approaches to platforming challenges. The level design is cleverly crafted, with a mix of challenging platforming sequences, engaging puzzles, and entertaining boss fights that keep you on your toes. Each level is unique and offers its own set of mechanics and objectives, preventing the game from ever feeling repetitive. The narrative of A Hat in Time is surprisingly engaging, offering a whimsical and lighthearted story that gradually unfolds as you progress through the game. The characters you encounter are colorful and memorable, and their interactions with Hat Kid bring a sense of life and personality to the game world. The humor is often charming and genuinely funny, creating an enjoyable atmosphere throughout the adventure. The game's soundtrack deserves a special mention. Composed by Pascal Michael Stiefel, the music perfectly complements the game's whimsical nature, evoking a sense of wonder and adventure. Each track is carefully crafted to match the tone and theme of the levels, enhancing the overall experience and immersing the player even further into the game world. While A Hat in Time offers an incredibly enjoyable experience, it's not without a few minor flaws. The camera controls, while generally functional, can sometimes be a bit finicky and cause frustrating moments. Additionally, a few technical hiccups and occasional frame rate drops can momentarily disrupt the otherwise smooth gameplay. Overall, A Hat in Time is an absolute delight for fans of 3D platformers. Its charming art style, engaging gameplay mechanics, well-crafted levels, and captivating soundtrack make for an unforgettable experience. Despite a few minor flaws, the game shines with its attention to detail, creative design, and pure nostalgic appeal. Whether you're a long-time fan of the genre or a newcomer looking for a whimsical adventure, A Hat in Time is an absolute must-play that will leave you with a smile on your face.

This game is great. All the levels are full of personality and life, the movement is tight and is some ways better than most 3D Mario games. I'd give it a 10, but the Seal the Deal DLC and Alpine Skyline level aren't great, but still alright. If you're a fan of platformers, I definitely recommend this game.

An underrated Gem ****, Nintendo quality with a Mario Galaxy cross Mario 64 / Banjo Kazooie vibe (yet has it's own awesome characters and design) I enjoyed it thoroughly. Highly recommended. Nintendo need to hire these Dev's to produce Nintendo Games.. on second thoughts, no.. because then people on other platforms can't play it. Hope these guys get more support and create more games of this style and calibre. Nintendo might have some serious competition. It also support mods on pc!!!!!

So many weird design choices with this game. Gameplay **** and the camera is annoying as all hell. Makes me think they don't really understand what made 3D platformers popular in the first place and just think its all about nostalgia with cute characters, pretty graphics and music, although even the graphics in this game are kind of glitchy and ugly to look at. Level design is sparse, controls are downright awful, there's this weird thing where you press shift and the whole screen goes black to show a small circle of where to go so you can't see anything which you will constantly press trying to roll. There's automatic wall climbing and she wants to grab onto anything and everything in sight then the camera locks onto this girl you are supposed to chase with no warning whatsoever. Its like you being pulled in a million different directions. I honestly lasted a grand total of 30 seconds after the first level loaded before I quit. Terrible game. Just from a technical standpoint needs much longer in the oven before it is really even playable. Then they can work out everything else like the level design, game-play mechanics and graphics.

Yeah this game ****… thought I would like it because Mario Odyssey is my favourite game but no. It’s just really bad. Nothing good to say. Waste of time and money. Graphics bad, camera bad, platforming bad. Just pure garbage all the way through. I try to find some good in every game I play but wow this one is a real stinker!

I had a very pleasant experience with A Hat in Time. The game includes incredibly nice graphics, preety good voice acting and really solid platforming. Not to mention the music that is absolutely amazing and beautiful. The only thing that made the experience slightly uncomfortable is deffinitely the camera, which is a common problem for platformers I guess. But also your character acts kinda unstable on slopes. But if you ignore those problems, then you will have a damn good game on your hands. It's a must play for any 3D platformer fan!

A great platformer with a decent story and fun, interesting characters. Each world is dense and contains interesting missions that make the game an overall blast to play. The only real downsides in the game are the fact that there are frame rate issues at different parts of the game and that the combat overall is extremely simple.

A fun as heck campaign coupled with easy and smooth controls and a steam workshop full of numerous custom content makes for a game that sits on the same level as Mario Odyssey.

As an adult who genuinely loves and plays a wide variety of adventure games, my opinion of A Hat in Time is mixed, although it leans more to the positive side. The first two acts of the game are underwhelming, with their low difficulty and cheesy storylines providing an unappealing and dry introduction to the game that fails to keep your attention and lowers your expectations as a whole. However, as you progress into the later acts, the quality of the levels will improve and convince you enough to keep revisiting them to try to find all of their secrets. The gameplay is simplistic and there are not really any complex objectives. It is a true blue platformer that does not try to be overly ambitious. The collectables in the game are purely cosmetic and do not influence the gameplay in any advantageous manner, but they can convince you to explore every nook and cranny and climb to places you'd never think of just to retrieve them. Sadly, it doesn't take long for the collectables and currency to become pointless to acquire. A Hat in Time is short and does not look fully fleshed out. Although the game is beautiful and offers a decent amount to explore, it does not scratch the same itch as other adventure games designed in the same light such as Super Mario Sunshine. However, it can still be fun when played with a friend. A good lengthy cooperative night can make the experience enjoyable and hard to set aside.

One of the best games I have EVER played. The controls and movement is one of the best in a videogame ever. And the murder mystery. OH. MY. GOD. ITS SO GOOD. The game has some difficulty spikes at the boss battles, but It's really satisfying when you defeat them. This is what 3D platformers should strive to be.

This is such a good game. The music, the gameplay, and the characters are all amazing. It has some of the best movement in any game I have played with so many options of going around and the hat gimmick just adds to that. The worlds are so great with Mario Sunshine-type missions to complete. You go from a town taken over by the Mafia to a competition between a penguin and an owl where you have to star in their movies to give them positive reviews based on how well you played. There is also a forest inhabited by a shadow monster that makes you sign contracts after taking your soul and you also travel to a group of islands stretching above the sky. The DLC makes the game even better with a ship of seals called the "SS Literally Can't Sink" and work for a jewelry store owner to collect timepieces(like stars and shines from Mario) in the metro. There is also loads of customization for the different hats, costumes, and color schemes. Although there are only 40 timepieces in the base game, the DLC also adds a much harder mode containing missions that keep you coming back to the game to complete another objective. There is also a new multiplayer DLC that is basically infection but in A Hat in Time which is a great mode to play with some of your friends that get the game too. The $40 price for the base game with the first 2 DLC packs is a great steal so get it if you have the chance.

A Hat in Time is a wonderous journey through and through. I heard of this game through YouTube videos, and became instantly enamored with it. The bright and vibrant level, the charming characters, and the MUSIC, everything about it hooked me. Later, after I finally bought the game myself, I am happy to report I was not disappointed in the slightest. If you are at all a fan of 3D Platformer Collectathon type games, then you need to check out this game, you won't regret it.

This is a Mario Odyssey **** I loved every second of it, this game has so much charm and love put into it. The multiplayer is lacking but it more than makes up for it in the mods, if you ever feel that Mario itch for exploring than just play this game, and if you don’t still play it!
