What follows is a terrifically tense, and often very funny, cat-and-mouse chase – the kind that makes you want to reach for a calming cigarette yourself.

SAS Rogue Heroes is, frankly, subtle in the way an earthquake is subtle, but then that’s rather the point. War is loud, and war is hell. It is also, from the perspective of this series opener, an absolute hoot. It looks like it’s going to be a bumpy ride, chaps. Strap in.

Strike is often a little silly, even am-dram, and the script is clunky with exposition. .... Nevertheless, amidst the perfunctory nature of it all – the crime, the clues, the assorted malcontents – it still made for compelling comfort viewing.
