Time Bandits is far from a perfect translation of the beloved film — and thank god for that. It cleverly and successfully carves out its own identity while paying homage to the spirit of Gilliam’s original vision. Rather than visit the past, it forges its own worthwhile future.

More than merely pleasant, Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender offers an enjoyable mix of nostalgia and new ideas, fusing the novelty of seeing elemental bending in “real life” with the excitement of an evolving, worthwhile story.

Despite rocky beginnings and a live-action gimmick that doesn’t feel fully justified, In the Know brims with promise.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off has cajones, and thank god for it. The show could have been serviceable nostalgia bait, but instead, it delivers a deeply satisfying eight-episode arc, in turn setting a new standard for what legacy sequels can accomplish.
