Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

Although it may not look like dark souls, I assure you, it is. brutal difficulty, myriad of weapons and armor, and a strong cult following all still maintain in this sequal to the dark souls masterpiece. As far as how it handles and combat, it still keeps the same hack-n-slash play-style that its always had. The emphasis on blocking over dodging is still there, and a similar structure is upheld. Dark souls takes place in a different world with different and unique enemies and npc's, and the world design is as fantastic as ever. One thing that limits the exploratory foundation of the game, and something that was increased in this game that was not so prevalent in the original is fast travel. Fast travel is allowed right out of the gates in dark souls 2, and also allows you to teleport to any and all bonfires that you have discovered. I feel that this somewhat lessens the difficulty and fragments the incredible world design. Speaking of difficulty, dark souls 2 has plenty of it, but one feature in particular seems to push the difficulty to a level that seems almost unfair instead of just plain hard. Every time you die, your overall health bar goes down. Meaning that every time you die, you have less health than you did the life before. This feature will continue to affect you until it has drained your health bar down to half. That's, admittedly too far. The only way to counter this is to use a human effigy, which is like a humanity in the original DS. The problem with that is that, until much later in the game, human effigies a frickin hard to come by. Nonetheless, The early game bosses are significantly easier than in the original dark souls, so you should be able to make out of the first area with relative ease. The final verdict of dark souls 2 for me is that it doesn't necessarily capture the look or feel of dark souls souls, but it does capture the essence. That means that everything you loved from the original, as far as mechanics is concerned, returns in DS2. That being said, new features are also added like teleporting and loss of health on death. Some new mechanics are debatably good and others are arguably too much. As far as PvP is concerned, it's still the same laggy mess that it was in DS, but that didn't effect my grade of the game because it's not something I've ever cared for.

The division misses the mark on so many levels. Literally no story what-so-ever, in the beginning, you're introduced to the game by a kick-ass intro cut-scene, that makes you feel like you're going to be dropped into a world with enough story to at least keep you interested. Too bad that's all the actual story you get. A vague concept of gathering power, security, and medical supplies, to upgrade your home base that somehow also increases your individual combat ability, giving you perks and various abilities. The combat is actually very fun. If you can look past the fact that it takes a ridiculous amount of bullets to the head to kill an average enemy and hundreds to kill a boss, the combat is interesting and fun, with a strong emphasis on staying behind cover and waiting for the right time to strike. Multiplayer can also be very fun. Grouping together with FRIENDS can lead to some very strategically entertaining battles that make you feel like a badass, but only if you partner with friends. Grouping with random players is only seemed to me, to make the game massively unenjoyable. Enemy difficulty is ramped up and health is drastically increased, and with random players, there is little to no cooperation and a lot of deaths. Getting to level 30 for me was not entirely a drag, I frequented the dark zone, which is fun in small bursts for me, but too much drove me insane. all in all the game is slightly above average, but not what I'd expect from a game I've been waiting for for 3 years

I started playing ARR back in a couple of months ago. After all the countless hours it took to get to heavansward, I was still ready to keep going. Being introduced into the incredibly massive worlds like western coerthas, Dravanian hinterlands, and the floating islands was one of the coolest experiences in my video game career. Plenty of dungeons and trials, the raid Alexander, and countless things to farm to keep you interested. The only major thing that I deduct points for is the duty finder. The duty finder ****. God only knows how long it will take for me to get into a stage in the raid, or do my daily roulettes. The duty finder for me takes away a lot of the fun that I have in the game especially when I'm trying to farm for various objects in dungeons or raids. Some instances it takes 15 minutes just to do a trial that will take no more than 10 minutes. How this was countered was letting you play like normal in the regular game while you are waiting. Although this takes away from the hype of doing some awesome content, This feature helps lessen the boredom. All in all, This game can at times leave you speechless by how cool it is and the concept is amazing, but the duty finder and many smaller inconveniences take away from much of the excitement

Dark Souls 3 encapsulates the essence of both dark souls and bloodborne in a way that feels almost seamlessly fluid. The environment in Dark Souls 3 is a blatant mixture of both games in a commonly not so subtle way. The undead settlement and most of the early game locations has a very strong bloodborne feel, while the later locations in the game give off the same tone as the first dark souls **** combat allows for the use of shields once more, yet shields still hold less power than they did in dark souls and maintains the strategy of dodging first blocking second that bloodborne incorporated. Many early game weapons are versatile enough to be able to be used until very late game content, like the long sword for example. Bosses in dark souls 3 are no less brutal than it's predecessors either. Right off the bat, you are thrust into an intense fight with a large knight, and then when you think you've figured him out, he transforms into another monster entirely and forces the player to change their tactics and rethink their strategy. This is a theme that is held all the way through the game and forces the player to become a quick thinker or be punished. And that is the beauty of the game. A game that forces the player to get better without any handicaps to help you succeed is exactly what the souls series has thrives off of for years and this is no different. Sadly, now that dark souls has successfully made it to the mainstream more and more people are playing, which means there are more casual gamers that will give the game a bad name and call it unfair even though it's just them not understanding the concept of the game, and also drive away many of the experienced souls veterans who partially love the game because of it's exclusivity. In a completely unbiased review, Dark Souls 3 is near perfect for souls standards but doesn't' deserve a 10 because it doesn't just borrow from it's previous titles, but straight up steals from it by literally recreating areas from previous games and npc's as well, and although this is cool for nostalgia, it is also very uncreative. Along with that, some of the level design is questionable. That being said, besides recreated levels and some questionable level design choices, dark souls 3 has reminded me the scope of the original, while also maintaining some modern flair

Ridiculous amounts of guns, constant eye-popping action, vibrant environments, and one of the best villains in video game history. The sequal to borderlands hits on all cylinders and capitalizes on all the mistakes of the original while amplifying all the great parts. I've never played a game that's captured my attention for as long as this game has. 1000+ hours, 15 total play-throughs, and I still want to dive into the world of Pandora again and kill some more robots. Adding onto the original game, which was criticized for monotonous environments, borderlands 2 offers everything from acid-flooded grounds of the caustic caverns to the to the ice-covered walls of the fridge, any complaints about monotonous environments has been blown out of the water by this game as far as amplifying the great parts of the original, combat in this game has been overhauled and added massive amounts of color and explosives to guns and bullets and combat as a whole. And while I'm mentioning combat, Enemy types vary incredibly in borderlands 2. Marauders to massive insects to invisible stalkers to powerful robots, fill the world to the brim just to mention a few, of course I'm forgetting to mention the threshers, rakks, skags, and the Hyperion cooperation's goons. Now I should mention Handsome Jack. Handsome Jack takes the cake for my favorite villain in video game history. Witty insults, convoluted schemes, and just plain awesomeness make This bad guy, king of bad guys in my mind.

Dark souls is gaming nirvana. The game is exactly what i would want from my perfect game. Not only the great combat, flowing level design, challenging but fair difficulty, and totally immersive environments, but the cultural impact this game has had on society is staggering. Giant dad, praise the sun and git gud all spawned from this game. This is a game that comes along once in a decade. The magical feeling you get from playing this game for the first time, overcoming your first hard boss and the rush of adrenaline that comes afterwards, and finally piecing together that one part of the of lore you never quite understood, all come together to form this wonderful masterpiece of gaming and a definite milestone for anyone who wishing to be considered a hard-core gamer.

They just copy and pasted borderlands 2 on the moon, gave everyone a ridiculously thick Australian accent, added an O2 meter which adds virtually nothing, never told you what to do in the quests which left me running around, in an area they told me to go, not knowing what i was supposed to do when i got there, and just making the game all around very short in comparison to it's predecessor. Borderlands 2 is easily my favorite game of all time, but this is a slap in the face to any real fans of the series. They should have never made this, and focused all their attention on making borderlands 3. The only reason this game gets a 5 is because it does still has the same formula that made borderland 2 great. If they had even just changed the HUD i would have given a higher score, but they couldn't even do that. I've spent 2 years playing borderlands 2 and loved every second of the 1000+ hours i spent leveling up every character to 60 and even getting krieg and axton to 72. As far as character development, this did a great job telling the story of Handsome Jack, but if that's all gearbox and 2K were trying to do, then they should have priced it at $30 and called it a dlc, not make us pay full price for a terrible version of borderlands 2

Bloodborne is an incredible re-imagining of the souls series. So long are the days of tanking behind a massive shield and and poking the enemy with your weapon. The new combat style revitalizes the genre and makes players take the play-style they came to know and master, and throw it out the window for a newer sleeker design. At first glance this could make a few gamers mad, but this isn't dark souls and no one ever said it was. The art design and landscape of this game are marvels on their own and only give the game that much more individuality from the souls series. The Victorian era theme mixed with the dystopian setting blend together for an environment that we haven't seen before in a souls game. To partner with this Victorian theme, the garb worn by the hunters of Yarnham works perfectly with the speed and swiftness of the combat. If you were one to hide behind a shield like Havel's great-shield or Artorias' great-shield like i did in past games, then you're in for it when you first turn this game on. The sheer veracity of the enemy NPC's and the unforgiving nature of any souls game mixed with a lack of shield options and heavy armor means that tanking is not an option, so you better learn to adapt quick, or the world of Yarnham may just swallow you whole. Although Bloodborne does not have near as many weapon options as its predecessors, all the weapons feel unique in there own way and have a new feature introduced that none of its seniors have, which is weapon transformation. Weapon transformation makes that one handed axe into a much larger two handed great-axe, at the cost of your ability to parry with your side arm. This risk vs. reward combat style is a fresh new re-imagining to the souls series that knocks the ball out of the park. All in all, I have platinumed this game and have beaten it 7 times, as i have all the previous souls games, and i can say without a doubt that bloodborne is just as good, if not better, than any of the games that have come before it, except dark souls of course, nothing will ever beat that. =)

for me warframe is unlike anything I have ever played before. for a lot of people, this game may seem daunting. Not very much explanation for how most of the game works, grinding for materials if you don't for buy micro-transactions, and way too much stuff to know where to begin. For most people those things are a turn-off, but for me personally, that's what makes me love the game. I love games that make grinding the cornerstone of their game (destiny, Pokemon, etc.) so this game feels right at home with me, not to mention the interesting flow and combat in the game make it all the more interesting to grind. Other things like the little explanation for how the game works and the vast amounts of things to do may seem over-encumbering to most, but to me, i feel like it gives me an open canvas to paint, to make my adventure feel as unique as i wish to make it. Fast combat, a wide variety of guns and characters to grind for, and an open canvas give me all the reason to love this game. the only reason i gave it a 9 and not a 10, is that all items that you grind towards to make, are timegated forcing you to wait 12-24 hours to complete

Fallout 4 is a confusing game to play as a huge fallout fan. I wanted to appreciate the game for it's colorful world and far less clunky combat than previous games, but for some reason i found myself questioning if I even thought i was playing a fallout game. I would be wondering through the wasteland and then I'd look to the Boston skyline and see some strange looking city with bright blue and red buildings looking back at me. Now I'm not from Boston, but I have seen pictures of Boston, and what it looks like in fallout isn't a very good comparison of what it looks like in the present day. Thats not to say that I don't like to explore the remains of downtown Boston, I just don't feel like I'm exploring Boston. The gun-play is fantastic and by far the best in any fallout game although, yea

Rocket league is the most addicting game I've ever played before. The game play is fluid, fun, and fast. This game is by far the best sporting game on console at the moment, which really isn't saying much, but regardless, its great nonetheless. The only issue I've come across is skill-based matchmaking which at early levels makes the game fun to learn how t play, but the longer you play and the better you get, The better your competition gets. This would be good, but that means that regular games become try-hard sweat fests and the game has to search a larger area of the world to match players to your skill which means that you do have to deal with bad connections as you are playing players from across the world. Other than that, this game is seemingly perfect.
