First off, I don't normally play or enjoy souls games. However, this one got my attention and I figured I'll give it a try. First the positives: Great character customization (although limited costumes) Fun game mechanics (there are buffs, debuffs, and strategy instead of button mashing) Deep ability customization and flexibility (many classes that can be switched at will and fitted with abilities from other classes) Wide weapon variety although only one ranged option plus magic Beatuful level design past the first dungeon Intriguing npc character cast Difficulty level is very manageable once you get an npc partner Now the bad: The worst offender is the story. It is delivered either through flashbacks that make little sense or through emo dialogues that make little sense as well. Halfway through the game I was still not sure what the big hook was. Cheap bosses that will one shot you easily. (Dodging is key). Luckily you can call other players for help. Halfway through the gameplay becomes very repetitive since you find the best class/ability combo and stick with it. Overall it's a fun romp if you get it on sale. Good intro into dark souls like games imo.

Unlikeable characters: an old woman with rage issues, an idiot teenager, and a socially awkward scientist. Only interesting character is the killbot. Unfunny humour. Lots of toilet humor, unoriginal jokes. Weak plot. It's barely cohesive, characters acting like idiots for the sake of absurdity and cheap laughs. Play original Tales. They are truly funny.

Exercise in repetition and monotony. Story: barely there. Pick a region - participate in a mini-arc, move to the next. No sense of accomplishment whatsoever. Gameplay: downgrade from Odyssey. The ship is usually stuck inside a river and might as well be on rails. Combat is only somewhat challenging until you unlock powers then it quickly becomes repetitive and dull since you can just spam power over and over. There's the base building meta and raids but they are just tedious. Gear is scarce and expensive to upgrade so you will pick one and stick with it for the rest of the game. Graphics and setting: This is no Unity. The towns quickly blend together as they all look the same. The graphics are nice but the color palette is so dull that it really makes no difference. Character: Malaka! Might as well be a genderless blob. No memorable character to speak of. Goes along with any violence and throws a fit when someone disagrees with them. Verdict: buy on deep sale or better yet play Odyssey again.

Played it on decent PC with RT and ultra presets. Game looks good and the story is serviceable. The mechanics and rpg aspects allow for numerous approaches to mission objectives Cons: the you know who is completely unlikable and even by the end I couldn't find any compassion for this character. Female V romance is severely shortchanged compared to m-V. Sure mods can fix this but still the fem-V ending didn't feel nearly as good. Customization is not great - no glamour options, no option to change hair/makeup etc. My V looked like a hobo by endgame. Again, mods. Oh and there's really only one good ending and the game gives 0 hints for it. I don't see much replay value either, in the end I'd have to do all the same quests again. Oh and there's are still multiple glitches so save often. I got it on sale but I'd be upset if paid full price.

Good job Spiders team. The game takes Technomancer mechanics, improves them and drops them in fantasy setting. Gone are the 3 styles of combat now you can be a master of all. The story is somewhat shaped by player choice and relies on skill checks for dialogues. Overall, a good rpg which is very enjoyable but suffers from production issues.

After trying Black Desert (forced pvp after lvl 50), ESO (not newcomer friendly), FF14 (a terrible PC port, didnt play long enough to speak of the game), I finally stumbled upon Tera and I'm really glad I did. First of all, the game is truly f2p at least until lvl cap of 65. If you choose to, you can play it as single player or you can team up for dungeons which will level you up a lot faster. Graphics are good but not mind blowing. But the real draw is the combat. It's fun, fluid and addictive. Also, a big plus for me is the lack of grind and rng (at least until level cap). Microtransactions are mostly cosmetic with a few non-cosmetic ones being optional (character slots, inventory expansion, etc). Overall, it's a solid game that I can see myself coming back to to relax and have fun.

TL:DR version: RNG quickly kills the fun As a newcomer to the series, I was a bit hesitant about getting this title, since I've heard that there's a lot of grind and you just hunt the same monster all the time. I don't mind the grind it it's reasonable, so I figured I'll give it a try. Now, after 30hrs, I'm just burned out and going to other games. Pros: Beautiful environments, great character creator and interesting looking armor. Monsters that are very well animated and interact with each other (first time you see little lizards attack a big t-rex that is near death is like a scene from Jurassic Park). A somewhat entertaining story that held my interest until certain point. A huge weapon variety which accommodates any play style. A satisfying and addictive progression in the early game: kill a monster, unlock and build better weapons and armor, kill a stronger monster. Cons: melee combat is clunky and is like trying to hit a fly with a giant hammer. I switched to ranged which at least has an indicator to tell you if you are hitting the monster from proper distance or not. the progression tree is mostly hidden, and the game gives you no indication what materials you need to progress and where to find them. I had to resort to unofficial guides A LOT. And finally, grind, grind, grind + RNG with terrible drop rates means you will waste a loooot of time. This is aggravated by the fact that after a certain point in the story the game basically resets the progression which makes you suddenly feel like you achieved nothing. Yes, for some inexplicable reason the monsters that were a piece of cake suddenly get a boost in power, so the basic giant lizard can KO you in one hit in the armor that you spent so much time to obtain. Worse, the game unlock a new better armor which is just a reskin of the armor you already have. After fighting the same exact high rank t-rex 5 times (30min battle each) I still don''t have enough pieces to build his armor due to bad RNG. Multiplayer: nonexistent. You are mostly alone, unless you invite friends. If a fight gets hard, you can fire a SOS flare, which lets other players to join your session but also makes the monster harder. However, players who join are usually such high level that the monster is dead within 5 minutes. It's basically an "instawin" button. Overall, I enjoyed my time with the game, but now it got to the point where the game is barely giving me anything while demanding a lot of time in return. I may come back to finish the story, but I hope MHW2 does a better job and less grind.

Pros: Fun combat mechanics, moderately entertaining Nemesis system, beautiful environments and a diverse skill / inventory system. Cons: Nonsensical story, highly repetitive gameplay and bland characters. It's a decent game, but the grind at the end of the game is so annoying that I gave up and just watched the ending on youtube. If it had a cohesive story to support the grind, that would probably be more tolerable, but as it is, it's just unbearable. Here's an honest opinion from someone who's not a fanboy of ps4 or japanese devs: Nier is a very nice 3rd person open world action rpg. It has beautiful environments, engaging stroy for the 1st part of the game (more on that later), fantastic atmosphere and one of the most beautiful soundtracks I have ever heard in a video game. However, the story is not complete until you reach part 3 of the game, and to get to part 3 you have to play part 1 all over again with tiny variations (call it part 2). It's such a chore that by the end of part 2 I was completely burned out on the game. Still, I got to part 3, and after an interesting story-filled section what does the game ask you to do? Go to 3 different places and collect keys. That's right, fetch quests in the middle of the action. That completely kills any momentum the game has going. Given how atrocious the save system is in this game (you can easily lose up to an hour of progress) and cheap deaths from some of the enemies, I feel like the game simply does not appreciate the time of the person playing. So, I give it a solid 7. It's a good game with some major flaws, but it's artificially stretched and level-gated. Part 1 is a lot of fun, but if you value your time, just stop there and watch the rest on youtube.

I really liked the New Colossus, so I was looking forward to playing this, especially after all the great reviews it got. However, after completing the first couple of acts, I just can't bring myself to keep playing. The gameplay is very repetitive - here the commander, kill him then kill all who's left. Very few variations. The story is kind of dull with low stakes and little humor, takes itself way too seriously. I enjoyed the DLC (episode 0) more than the main game. Glad I got it on sale.

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series

This review is coming from someone who has never seen GoT the TV show or read the books. After playing the hilarious Tales from borderlands, solving the mystery in Wolf among us and crying my eyes out in Walking Dead season 1, I was desperate for more Telltale goodness, so I picked up GoT. Unfortunately, after playing through the season, I was not impressed. First, let's get something out of the way: if you played a telltale game then you already know the formula: it's not a game, it's an interactive movie. You can shape the conversation as you see fit, and you have some QTE when the actions starts, but in the end it's obvious that due to the development time and limited resources, the game cannot afford to branch the story too much until the last episode of the season. The story being somewhat set in stone is fine by me as long as the game maintains the illusion of choice through minor branches: steal a valuable item but be forced to give it back later in 5min, or leave it and be praised for your honesty. Or make a major decision which will not pay off until the very end of the season. GoT, however, fails in that it presents you with seemingly meaningful choices, but then completely forgets about them, which makes you think that this will pay off much later, until the final credits roll and you realize that there was no payoff at all. And that is quite upsetting, because it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. That would still be ok if the story was any good. Alas, the story is not that interesting, and given the death rate of characters, the PC keeps changing, which doesn't help things at all. Overall, still, I found it moderately enjoyable. There are some likable characters, and I played through just to see how it ends (spoiler: it ends on a cliffhanger). Very disappointing. TL unless you are a big GoT fan or desperate for a telltale game like me, steer clear of this mess.

TL Cute, fun, but lacking modes and new characters are locked behind grind for RNG With all the recent hype around battleborn and overwatch, I wanted something similar but cheap. So I got a month of EA access and downloaded PvZ: GF. After playing for about an hour, I was completely hooked. Pros: It's a very cute game, and even if you lose the match, the points awarded are nearly the same, so there's little reason to get upset. The characters are varied and play differently, and once you unlock all of the abilities, it becomes hero-based arena combat just like Overwatch or TF2. I found the characters to be very well balanced, and with some amount of luck even a healer (flower) can end up racking some vanquishes as well as providing healer support. There are two major modes, vanquish (team deathmatch) and "capture the base" mode, which can be played with character customization on or off. Cons: So there are two major issues I have with the game and reason why I'm not giving it a 10. First, the "capture the base" mode is highly unbalanced. The attacking team (zombies) have a ton of advantages - they have help of NPCs, the capture progress does not reset, and there's a generous amount of time to capture each point. It would make a lot more sense if the capture progress would swing back if the plants repel the attacker wave. As is, if you are on the attacking team, it's usually a steam roll forward, if you are on the defending team, it's usually constant fall back. Not fun. So really, the only good mode is team vanquish. And here lies another issue. If you play classic mode (no customization), it's all good but get repetitive quite fast. But once you decide to go into non-classic mode, you end playing against a bunch of different fully upgraded character variants, like some that shoot fire, some shoot ice, plasma, etc. Pretty cool. Even if you only have the basic character, it's not big of a deal, since most characters are still well balanced, but it makes you wonder - how do I unlock all these cool character variants? The answer is, sadly, grind, grind, grind. To unlock a single character, you need 40k of in-game currency. One match of team vanquish gives 2-4k. So you need to play at least 10-20 matches to unlock a single random character variant, which may not even be for the character you like to play. Not fun. So, in the end, it's a fun and cute game to drop in a play for a bit, but sadly it only has one good mode, and the character variants are locked behind the grind. Still worth picking up, but I wouldn't pay much for it.

B&W expansion is more of good old Witcher 3 core gameplay, but story doesn't quite live up to HoS. If you like Gwent, Witcher horse racing controls, fist fighting and chasing Armor schematics, then B&W has a lot to offer. If, however, you don't care about any of the things above (blasphemy for some, I'm sure), and instead want to enjoy a good story while fighting new monsters and doing side quests with non-obvious outcomes, then B&W still has a lot to offer, but to a lesser extent. The expansion is set in the new land of Toussaint, which looks beautiful and features new enemy types and characters, along with a new main story. Alas, the story is not nearly as personal as the one told in HoS. The new characters, while compelling and well portrayed, are just not very deep (imo). There's a lot of chasing and detective work, similar to main Novigrad quest of W3, which eventually culminates in a boss fight (although there's an option to travel to a very fun special level for a bit which a very welcome change of pace). Overall, the main quest is kind of similar to Carnal Sins quest from W3 Novigrad, albeit with more of a twist. There are many sidequests in B&W, but only a few of them are more than just glorified treasure hunts or monster contracts. Still fun, but not quite as good as, say, Towerful of Mice side quest or Last Wish. Overall, it's a good nostalgia trip and a lot of content for the money, just don't expect the same kind of focus and story level as HoS.

Note: this review is for SP portion of the game ONLY. TL Uncharted 4 is a very beautiful and engaging game with great characters which unfortunately suffers from lack of customization and platforming gets repetitive by the end Story and characters 9/10: All our favorite characters are back: Elena, Sully, Nathan. And of course, the plot revolves around a treasure and a villain who wants it for himself. But it's not the plot which makes the story good (let's face it, the plot is OK), but rather the interactions between the characters and the emotional moments they experience. Except for one or two scenes, the story is mostly your typical National Treasure plot: "and this will lead to another clue, and this will lead to another clue" Music, graphics and animations 9/10: Both are very much on the level. In one scene, the background noises subtly disappear and only the music is left, creating a very surreal feeling. The graphics are par for the course: everything looks wonderful. Now, animations is there the game occasionally stumbles: while the hair movement is very natural, and moving through high grass and taking out enemies feels almost too real, the climbing animations are absolutely unrealistic, with Nathan basically clipping to where he needs to be despite clearly not having enough reach or momentum. To me, that killed the platforming so much that by the end I just wanted no more platforming at all. Alas, the game creators thought otherwise, and the game is VERY platforming heavy, with occasional bursts of enemies to have fun with. Gameplay and replay value 8/10: so, as I mentioned before, I did not like platforming at all, despite how beautiful the views are. The combat, on the other hand, is great. Each area can be approached with stealth or guns blazing, and detection meters help understand when there's a risk of being spotted. I have managed to clear quite a few areas without breaking stealth. Sometimes there's no other option other than start shooting, and the game is fun here as well: the guns have weight to them, whether you are using a pistol or a grenade launcher. So yes, very fun. However, since there's no customization options, once I went through an areas with stealth and guns, that's it. The game realizes that - the menu after end game even gives you direct access to all the combat encounters directly, so you can skip all the walking and climbing. Multiplayer: I don't play MP and I don't care, sorry. Overall, it's definitely a must play, but in the long term YMMV.

TL Worth playing once, and that's about it. First of all, let me say - I loved TR(2013). It was a great origin story, with an exciting mystery to uncover, good action and variety of environments. It was truly amazing to see Lara go from a naive girl to hardened adventurer. ROTR has none of those things. Sure, the graphics have improved, and the open areas are bigger. But the environments in the game are really boring, the story is lackluster, and the tomb challenges are incredibly simple. There's no 'rise' of anything in this game - it's the same Lara we saw at the end of TR, and now that she doesn't have to fight for survival (she's armed to the teeth and the enemies are actually scared of her), she's kind of... dull. She has none of Nathan Drake charisma, even Jolie's portrayal of Lara Croft was more engaging. She's not a 'powerful' woman, not a 'survivor', she's just some 20-30s woman who's really good at jumping and massacring tons of soldiers. Still, the mechanics which made TR(2013) a success are there - the platforming is fun, combat is good and stealth is fun. However, having finished the game there's 0 reason to go back unless you are a completionist. I'm gonna trade it in tomorrow and preorder Uncharted 4.
