LEGO Harry Potter Collection7

Years 1-4 are amazing. Years 5-7 have visual lag that's really annoying. Would give a 10 if all 7 years played smooth. The cinematic scenes are cute and while there isn't any talking they get the message across. You definitely know what's going on. The level designs are clever and fun. They definitely keep you engaged and entertained. These games are also surprisingly true to the books. While I like the movies I think I liked playing these games more than watching the movies. There is also a lot of game play. I was surprised at how many hours I put into this.

Diablo III: Eternal Collection10
Nov 18, 2019
Portable Diablo was a great idea. Diablo III itself is amazing and on the Switch it is even more so. The ability to seamlessly play between online mode and local play is great. Allows you to play with people who don't pay for Nintendo's online service (locally). Also it's great if you travel a lot like I do. Can still play even if you're going from terminal to plane to terminal and so on. If you're not familiar with the Diablo franchise this is an action adventure style RPG where you fight Diablo and the minions of hell. The campaign is great especially the first couple times I played through it (it's even better if you have friends/family to play with). Adventure mode is very addicting. I have a good number of characters with full sets/builds and have somewhere around 600 hours put into the game. I do notice an odd glitch now and again. They're rare but they're there. Like I had a greater rift guardian that spawned but wasn't on the map so I had no choice but to quit out. Also I have experienced a few times where enemy projectile animations don't show. All-in-all the number of times I have experienced bugs is less than 20. For how many hours I have put in that's minor but it's there.

If you like this style of game you will love this one in particular. It's like God of War in that it can be kind of button-mashy but it really isn't. The only way you can get through this game and button mash is if you turn the difficulty down; all the way down. To do well in this game in a normal difficulty you do have to think about your combos and the battle. Excellently done. There is a natural progression to this game where things get more difficult and they add variety. There's even some fun mini-game type moments that add to the charm. Some people have criticized her outfits and how revealing they are and normally I would agree with them (felt this way in Final Fantasy X-2 among other games) but I don't here. In witch lore their power comes through sexual means so for this character to be presented in this way makes sense.

Final Fantasy VII10
Nov 18, 2019
Final Fantasy 7 is a masterpiece. Story is engaging. Character development is engaging. Materia system is excellent (best system of any Final Fantasy game IMO). Music is amazing and spot on for the mood of the story throughout. Battles are fun and there's multiple ways to customize characters/parties. There are lots of great subquests that help make the game. Chocobo racing and breeding is amazing. Replay value is high; I have played FF7 6 times now (I think). With regards to the port to the Switch they did a great job. I notice no issues and the ability to fast forward makes this game even better. I love being able to fast forward through the summons when I want to (a really nice option and addition).

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe10
Nov 18, 2019
This is the best Mario Kart game to-date IMO and the "Must Play" tag is spot on. My feelings towards the Mario Kart franchise are similar to those of the platforming Mario franchise. How does Nintendo keep producing such high quality games over and over?

Spyro Reignited Trilogy10
Nov 18, 2019
The Spyro trilogy were some of my favorite games as a child. Spyro is a fun and engaging protagonist. The level designs are excellent and engaging throughout. A very fun 3D platformer. I'm enjoying this as much today as I remember doing so back then. With regards to it's port to the Switch. There is a seriously large download required that made me think twice about buying (I still bought it and am glad I did). Not all of the games are contained on the cartridge. Frankly, I would have paid extra for one or two more cartridges and the option would have been nice.

Splatoon 210
Nov 18, 2019
This is one of my favorite games. Excellent. The concept is so simple but the game-play is so addicting. There are a limited number of songs but they're so good and the game play is so good that you somehow don't get tired of the same songs. I find myself saying, "just one more match" over and over again only to realize I have played this game into the wee hours of the morning. Very good and surprised me. This is one of those, "don't judge a book by it's cover" games. I almost wrote this one off without trying it and I'm so glad I didn't.

Super Mario Party8
Nov 18, 2019
It's Mario Party and IMO it's the best in the franchise. Personally, I hem and haw over how high to rate this game. We're in the 21st century and Mario Party doesn't have the full feature set available online? I get why they might not do it. Mario Party matches tend to last 1 hour or longer so if someone quits out it can ruin the rest of the game or end it but at the same time you could just replace a quitter with a computer. You add computers playing locally anyway. For the local play I give the game a 10 but the fact that it misses what is, for me, a long awaited feature in the series I rank it a 8. Truly disappointing that there isn't full play online.

DOOM 3 BFG Edition10
Nov 18, 2019
This game is amazing. It makes me sad that I missed playing it on it's original release. It's the one Doom game I never got to play and as it turns out it's my favorite. It feels true to the franchise but it also doesn't feel like all of the other Doom games. The other games are faster paced run and gun kind of games and this one feels more like a horror/thriller game. It reminds me of if the Doom and Dead Space franchises melded (but only the good Dead Space games).

DOOM (1993)10
Nov 18, 2019
I don't understand how the user score is so low. I enjoyed playing Doom on Switch as much as I enjoyed playing it originally. Essentially you get Doom with all expansions and it's portable. Having to be connected to the internet is definitely not necessary and if you're not connected having to decline twice is mildly annoying but it happens so infrequently that it didn't detract from my overall experience.

DOOM10
Nov 18, 2019
This game is true to the Doom franchise. Somehow killing Demons in space is just always exciting. Oh and it's portable; bonus! The game play is fast paced most of the time. Battles are engaging and challenging. The music is excellent and is there when it should be and isn't there when it shouldn't be. Weapon progression feels right.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate10
Nov 17, 2019
It's Smash Brothers and it's the best one of the franchise. I agree that it is a "must-play." There are plenty of characters to choose from and for a Smash game it feels the most balanced yet. Lots of great levels to choose from. Adventure mode is fun. Online has it's quirks but it's very fun. So nice to be able to play with friends online.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze10
Nov 17, 2019
Donkey Kong Country was one of my favorite games growing up and Freeze does not disappoint. For a 2D platformer in today's day and age it's excellent. The levels designs are creative and true to the franchise. The characters are fun and add to the play-ability. The music is great. The boss fights are engaging. Do recommend.

Super Mario Odyssey10
Nov 17, 2019
This game is a masterpiece. I don't know how Nintendo keeps producing Mario games that are this good. I never wanted to put this game down. All of the worlds are unique and present their challenges. Cappy is a fun side-kick that adds to Mario's abilities and opens new possibilities into the game-play. The enemies are engaging. Every aspect of this game is excellent. The controls are polished, the graphics are pleasant, the music is good, the music matches the mood, there's an array of challenges, it's engaging throughout, etc.

Nov 17, 2019

Kirby Star Allies4
Nov 17, 2019
This game had a lot of potential but somehow misses the mark. I can summarize the experience pretty quickly. Move around an over-world map to select levels, enter the levels to gain co-operative players, things move around fast, level ends, and repeat. The feeling of this game as I played it was, "What's the point?" It didn't feel engaging and didn't draw me in to keep playing it.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild10
Nov 17, 2019
This game, to me, is a masterpiece. In many ways it feels like the other Zelda games but there are new elements incorporated. This is one of those games that I had trouble putting down and when I beat it I wished there was more, in a good way. The main dungeons are fewer in number but very engaging and present challenge. There are a lot of mini-dungeons (called shrines) and finding them gets a little tedious after 80-ish but once inside the shrines they are not tedious at all. The shrines are surprisingly unique and engaging for how many of them there are. There is a lot of exploration in this game; it feels like elder-scrolls in this aspect, IMO. This game has breakable weapons and even the master sword requires recharging but I didn't find this frustrating. I always seemed to have enough weapons that did good damage as there are a lot of them to find. I don't see the point of it but I don't think it detracts from the game. Not as much music as I expected but it fits well with the mood of the game. I can't find a true con with this game. It's excellent.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy9
Nov 17, 2019
Crash Bandicoot is an amazing trilogy and while growing up these were among my favorite games. Crash while silent is an engaging protagonist and there's lots of subtle humor throughout. The platforming is very polished minus a few moments in the second game (where there are some depth perception issues that aren't present elsewhere). These 3 games are more than worth the price.

Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee!8
Nov 17, 2019
This game isn't perfect but is really good. It's essentially a modern console remake of red/blue/yellow with the battle system of Pokemon Go for wild encounters. Instead of battling them to low health and throwing poke-balls at them you just throw poke-balls at them based on timing. If it weren't for not being able to battle wild pokemon I would rate a 10. Whether you're new to pokemon or like me and have been playing since gen 1. This is a solid pick-up.

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster8
Nov 17, 2019
If this was solely FFX I would have given a 10 for the review but it's boxed with FFX-2 which, IMO, is not a good game. If I could give a rating for FFX-2 exclusively I would give a 0. As far as a port to the switch is concerned the game plays flawlessly. I noticed no issues. FFX as a game is a masterpiece. I love that there is a plethora of characters to choose from, that switching them out is seamless in battle, and that doing so adds some variety and provokes thought in a non-traditional for a Final Fantasy game kind of way. The music is great and fits the mood of what's going on in the story. The story is a bit linear but very enjoyable. Leveling up system was creative and while it makes it harder to do different things with the characters it also follows with a RPG logically. So-and-so is a mage, got it. BTW Blitzball is addicting; I spent far too much time playing that mini-game. FFX-2... Coming off finishing FFX this game is starkly different and doesn't make sense. It catches you off guard and makes you wonder if it's a joke. The theme of FFX is pretty dark and this is bubbly. Considering what happened at the end of FFX I would not expect such a happy mood. I wondered if the beginning was the team being undercover to get a mission done and I wondered if the game will change after the opening but it doesn't. Other ****-2 only has 3 playable characters which after having many characters feels disappointing. Also the battle system is lacking. I literally hold down the confirm button through battles except for when I need to heal; there's no thought involved in combat. I don't like the music, especially considering it feels out of place with the mood of the FFX/FFX-2 story. There kind of is but there really isn't a story in this game either; you're playing missions essentially. TLDR: FFX is a masterpiece and the price is worth FFX alone but don't bother with FFX-2.
