Super Mario Party goes back to its roots and delivers just like it should. The vast number of different modes, really prevents any to shine the brightest, but the entire game is a small step back that greatly leaps forward. It makes us only more excited for the next entry. Something we haven't felt with the Mario Party series in ages...

Both players and critics agreed that in the last couple of years Mario Party’s quality has been dropping. Nintendo decided to go for broke this time and I hope slapping “Super” in front of the title heralds the restart of the franchise, because SMP finally delivers what we expected. [12/2018, p.51]

Complex and unpredictable board game, numerous mini-games and being able to play as your favorite character – those are the three pillars of Mario Party’s success. Neither of these elements was polished to perfection over the years, but together they offer a very enjoyable experience. [Issue#234, p.72]

Mario Party has always been a beloved series to me, and seeing this game in 2018 got me really excited, even though it was nothing but disappointing. Let's break it down. The best part by far are the minigames. They almost always ues the Joy Con's new features kinda like MP8 did on the Wii. Other than that though, this game is quite bad. The economy is pretty much revolved around buying Golden Pipes and the stars being cheaper than ever doesn't help that. The side modes are really generic and with very little replayabilty. I wanted to give it an even lower rating because it is just that bad, but at the end of the day it's still Mario Party. You will have fun playing this game with your friends, even considering all the complaints I said earlier. Overall, especially because there are 2 way better entries in the series on the Switch, I wouldn't recommend buying this game.

The only con here about this game isthe ability to play with only the joycons. Also the online mode kinda ****, one of the worst i've ever experencied.

Super Mario Party is a perfect collection of fun and addictive mini-games.

This is a Mario Party that more than deserves that ‘Super’ prefix that’s been coming for so long, and that’s rather amazing.

Great game. Finally back to form. The ally mechanic from star rush has been implemented perfectly. Remember to play Partner Party for the full experience.

Honestly not a bad game, I don't really get why so many people are hating the game. And I really like the Sizzling Stakes minigame

Super Mario Party is, without doubt, the best entry in the series since the days of the GameCube. It’s stellar presentation, kooky sense of humour and fantastic mini-games make it for an exceptionally fun party game. Also in the game’s favour is that there is variation in the game mode’s hitherto unseen in a Mario Party. The game is plagued by a lacking amount of boards and a sometimes painfully slow pace but on the whole, there’s a fantastic multiplayer experience in there.

So, here’s the plan: invite your friends over, order some take out, crack open a cold one and have fun! Super Mario Party offers a wide variety of (generally) fun minigames, more than enough game modes and a couple of interesting ideas on how to use both the Joy-Cons and Switch’s features. It’s a great party game that will entertain the seasoned gamer and the newcomer as well.

Super Mario Party seems to be the right step back for the series. The focus is on the competition again, meaning the party is a lot more fun. The game is more accessible and yet offers more tactical gameplay. Too bad there aren't many boards to enjoy.

So that’s why we went back to 1-2-Switch. Super Mario Party has far more mini-games – and ones of higher quality, too – but it’s too time-consuming and tedious to get into them.

It still suffers from the same problems that have plagued the series for years, and the online mode is disappointing, to put it mildly.

The game is so much fun to play with friends, it has a lot of cool modes like the music one which is my favourite. The character roaster is nothing special, and the soundtrack is okay. I enjoyed more the previous chapter but it's still a good game.

Boring. Waste of ca. 1 hour watching other ones, for basic moves on the play board. 70% of the game is competely random, no control over winning/losing.
What a waste of money...

Good enough game with good ideas, but it's outshined by prior Mario Parties. The boards are dull. There are other Mario Party games on the Switch that are better. Unique dice and game modes alongside a great cast of characters do not save the gameplay.
SummaryThe party comes to Nintendo Switch in this complete refresh of the Mario Party series. The Mario Party series is coming to the Nintendo Switch system with super-charged fun for everyone. The original board game style has been kicked up a notch with deeper strategic elements, like specifc Dice Blocks for each character. The game also intr... Read More
