I didn't like how the source material was treated in this adaptation at all, though I am very curious about how Ruben Östlund would have dramatized this story.

The Mother0

This is the cheesiest film I've seen this year. No logic to the storyline whatsoever! Also, the little girl outperformed the whole cast involved.

Run Rabbit Run6
Jun 28, 2023
Even though the script and pacing of this film could have hugely benefited from much more work, Snook's performance and the brilliant score and cinematography of Run Rabbit Run make it worth your while.

The Many Saints of Newark6

Not much of a prequel, but seeing Michael Gandolfini in each scene broke my heart due to the uncanny resemblance to his late father.

The Skeleton Twins7

Touching movie altogether; however, I would have voted for an alternate ending.

Beau Is Afraid8
Jun 17, 2023
This is what my nightmares are made of. Ari Aster should definitely consider making a movie based on my dreams. I've no doubt it would be his highest-grossing film yet. PS: I really admired the fact that despite its surreal and seemingly devoid of logic context, Beau Is Afraid is in fact heavily backed by psychoanalytic notions.

The Menu2
Jan 6, 2023
And the Woke Movie of the Year Award goes to ...
"The Menu" is a second-rate rendition of films such as "The Triangle of Sadness" addressing class conflicts and inequity. Second-rate doesn't quite cut it, though. One could say "lowest-rate" to do it some justice. Apart from the unoriginal plot and its bland tone, the stars of "The Menu" seem not to have given a damn about the upshot either, except Hong Chau who totally understood the assignment in this mess of a cast and crew.

Men & Chicken10

Anders Thomas Jensen is officially my new favorite director. With "Men & Chicken" being only the third title of his that I have watched so far, it is safe to say that no other filmmaker has quite enthralled me with their earnestly comedic take on life.
Can't wait to go over all of his filmography featuring the usual collaborators that include the brilliant Mads Mikkelsen.
PS: Danes have the best sense of humor. Change my mind!

Do Revenge2

The ultimate teen movie with too many plot twists that make no sense whatsoever, splashed with color and pretty?!?! costumes.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery1

Proof that star-studded box office hits should be avoided at all costs. Now you're the one pushing it, Rian!

Violent Night4
Dec 30, 2022
A good title to pick out when your obstinate 5-year-old nephew would not go to bed already to give the old gang the chance to watch some solid flick, probably leaving the kid traumatized for life, but who gives a **** right?

Revolutionary Road10
Dec 8, 2022
Revisiting titles that I watched back in my adolescence helps me get a better grasp of the full extent to which I have altered and matured in terms of insight and intellect. I found Revolutionary Road quite well-acted and masterfully directed back in 2009, but this time around, as a thirty-year-old woman with adequate experience when it comes to relationships, disillusionment, and identity crisis, I totally got to empathize with each character, their flaws, their **** dreams, and the overall toll it takes on any individual to be put in such a position.

She Said1
Dec 7, 2022
The most unnecessary film of the year!
I guess pretty much everyone already knew the details of this case and its dramatization added zilch to the whole story. On another note, the overuse of music besides the annoyingly monotonous and predictable flow of the script made the experience of watching this film all the more unpleasant.

Minus the stunning cinematography as well as the score, the movie does not have much to offer, either script-wise or performative.

This storyline might have worked as a short, but a feature-length film needs more substance than this.

Don't Worry Darling0
Oct 26, 2022
I can't believe it, but Olivia Wilde has really outdone herself this time, in **** big-time, that is. I thought Booksmart was a wannabe deep and at the same time cool piece of overrated garbage, however, I was dead wrong, it seems. Don't Worry Darling is so flawed and decadent a movie?!?! that even Florence Pugh and Chris Pine could not salvage its wreck. The storyline owns no notes of creativity and repeats the same cliche of toxic dynamics in relationships; moreover, the in-your-face lack of chemistry between the so-called leads made me wince at times. Also, the overuse of jazzy tunes to reflect the era in question kinda threw me off the whole scent. Plot holes, awful casting, self-aggrandizing, and promo dramas set aside, the costume design was pretty neat.

Stars at Noon5

I get that Claire Denis may have meant well, socio-politically speaking, to have adapted this story, but I'm afraid her adaptation totally falls short of doing justice to the actual text. In my opinion, the author's intention was to portray a revolution taking place via the narrative of an affair between two characters (even unnamed, as they were that insignificant to the whole point of the book) While Denis's version recounts a tryst, with a revolution taking place in the farthest background. Despite Margaret Qualley's strong performance, the magnificent score written by Denis' long-time collaborator Tindersticks, as well as the somewhat documentary-style cinematography, the film failed at convincing me as an audience to care about either the characters or the nation acting as extras.

First of all, I gotta admit that this was a quite huge upgrade from the previous installment which I did not like one bit. Mia Goth truly gives her best in this edition and I daresay the whole movie relies on her performance as a one-hander. Nevertheless, Ti West's extreme obsession with genre filmmaking prevents me from fully enjoying his pictures.

The Stranger7
Oct 20, 2022
Australian crime dramas have always kept me on edge despite their knack for the implication of violence rather than actually showing it on the big screen. Wright's peculiar style of narration, unraveling the story in a somewhat unconventional style, actually amplifies the impact the story leaves on the audience. As for the score and cinematography, a better job couldn't have been possibly done as the atmospheric style totally suits the storyline. Even though Joel Edgerton delivers an acceptable performance as a character living a dual life, one must admit that it is Sean Harris who carries the whole movie with his nuanced yet powerhouse delivery. One tiny bit of criticism: I am sure they could have come up with a much better and more intriguing title than "The Stranger".
