Accel World vs. Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight

I won't spoil much here, and I'm going to give my views of this game, and as a fan of both shows. If you are fan of either show, then this game is worth checking out. That said, is it worth $60? I say it depends on how big of a fan you are. If you have seen every season and the movie for SAO, then it's worth it. They brought in a major character and outfits from Ordinal Scale. If you are into Accel World, then it's worth checking out since it's the first major adaptation they have done in 5 years. Furthermore, they bring in characters beyond the one season of anime since the books are still being published. In fact, they are characters from the books which aren't even published out West. They truly treat each franchise with respect, and they didn't make it another Kirito focus game where everyone else feels like a side kick. In fact the story provides solid air time for all major characters from each show. One key note, but I'm still playing the game and trying to beat the main story. I've put in a lot of hours to warrant a solid review since I've unlocked most characters and have advance into other parts of the world. I'm going to explain the story a bit, but the only spoilers I'm mentioning is the opening scene and explaining a few characters from Accel World since they are less known. The beginning of the game begins with Kirito, Asuna, and Yui. A warning message comes up indicating emergency server maintenance, and Yui begins to act weird thinking something is wrong. Kirito and Asuna lied about logging out, follow Yui, and this immediately things start go crazy around them. After following Yui they encounter Black Lotus and another major character who is the antagonist, and is nicknamed Persona. In the middle of this Yui gets captured/trapped, and after the introduction and confusion on who is ally and foe Black Lotus and Kirito put down their arms realize they need to work together. Meanwhile the world of Alfheim rapidly changed with the town becoming a cyberpunk theme place, and around the open world there are red and distorted **** and modern buildings populating the landscape. This is when elements of Brain Burst, the main game in Accel World, are merging with Alfheim which is the main game world of SAO. Along the way they begin to search for their friends and answers, and eventually the roster of playable characters expands tremendously. I believe I almost got every playable character but one or two 15 hours into the game, and the current roster sits at around at least a couple dozen so far. Fortunately many characters get a decent amount of air time, and you can switch between any of the playable characters at portals, and some of the characters have their own side missions only available when you play as them. Unlike past SAO games from my experience they just make it mostly about Kirito, and that's it. In fact the story 15 hours in is mostly about the trying to save Yui, and figuring out what is going on with a lot of dialogue for all of the major character which include Kirito, Black Lotus, Asuana, Silver Crow, and even some of the side characters participate often including Sinon, Lisbeth, Cyan Pile, and the Red King to name a few. The story is mostly presented like a visual novel with still shots of the avatars talking to each other, and the voice acting is good. That said, the voices are in Japanese and it's sub. The only major complaint are some cutscenes have the sound is missing when swords/weapons clash. Otherwise, the presentation is good. Next is gameplay, and it's good. It's less stiff from previous games, and thanks to Accel World characters the combat feels fresh since their characters have different abilities and don't use swords. In fact it's more hand to hand combat with them, some have guns, and most can't fly. They rely on high jumps, and engaging in attacks in mid-air with their enemies. It takes a little time getting used to the jumping, but once you do it's fun playing the Accel World characters. Having a mix of characters from both words and their combat styles is fresh, and in my view the best out of the SAO games. Finally the last part is the world itself. It's mostly from Lost Song with a face lift. That is fine and all, but the graphics engine is out of date. It shows, and the only graphical impressive thing is the characters look great. Especially the Accel World avatars who are sci-fi and not fantasy oriented. Sadly though the world is bland, and while it's cool seeing **** and Brain Burst elements throughout the maps, but the world needs a new game engine and makeover. Overall it's a good game, and a must buy for fans of either series. It's not perfect since the camera angles can be wonky, and the graphics are outdated. Yet it's arguably the strongest SAO game, and Accel World is finally getting some deserved attention since it's very underrated in the anime world.

I've put in 30 hours so far, and about halfway through the story. Therefore, the 2nd half may not be as good as the first game in my view; however, to my knowledge the biggest flaw with the 2nd half is it's more on the rails without the open world aspect. That said, the open world is so diverse and fun, then the only issue is you may not be able to explore it much during certain story aspects. Nothing wrong with it, but handcuffs at times is a little annoying, and the only flaw that bothers me. The other flaw is the story/lore for the fact you need to go outside the game to know it all. In fact, the main story is the prince and his 3 friends traveling around during a crisis, and slowly built up your powers. The back story with the kingdom, crystal, and the empire is mostly explain in the movies or elsewhere. Nothing entirely wrong with that, but I wish there was more backstory explained here. Otherwise, the game is great. I really enjoyed the real time action combat, which may turn a few off; however, I think it works well. It's very exciting, and for a JRPG in general, then I don't get annoyed at all with random encounters. I only mention this aspect is at times I get a little annoyed when you have an encounter ever 10 steps in a cave when you are just passing by. The combat and open world is where the vast majority of the game shines. The environment is diverse from desert to mountain forests. If anything it feels like the Western US from the desert to the Pacific Northwest, and you have stops with diners and hotels. My only real complaint with the open world is 90% of the diners are the same. Nothing wrong with the interior by any means, and it's a "chain" of sorts, but they should have more then 3 food options at most diners. Especially when one to two options cost almost 2,000 gild. Considering for a while you may only have 10,000 gild at most for the first 10 hours, then it isn't worth it. Finally there are a lot of side quests. Now many side quests are repetitive in nature by grabbing something, or going on hunts for money and good items like Megaelixers which are very helpful. Normally I would get burned out, but after 30 hours I haven't because of the combat and world. That is what draws me in is the world and combat. It may not work for everyone, but thankfully they made the story accessible in which you don't have to grind for days to finish it. Overall this is a great entry for the Final Fantasy line, and it redeems the series as a new chapter and direction that works. I don't hate 13, or the MMO 14 when it was relaunch, but it has issues and controversy. Now this game won't be perfect, or great in everyone's eyes, but I believe it saved the series.

I'm going to throw this out here, but I rate games on my personal experience. Being day 2 of it's release I'm still playing through the game, but I felt like I could give some insight on it. First of all the Assassins Creed games are solid in my view. Now they aren't anything revolutionary with each release, and there are always issues of repetitive and boredom depending on the person. The pros of this game is Paris is beautiful and well done. On top of that there are more interiors then ever before, and they are beautiful. Since I've been to Palace of Versailles I was impressed how they capture the scale and expansive of the beautiful palace, and the details of the rooms and art work is well done. Then throw in plenty of random houses and other interiors that you can go through makes it very expansive. Then I'm impressed by the amount of NPCs you see on the streets. I think at times it's a little much when you are walking down the street and have dozens of people, but at times in modern day Paris it's like that on the mos random streets. Seeing massive protests are cool and make you feel like you are witnessing a massive piece of history that was lacking in AC3. Then the missions seem more varied with an emphasis on stealth, something the AC games have lacked for a while. And the combat is solid as always, and enemies seem better at fighting you for once instead of standing there all the time. That said, it's easy to get cheap kills. The biggest con is the AI at times when you aren't in combat is puzzling. This is a constant issue, and I don't know if they will ever truly fix some better AI. They tried with a system of an enemy seeing where you were spotted last, but when they reach that point in a small area they stopped there instead of checking out the next room. In the large outdoor areas it makes sense, and it works when you ran across the corner and then sneak into a building that is open before an enemy can see you sneak in. But indoors it's puzzling and sad at times. Stealth mechanics aren't horrible, but not the best. Finally the story is just there, so far. I haven't been intrigued in an AC story since AC Brotherhood I even though AC Pirates the story was just there with random issues between you and other NPCs. Overall this game is solid, but if you are bored with AC series, then wait for it to be on sale. If you enjoy the AC series and like history like I do, then you'll enjoy it.

I was indifferent about this game when it was hyped and when it came out, but after getting it for $36 on a amazon sale, I can say I'm impressed. The gameplay is very fun and satisfying. The game play is very fast paced, the weapons for your mech are fun, and the hit detection is solid. Also you have a lot of NPCs playing with you in each match, so every game feels like a big battle. I really enjoy that aspect. Now this game isn't perfect. The campaign is a multiplayer campaign, and it's fun. But the story is pretty much non-existent, and there isn't a single player campaign. I think it would be cool if they had single player campaign, then a multiplayer campaign. The current campaign by itself is very short, and I think it was a missed opportunity. Also the last flaw is I think there should be more weapons for your solider. The amount of weapons and customization is underwhelming. Also the NPCs, while cool to have you in battle, are basically walking targets. They aren't too smart or difficult, but they are good for target practice or getting a few kills. So if you find this game on sale for $40 or less, then I recommend you check it out if you enjoy FPS games. You will find the gameplay very satisfying, sound effects are good, and fighting mechs on foot or in one is really fun. That said, the game isn't worth $60 for what it has. It's worth $30 in my view, but for $40 I think you'll still get your money's worth.

It's a solid game overall, but it has a few issues. The biggest one is a few bugs like sound issues to servers/game crashing on you in multiplayer. They have acknowledge that and are fixing on it, so hopefully that will be resolve soon. The other issue I have, and sadly it's common practice now, but the premium and DLC packs. In a sense I don't consider these packs taking away from the main game because the amount of maps the main game has is on par with all previous titles have at launch. The downside to me is the fact at one time maps and DLC was free, or even cheap, not $15 for four maps. Furthermore the gameplay is good as always, but the biggest improvements is the map design is a little more open then 3 in my view. Metro and other maps failed at times as it was too linear for a BF game without multiple access points, and these maps seem to have corrected that issue. Also there is more emphasis on vehicles on some maps, and even naval warfare on a couple of maps. Finally the levolution technology which is a cool idea seeing certain parts of the map changing the dynamic of your strategy, but it isn't always executed well. Some maps change how you attack a point, but other times it just adds some debris in the way. In regards to the single player campaign it's nothing special. It has some cool moments and it's fun, but it isn't long or anything revolutionary. It's a typical popcorn flick in which there is a lot of action, a basic story without much character development, and it consists a few what you would call wow moments. Overall the game feels more stable then BF3, and it has some nice changes which I think are good. If you like multiplayer shooters, definitely check out; however, if you are a player who randomly enjoys them, then wait for a sale on the main game or get BF3 as you have plenty of choices for your FPS fix.

This is an am amazing game to end this generation. I'm a big GTA fan, and while I enjoyed 4, but it felt lacking on some fronts from the PS2 era GTA games. GTA V brings in a good balance of the realism and darker themes of GTA 4 with characters with their own issues, but the craziness from previous games is back to an extent. I've grown older and more mature from the PS2 era, but it's nice to have a variety of missions in regards to gameplay, and throughout the entire game it isn't just a handful of missions that are interesting, but overall majority of the missions are interesting and fun. The problem with GTA games main storyline is there are usually some long lows in which not much happens until the next big game. Obviously the heists are the big high point in this game, but there are plenty of missions for each characters that are fun and memorable. On top of that you have plenty of side activities which GTA 4 lacked. Finally the three character progression and switching back and forth during missions is a bold idea that was executed really well. It's fun switching between characters during a mission in real time, and it really enhances the gameplay. In a sense it gives it more realism that it isn't one person handling everything as you worked together as a crew in a lot of missions. If you haven't played this yet, then get it. It's amazing!

First of all, this is probably one of the best games I've played in a long time. I felt like this is one of the best post apocalyptic story out there, and overall I saw strong connections to other stories like "I am Legend" and the first season of the "Walking Dead." The biggest strength is the character development between Ellie and Joel, and there is a lack of cliches that you'll see in other games and stories. The best thing is the drama between the characters feels genuine and not petty drama like the Walking Dead has become on TV. The other good strength is the combat as it influences survival instincts by limiting the resources you can get as ammo and knifes, therefore you usually have to resort to stealth. If you fail with your stealth, then you'll end up using most of your resources or you'll easily die. The gameplay is setup in which you have various paths to take out your enemies or try to sneak around. The only gripe I have is the enemy AI at times seems to lack logic when they are searching for you, and your companions sometimes make loud noises that don't make sense when you are sneaking around. That said, I was able to look past that as it didn't deprive the gameplay for me. Finally the environment is the strongest aspect of the game. There is a diverse range of environments from cities to countryside to small towns, and the map design for each areas feels unique. The art direction of the environments is outstanding, and it really feels like a post apocalyptic America with little moments that bring in the immersion such as finding letters in which you learn about random people's past. Overall, I highly recommend people to try the game out as it's one of the best games for the PS3.

Simply put, this game is really fun. I won't spoil the story, but it's mostly a satire and homage towards 80s action heroes. The music, setting, and dialogue is over the top and hilarious. Finally the action is similar to Far Cry 3 as it's using the same engine, but the variation with the enemies along with some cool moves make it feel fresh and exciting. If you enjoyed FPS, the Far Cry Series, or just want a fun game then get it.

First of all, I didn't play Persona 4 on the PS2. When the original game came out, I wasn't interested in turn based RPGs, or into Japanese games. The true is still the same today, but this is a game I've heard so much about that a friend got it for me for Christmas. Honestly, it's one of the most enjoyable games I've played since the Mass Effect series. I'm having issues putting the game down. I'm not going into the story much, but the story is addicting and I enjoy building my relationships with my friends. I honestly find that very addicting, and it's cool thinking of the possibilities of different outcomes with your friends depending on your choices. NOw the combat is nothing revolutionary as it's a turn based RPG, but it's satisfying and fun unlocking new attacks and Personas to use. Finally, my favorite aspect is how long the game is. There are so many ways to level up certain aspects that increase your friendships with the people around you, then you can work on your combat skills with all of your teammates. If you enjoy a long game with a good story and deep character development, then you have to check this game out.

I'm a big fan of the AC series, and overall this is an enjoyable game, but with a few hiccups. I'll start off with the issues I've encountered and that is a few bugs and glitches. Fortunately nothing that has been game breaking, but annoying such as your horse running into an invisible wall randomly on a path. And other little things that are weird, but funny such as people walking on air. Otherwise I haven't had any that have made the game unplayable. Also early on the game you are limited to what you can do, and that is common in all AC games, but it takes about 3-4 hours to finally get to a part in which you can explore and do things on your own. That said, there are some things this game does well to improve on the AC formula. The biggest one is the environment feels lively and breathtaking. The Frontier is beautifully and fighting off wolves and bears are fun, and makes it easy to get money. The time frame is something I personally enjoy as I love the Revolutionary War, and meeting people like Samuel Adams, John **** and taking part of the Tea Party, Paul Revere's ride, the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and so forth make it exciting, and the way they presented these events is amazing to say the least. Finally the missions overall have typical AC affair in which you constantly fighting people, but they added some new missions including naval battles and helping out people to build your community. Some of these missions are quite unique and breathes some fresh air into the series. Furthermore, the naval battles are epic and exciting to take part in. Finally the combat is more challenging now, and sometimes it's easy to get overwhelm and you take a lot of damage quickly if you don't time your attacks well. Furthermore, the new weapons and counter moves allow you to pull some cool and quick kills that make you feel like you are Jason Bourne. Overall, this is a good game in which you'll get your money's worth due to all the side missions and exploring you can do. Also if you are a history buff that loves this era, then you'll enjoy taking part of famous battles and seeing things play out.
