SteamWorld Heist II9
Sep 13, 2024
Like first SteamWorld Heist but bigger and better. There are four main differences:
1. You are no longer piloting the spaceship. You are the captain of a submarine, and you can freely explore the whole map.
2. There are ship upgrades that impact ship parameters and crew skills and statistics.
3. There is a well-thought-out multiclass system that gives you way more options on how to progress/organize your crew.
4. There are bounty and rest mechanisms that push you to use all your crew members every "day" if you want to maximize your loot. If you liked the first SteamWorld Heist, or you like turn-based tactic games, you will love this one. Btw. Works great on Steam Deck.

Tails of Iron8

Nice gameplay, good story, fantastic atmosphere. Game works great on switch: both in terms of performance as well as in terms of a portable game for short and long sessions. Some fights are difficult but follows template: die X times to learn how the boss is acting, then kill him at X+1th attempt. Luckily checkpoints are located very generously so there is no frustration with constant dying. Generally I got a lot of fun and only disappointing thing was the ending. Through the game you discover mysterious and interesting world that leaves you with many, many questions that are never answered.

Disgaea 4 Complete+8

Core Turn Based RPG experience, you could drown in all mechanics it has. Other than that: great characters, especially lord Valvatorez.
Very nice story, I also like how it is "flavored" with politics (like always there are senators but this time your goal is to overthrow government (or how game call it: Corrupternment), you appoint ministers and even have a nice fancy photo of your cabinet).
Also big big big plus for graphics. Fantastic art and in this version, instead of static pictures (or jumping "cards" like in Disgaea 5 or 6) we have some basic animations during dialogues which looks just great! IMHO: only downside is that authors tried to focus on "geo-cubes" mechanic too much, and a lot of stages "screams" to use it.

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny8

**TL;DR:** Could graphic/performance be better? Yes. Is it different that other Disgaea games? Yes. Will it enrage core fans? For sure! Is it fun game when you get used to totally different approach than usual? Yes, yes and one more time Yes!!!
I bounced from this game 2 or 3 times but when I finally gave it a real chance, I was surprised how great it is! I get it why this game is rated so low. It has its problems: e.g. on Switch Performance could be better, and I am not really a fan of this new 3D approach but other than that I had really good time.
Story like every Disgaea: not a masterpiece but captivating enough.
Little bit of humor, plot-twist or two, serious topic in the background. Main characters are hit-and-miss, some of them I liked and for other I couldn't care less but main duo: Zed and Cerberus are right now my favorite protagonists in the entire series.
And now Elephant in the room: simplification and auto-battle.
Game is simplified: lost some of features and mechanics, focus on equipment is reduced (thus Item World as well), all deployed characters share exp, levels generally can be passed by game itself i auto-battle, and everything is inflated: stats, levels, hp. etc. But on the other hand it works great with whole concept, where main protagonist already reincarnated thousands of times and is already a though guy. Idea is that he need to fight strongest god of destruction ever thus getting a better equipment or even reaching level 9999 is not enough. And you need to reincarnate more and more to surpass these limitations making this game more a "Disgaea Manager 2021" rather than core Turn Based RPG experience.
You plan which of your team members to use , you plan which evilities to buy, which will help them to get more stats and karma points, you reach crazy levels on auto-battle and then reincarnate which will re-start your character to level 1 but will allow to reach new peaks. This mechanic is nothing new in Disgaea but never was a intended as main mechanic for main story. And it is in Disgaea 6 where even at the end of every chapter we read: "The Wheels of reincarnation never stop, and thus, a new story begins".
It is different than other Disgaea games, and I hope whole series will not head in that direction but having a little gem like Disgaea 6 is welcomed breath of fresh air.
Note: It is great on Switch, where you can play for a few minutes (or hours) and then leave it aside with auto-battle on. A little like Disgaea Tamagochi. But I can imagine that on other consoles or PC this mechanic might not work that great.

Disgaea 1 Complete8
Sep 13, 2023
Flonne, Laharl and Etna makes great lovable trio of characters. Gameplay is a little outdated compared to e.g. Disgaea 5 but still a lot of fun. Story is just ok but good enough to keep you entertained forthese ~30h. But most importantly: this is perfect Switch game: good to play for hours at once but you can play it just 10 minutes while you commute as well.

Inscryption9

Why it is so dark, why I am in cabin, why this guy want to play cards with me? Why I cannot see his face? Why stoat, one of my cards, speaks to me and ask me to not hurt it??? This is how Inscription starts. Great product that shows how to tell story with a "card game". It is not like Witcher's Gwent which is just a side game with Witcher's characters. Here everything: lore, story, mechanics, plot-twists and much much more is all around "cursed" card game. You play not only to enjoy simple yet fun card game, you also play to reveal the whole story! ... and why this stoat's head looks more and more rectangular with every game?

Persona 5 Royal6
Apr 24, 2023
This is just nice game with nice story. Nothing more. Technically: Perfect Switch port, no issues But as a game: 6/10. Gameplay is divided into 2 parts: social and "dungeon". You go to school, work, attend activities, improve relationships, date. During dungeon part you fight. You use personas which you either "catch" or create with fusions. Each persona use different attack types and has different weaknesses. Each persona represents "Arcana" just like your relationships. Better relations with friend that represent "Justice" arcana will make "Justice" persona fusions better. Oversimplifying: Like Pokemon game where "power of friendship" impact how well your subordinates will fight. This is solid 7/10 mechanic but not good enough to keep you for 120h. What keep you is story and social links. Sadly in Persona 5 Royal (except a few) all social links are dull. E.g. in Persona 4 you focus on your friends: who they are and who they want to be. Persona 4 is about growing and accepting yourself. In Persona 5 you focus on your friends problems. One guys is kicked out of sports team, other girl is worried about her friend, 3rd want to make medication. In most cases you just don't really care. Story is not bad but is not extraordinary either. Persona 4 had 5/10 mechanics but main story and all sub-stories made it 9.5/10 game. Persona 5 has 7/10 mechanics and 5/10 story which make it 6/10 game.
