Cyberpunk 20778
Dec 20, 2020
Great world, atmosphere, and story. The game can be a bit buggy in annoying and sometimes hilarious ways but fortunately saving and reloading will fix anything I came across that was game breaking (except my character going bald whenever I looked into a mirror). Choices matter some and there is tons of side content to keep you busy where the story itself gives you about five total endings. It is hard for the game to live up to the hype but I was very much entertained and recommend it.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice10
Oct 8, 2020
This game is an absolute masterpiece. The story is immersive from the very opening credits. The combat is not complicated but is very enjoyable and each boss fight has a unique challenge to overcome. The environments and storytelling are what shine the most and I can't understate how amazing the game is. The story telling is perfect and tackles a subject that very few in entertainment do and do well. I suggest playing only a few hours at a time as you experience what the Senua experiences and it can be a bit overwhelming. It took me about 6 hours total to get through in three sittings.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter7
Sep 15, 2020
This is the first Sherlock Holmes game I've played through significantly and I was happily rewarded. The game is full of some mini games some may not be fond of but everything is skipable (at least on normal mode). I played on normal mode as I was looking for just a relaxing game where I could just sit back and think. There are 5 chapters in the game and each their own case. You must solve some puzzles and piece together clues to make a deduction. There are two or more suspects and you must select who is at fault and their fate at the end of each case. This can be challenging and really has you have to think of all the events and make a conclusion. You can tell this game was made with care and while not a AAA title it does its best and I think the outcome is a game anyone wanting to solve mysteries and crimes would enjoy. The first case has a bit too many mini games (one that is "dog" gone ridiculous) but I suggest anyone turned off at least try the second case. My favorite by far was the last two cases.

A New Beginning8
Sep 12, 2020
Classic point and click adventure game with an interesting story, great music, and decent puzzles. The opening scene takes place in the future in which a solar flare is about to wipe out the rest of the human race. A team is sent back in time to prevent this. The story takes place in the 1980s with flashbacks to other times told by those involved. It is an intriguing story about climate change and each of the main characters are given unique interesting personalities to fit. The only negatives I have for the game is that the game was not originally in English and this is noticeable with the audio synch to the mouth movements and a few bad translations. In addition the voice acting is often "off" either due to the voice actors first language not being English (though they speak it well) or it just not being timed right. You will often very rarely get action prompts in German (I think). I would save often as well as I did have the game not let me open my inventory at the end of chapter 2 and it crashed near the end of the game. My conclusion is if you like classic point and click adventures you should pick this up. The inventory puzzles and other puzzles are well designed, the story is very interesting, and the soundtrack is very good.

Full Throttle Remastered5
Sep 12, 2020
This one I'm on the fence about. It is a great remaster of a 1995 LucasArts point and click adventure game but the gameplay and story do not age well. I am only recommending it because of the fantastic effort put into the remaster features which include upgraded graphics, the ability to switch to old graphics at any time, and even commentary. This is one of the only LucasArts games I know about that I do not have nostalgia for as I somehow missed it. It is a classic point and click adventure with the antagonist being a leader of a biker gang. You are quickly thrung into a conflict with the future of the only motorcycle manufacture left. The story is a bit lacking and character development a bit bland. There are much better modern and classic games in this genre but the effort put into the remaster is to be commended.

Yuppie Psycho8

Interesting story, bizarre characters, and good puzzles. The game is a pixel horror adventure game that takes place in an office on your first day of work. Strange things are going on in the office and the game never takes itself too seriously. The game should take about 8 hours to complete to a "good" ending. The one part that could have made this game even better would have been voice acting on at least the cut scenes.

Don't Escape: 4 Days to Survive8
Sep 12, 2020
An excellent point and click inventory puzzle adventure game in the pixel art style. The unique part of the game is that not all items are useful for the event you are trying to survive and you have to make a decision on what you will spend time on to survive each day. The characters are interesting and easy to become attached to and with the scifi post-apocalyptic story any fans of the genre should enjoy this.

Evoland: Legendary Edition8
Sep 12, 2020
This edition includes Evoland 1 and Evoland 2 which are considerably different when it comes to depth and content. Evoland 1 takes no more than 4 hours to complete and is a fun RPG journey that takes you throw the early history of RPGs up to the PlayStation 1/N64/Dreamcast era. The game will poke fun at but a tribute to the Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Diablo games that defined the 80s and 90s of RPG gaming. Evoland 2 expand on the original game but with much more content and a full blown story. The base of the story is very much based on Chrono Trigger but unlike the original which focused on replicating different RPGs of those 80s-90s, Evoland 2 takes in elements of beat'em'up, shoot'em'up, turn-based strategy, and even rhythm games. The adventure is much more expansive and took me 30 hours to obtain all the achievements and beat the game on the hardest difficulty.

A Plague Tale: Innocence7
Sep 12, 2020
Am enjoyable action adventure game that takes place in 1348 during the Hundred Years' War. You are quickly thrown into a journey with your little brother and must navigate soldiers and hungry rats. There is some crafting in the game as well as some light environment puzzles. The game is mostly focused on being stealthy while later in the game there is a bit more fighting. Overly I enjoyed it while the first half of the game was a bit boring and no real challenge. The second half the story picks up and there is some moments leading to the end of the game.

Forgotton Anne9
Aug 14, 2020
Frogotton Anne is a light puzzle platform adventure game. The parts that truly stands out are the gorgeous aesthetics and colorful characters. I would highly recommend the game for just the story, characters, and beautiful animations. You play Anne, a human in a world of forgotten things. The world reminds me a little of the movie The Brave Little Toaster and it may have gotten some ideas from it. There are only two small parts I will dock this game points for and they are - They are dialog choices that affect a bit of the story but do not affect the end of the game. - The puzzles are a little light and other than the platforming ones there is only one other puzzle type. You should be able to finish the game in less than 8 hours and complete all trophies in about 12 hours.

An enjoyable thriller visual novel with a bit of point and click puzzle elements to it. Both the story and characters are interesting. There are multiple endings and getting to a normal ending should take about four hours. The one major negative I would point out to this game is the problematic New Game+ and skipping of dialog you have already read. There are multiple endings (and one you only get with New Game+) and only maybe 10% of the dialogue is skippable making getting the other endings a serious drag. "The Cat God's Blessing" ending is the most difficult to obtain but I found it enjoyable despite the painful amount of clicking required to skip through dialog I already have read. The game can be a bit buggy at times as well with one of the issues being able to click on dialog hidden dialog choices you shouldn't be able to use.

The Last of Us Part II10
Jun 27, 2020
A spectacular story where all of your questions will be answered by the end. You will get a real sense of why you as the player are doing what you do. To not spoil anything this game is not about survival. I didn't love the game in the first 5 hours, but the next 23 it took me to complete it easily made up for it. I played the game on Hard difficulty and found the combat did not provide a lot of consequences to dieing as the restore points were very generous. It has been a while since I played the original but felt like the original provided a lot more of an intense experience. The environments, characters, and storytelling are the real winners here and reason I rate this game a 9.5/10 (round up).

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons9
May 23, 2020
A story of two brothers on an adventure. The main mechanic in this game is you play both brothers with one controlled by each thumbstick and each trigger. It makes for some good light puzzling. There is no dialog but the world and actions of the brothers speak for themselves. The environments are gorgeous. It is definitely worth the 2-3 hours it takes to complete.

Great puzzle game. You have to create combine and alter molecules to create a specific compound. Game doesn't provide any real instructions but if you give it a few minutes of trial and error you should be able to figure it out. I only played through the main puzzles but will probably come back to it and try the extra puzzles as well. Puzzle 33 was definitely the most challenging for me. I believe there are 64 molecule puzzles total and a solitaire game resembling FreeCell.

I can only guess that the people that voted this with positive scores never played through the entire game. I initially played this at launch and after 20 some hours shelved it. 3.5 years later I picked it up again with the object of completing it only to find out the last half of the game was unfinished and rushed to release like many SquareEnix games in the last 3 or so years. Instead of them actually fixing this in subsequent patches they released payed DLC.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order4

I am shocked by the many good reviews of this game, especially from publications. I started playing the game on the second to hardest difficulty and had to lower it after I made it to the end of the second planet. The game puts you in unwinnable situations and I would be ok with this to some point of the resspawn times were not horrendous (on PS4) and take upwards of a minute. Controls can be clunky and are sometimes unresponsive. The negatives of the game: - Do you like snowboarding games with poor controls? Then you will like much of the beginning of this game as it has you sliding down areas repeatedly. - Characters are few and boring. I think the Nightsister was the only one that had a personality. - Story is weak and the parts that are supposed to enact some sort of emotion fall flat. Maybe this is Disney's influence. The ending is interesting but far too little to make up for the rest. - "Metroidvania" is not an excuse for a confusing layout. - As I said before the controls are clunky and sometimes unresponsive. They released a new patch for this but it has not improved. - Lack of attention to detail. For instance when underwater it completely skips an animation when you open a chest. This just shows you how little they cared to polish this game. Graphical bleed through happens constantly. Positives: - The few boss fights exist are enjoyable. - Art design is good.

AI: The Somnium Files9
Dec 6, 2019
I will start off by saying that if you enjoyed the Nonary games you will enjoy this game. If you enjoyed the Danganronpa series it is possible you may enjoy this game. This is not just a visual novel game but has sequences where you have to interact with objects to solve "mind" puzzles. The game is fully voice acted and other than a few scenes (with crying) that are supposed to be emotional that fall a little flat, the voice acting is excellent and each character you interact with is well written with individual personality. In addition to the voice acting the character models are also animated when they speak so a nice improvement over the normal visual novel formula. The only large negative opinion I have would be a few select action parts that are overly dumb which I won't go into since it might be considered a spoiler but you'll know what I mean if you end up getting this.

Borderlands 38

This is my first experience in the Borderlands franchise and I was extremely impressed with the writing and the comedy of the game. You will end up becoming fairly attached to the characters. I would categorize the game as a pretty basic shooter but the whimsical nature and overall story does give it a leg up. I almost gave up on the game in the beginning because it does start out a little slow and forces you down a path but after that the gameplay does recover and make for a worthwhile experience. The biggest negative I would have for the game is that there is too much loot and it makes it a bit overwhelming determining which weapons you want to keep and which you will sell. I would say this is much more extreme than open world games such as Fallout 4 and the Elder Scrolls franchise and can be a little overwhelming. Took me about 40-50 hours to complete with a moderate play of the side missions.
