Octopath Traveler 03
Mar 7, 2026
If SquareEnix aimed to create a game, that is a pain to play, then they succeeded. The battle system is a pain, because it's build on a stagger system and the problem that comes with stagger systems is, that battles need to take long, so you can utilize the stagger system. Enemies need to have massive health pools and battles need to drag in for longer, than they are fun. And then you have bosses with 20 shields you need to break in order to do damage and if you beat the boss there's a phase 2. There's way to many multiphase boss fights. They shouldn't be any multiphase boss fights. Also this game has the same problem as all the other Octopath Traveller games, that your party isn't existent in the story. While some of the individual stories are well written, this really drags down the story overall. The only positive thing about the game is the artstyle and the music. Everything else just ****.

Mafia: The Old Country7
Aug 14, 2025
With Mafia 1 and 2 they had a formula, that worked great, why do you need to reinvent the wheel?
This game is better than Mafia 3, but unfortunately still far from the quality of Mafia 1 and 2. I don't understand the design decision to make free roam into a separate mode, you have to start from the main menu. Why not giving players the abilitiy to free roam between missions or objectives?
The story Mode feels very tiring this way, because it just pushes you from objective to objective and if you go a few steps to the left or to the right, you immediately get a timer to return to the Mission area. Why am I even introduced to the shop if I can never go there?
And free roam feels completely detatched from the game. If there's no missions, why do I even collect collectibles? Sure I can use the stuff in story Mode too, but it just feels like I'm playing two different halfs of a full game. The worst thing is, you can't even access the full map in the free roam, because some areas are only accessible during certain missions. So if I want to collect stuff there,I need to go back to story mode and replay those missions. It's all just so fragmented. The gameplay unfortunately also is clunky with many bugs. The budget for this game probably wasn't very high and unfortunately it shows. I just wish they would have saved money by not licensing real actors and instead improving the gameplay. I hope this at least makes 2k enough money for a new Mafia game, that hopefully is as good as Mafia 1 and 2 again. We don't need the open bloat from Mafia 3, but being completely on rails like in Mafia the old country also isn't good. Just integrate free roam into the story mode, so I can do some stuff between missions and decide myself when I want to start the next Mission. Also give us a minimap and markers we can place. That's like the minimum requirement for open world games.

I am not so far into the game yet, but so far it'sa very fun game. I personally don't like the DMC like take on Yakuza combat and the main story and setting are a little too freaky for my taste, but it's still a good game. Just one of the weaker entries in this great series. I just hope the future games in the series will dial everything a bit back. With more grounded combat and main story. The flashyand freaky stuff should rather be in the side content.

Man this game is a breath of fresh air. Usually you only get games like this from indie developers, but it's awesome to see a game like this with a bigger budget. The gameplay is super fun, it really utilises the PS5 and the controller super well. And I like all the minor details, like the loads of balls, cans or leafs scattered arround, that you can just push and throw around. In most AAA games stuff like this won't make it into the game, because it costs development ressources, but doesn't have an effect investors can grasp. But it does so much for the game, from the viewpoint ****. THIS is the closest to what games on the PS1 have been, before everything got super streamlined and every big dev basically made the same game just with different skins. This game needs to become Game of the Year!

As much as I like the Yakuza series, this is one of the weakest entries in the series. The story just isn't good. There are many forced plot twists, that feel ridiculous even compared to some weird plot twists in other games. Kiryus part feels like filler, because it's completely detached from the main story. The characters most of the time get forgotten as soon as they areintroduced, just like complete plots. The game leaves a lot of loose ends, that the writers probably just forgot about by the end. And making Hawaii the setting wasn't a good idea either. The way the language barrier is handled in this game just rips me out of immersion all the time. Badischen everyone except for 2 or 3people in the beginning of the game speaks prefect Japanese. Some native Americans even have a very strong accent when speaking English. Also because of Hawaii the plot is so devided because you can't just travel as easily between Japan and Hawaii as you can between Japanese cities. And Hawaii doesn't add anything to the game, that Japan couldn't. You could have had the same tropical setting in Okinawa or one of the southern islands of Japan. The gameplay is great however and an overall improvement over Yakuza Like a Dragon. Also it has the most amount of minigames and side content of any Yakuza game. For my taste it's actually already a bit too much, because I got completely lost in the side content to the point, that I forgot what had happened in the main story. Overall for me it's just a 7/10 and that's just because of the gameplay. If the gameplay wasn't that good it would have been even lower, because everything else unfortunately is not good. I hope it gets better in the next game again and I hope RGG Studio focuses on Japan again.

I really enjoy the stealth in this game. Also as a fan of ancient Asian settings in games I am happy, that team ninja finally added an easy mode to their game, so I can play it aswell. My only complaints are, that missions feel to detached from the open world, AI of companions isn't very good when trying to stealth and the way how you do missions for both sides and the NPCs don't address it, that they just fought with you, when having a friendly chat later or that you basically betray them when working against them after becoming friends. That's why it's only a 9/10. I really hope for another game like this, where this issues can be addressed.

It's hard to give this game such a low rating, because I love classic JRPGs with turn based combat and was really looking forward to this game. But unfortunately this game gets worse as it goes. It started out great. The graphic was awesome, the battle system really fun, it felt like solving mini puzzles with the locks, and the music was good too. But as I keep playing the battle system starts to get annoying. First of all, every enemy attack takes way too long. The animations are slow and often take up to 5 seconds. But that's not all. There is always a wait before the enemy even executes the attack. It's 2 seconds, where the name of the attack is displayed and nothing happens in this 2 seconds. This really gets annoying after a while. The idea with the locks is great. But the execution is poorly. Often you'll have locks, you just can't solve in the required time. It doesn't help, that your characters only have very few skills. So some locks can only be destroyed by a very specific skill of one specific character. More skills, to make this more dynamic and actually solvable locks would be needed to make this battle system fun. As it is now, it's garbage. And this is coming from a hardcore turn based fan. Another big problem is the pacing. This game runs like on trai tracks. Rarely do I get the chance to explore of the beaten path and if I do, there is nothing to find. This game is rushing me the whole time and not giving me a break to catch my **** example there is an island I lifted a curse from. To do this I needed to go through some woods, go through the lair of some witch and finally go through a big mansion with 3 boss fights in the end. But after this I get a breather right? Wrong! I immediately have to go to a ghost ship, clear it from enemies and clear 3 islands just to go to a fourth island to fight the boss. But now I have the ship, now I can explore right? Wrong! I can't go anywhere except for the next story segment, where the plot automatically advances and won't let me go back to the ship.I'm playing for 12 hours now and only saw 2 cities and the few houses in the starting area. Give me a break between story events. Let me tackle side content or go back to previous areas to do stuff I missed before. Let me explore a bit. Stop rushing me all the time, as if you have to pay for every second I spend in the game. Also character progression is nonexistent. You level up and choose stats to boost, but what for? The enemies level with you. You will never be stronger than at the beginning of the game. You even rarely get new equipment. In the game one character even makes fun about, how in other games the smiths somehow by chance get better in every town you visit. But it is like this in every JRPG, because it makes sense. It gives the player a sense of progression and is fun. And in a game a system that is fun is much better than a system, that is realistic but not fun! Also I don't get how in 2023 people still think it's a good idea to make enemies scale with you. IT ALWAYS WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE AN EXTREMELY BAD FEATURE!!!In every game, where the enemies scale with you, the biggest complain of players is this exact feature. There hasn't been a single game where this feature has been not bad, let alone good. Unfortunately this game is style over substance. It looks awesome, but it plays very bad.

When I started the game I would have probably rated it 8.5/10 but now, that I've spent a good amount of time in this game I'm rather at 6.5/10 so since I have to round I give it 7/10. The game unfortunately really lacks meaningful content. Outside of the few factions you won't find much interesting quests, let alone quest chains. This seems to be the smallest Bethesda game ever content wise. Also it has the typical Bethesda issues like horrible menus and bad path finding AI. Never bring companions to stealth missions. They will just run into enemy camps if you jump down a ledge. The loading times are also crazy. Going from one space station to another will have 4 loading times in between, because you need to go through the docking process everytime you enter or leave a space station.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie5
Aug 21, 2023
This is the weakest entry in the series. It's just too much of everything. Too many characters, too many quartz, too much equipment, too many gameplay systems and minigames all thrown at you way too fast.
I felt overwhelmed with all the stuff. You unlock new characters, quartz and equipment so fast, that you can't even keep up with upgrading slots, picking equipment for characters and organizing their quartz. Because when you do it 30 minutes later half of your party is changed for story purposes and you'll have to do it all over again.
At some point I just stopped to care for upgrading slots, equipment or quartz and just ran with the equipment the characters came with. Also the amount of minigames would be ok, if they were optional. But they aren't. You need to do them in order to unlock things you need for the base game, like additional character slots. And why the frick can I skip story cutscenes but I can't skip cutscenes of those day dreams, that sometimes just give a bit side info on characters and sometimes are outright nonsense like the magical girl stuff, where you have a sailor moon like story just with the Trails girls.
Why do I have to sit through those nonsense cutscenes, that take 15 minutes to finish even if I skip the complete text, while I am able to skip actual mainstory cutscenes?!

Final Fantasy XVI0
Jun 24, 2023
Just another Final Fantasy game, that fails to deliver. The world looks great, but it's just a lifeless scenery. There are barely people you can actually talk to and if there are, they don't have anything interesting to say. The characters also look too clean for a medival fantasy game. The battle system is again very chaotic. Once you gain more abilities there are light shows all over the screen and you barely know what's going on. It just isn't a problem, because most enemies don't even pose a threat. Except for their large health pools they don't have anything going for them. So even with blind button mashing you'll be fine. The battles just drag on for way too long. Also it's very annoying, that you often get animation locked by your abilities. This is so counterintuitive for an ARPG. If you want to make action combat, design your skills for action combat, so that my character responds to my input and isn't locked for 3 seconds, because he has to go through a lengthy animation. If you want to make lengthy and flashy animtions, go back to making turn based games. At least there players can enjoy those animations. In an ARPG they are just an hindrance. The side quests are the worst type of fetch quests you'll ever see in a video game. It's unbelievable how a series known for their great side quests could turn into this. There is barely no RPG and almost no J left in this JRPG. It's more like a character action game than anything else. The skill progression system is so shallow, they could just have removed it all together and turned the whole game into an Action game instead of an JRPG. But the worst thing are those Eikon battles the game advertises with. They just aren't fun and fell so out of place. You see like 20-30 seconds of interesting animations and actions, but the battles drag on for 5 minutes or more. You just keep repeating the same mind numbing stuff over and over and over again, barely doing any damage to your enemy and having to rewatch the same animations over and over and over again. So after a while you get really annoyed by those animations, that were supposed to be cool and awesome. You just wish to finally get over with this fight and move on with the story. It would have been much much better if SE made the Eikon battles just 20-30 seconds long cutscenes. The story and characters are the only good aspects of this game, but they can't save this trainwreck. Before you buy this game check out the demo.

Nintendo didn't fix any of the critiques from BotW. There are still weapons that break before the enemy does. The shrines are back, while the so called "dungeons" aren't any different from the beasts in BotW. The controls got even worse. And the world, while still beautiful doesn't have anything worthwhile to do.

People that are used to newer RGG games might miss a few comfort features, the newer games have, but as any RGG game it's an awesome game.
You get a cool story based on Japanese history, where characters from RGG games represent the historical characters. It has loads of content you can explore and the awesome substories typical for the series. The battle system feels a bit slow at first, but gets much better as you progress. Overall this game is incredible.

This is "Baby's first open world game". It's so formulaic, that you can name any open world cliche and it will be in the game. Square Enix should have made this game linear, maybe then it would have been good. As it stands now it's just a subpar open world game in an ocean of open world games.

This game looks beautiful and starts great. But in chapter 2 it becomes some kind of stupid trial and error BS. Where you only have a few seconds to navigate through a dungeon, fighting enemies and solving riddles on the way. And every wrong move will instantly kill you and you have to redo the whole portion again. And often it's Mitt really clear what you need to do. Even if you already had the right solution, it didn't Work because you weren't standing at exactly the right place. And the assuming with the gun is just awful. Could have been a great game, but the gameplay is just garbage.

Overall it is a cool game and the story starts out very interesting. The biggest problem in my opinion is, that the story goes on for way to long. In the second half I already stopped caring about the characters. And it didn't help, that you had passages where you played characters, that were almost irrelevant to the story. Another critique point are the bad controls on the XSX. It often happened, that the game didn't register inputs in quick time events. Especially in sequences were I had to mash a button it seemed to register only half of my presses.

You have to be aware, that this game was created by a small team with a small budget. Therefore it won't compete with AAA titles. For what it is, this game is awesome. Some people here criticise the characters and story, but I absolutely disagree. The characters are interesting and have more characters than in your run of the mill JRPG. A main character that is a bit sassy is a refreshing breath of fresh air, when you consider most main characters in JRPGs are either the nice guy or the quite guy, that barely talks. Also the other characters are interesting and you often whitness some funny scenes. The overall story might not be exceptional, but it keeps you going. The battle system is the best thing about this game. It's addictive and a wellcome change from the occasional button masher. You can try different tactics with different skills and the game even rewards you for doing so, because you have some special objectives in most fights, and you get some bonus items or money when you complete them. Also it is very important to plan ahead and pick the right build. And the variety of gems and equipment really helps. It's really motivating to try different combinations and craft gems, to get even stronger gems, with better skills. Another plus are the multitude of customizations. It might be a bit overwhelming at first, how many options you have, to customize the game, but once you find out what everything does, you can create your own individual game experience. You can set the difficulty of the fights, how party and enemylevel scale, if saving everywhere is enabled or not, if you can teleport, how far the camera will be from your characters and of course you can also adjust the battle speed to your liking. The downside of this game is, that it has a lot of technical limitations. For example you will experience some framerate drops, the graphic can't compete with big AAA or even AA titles. The way you interact with characters and objects is sometimes weird, because you don't interact with the thing you face, but with the nearest thing to you, even if its behind you. If you are able to look past the technical problems of this game you will get a real hidden gem. What it tries to do, it does right. It creates an interesting world with a lot of lore, with loveable characters and a great battle system. And most of all it tries something all the big studios don't do anymore. It creates an JRPG like in the golden age and scratches an itch I've had for a long time. And in the end what matters is, what you receive for your money. And I got a lot of great hours out of this game, for a small price. That's why I rate this game 9/10.

This game is the best entry in the series so far. The story is great, the characters are cool and a lot of the characters from previous games have cameos in this game, there are less tedious side-quests than in previous games, overall the pacing feels a lot better than in previous entries and the battle system is great as always. Also vantag master is a very cool mini-game. The only downside of this game is the most infurating mini-game i've ever played in any game, ever. Pom Pom Party is just unfair, luck based and absolutely no fun at all. You can completly ignore this game, because you are not forced to play it. But as a completionist i can't just ignore it. I just hope this game will never ever return in any Trails game, ever. Without Pom Pom Party this game would have deserved a perfect score.

SquareEnix advertised this game with a "Classic mode" that should appeal to the Fans of the Classic Turn-Based Final Fantasy games. To a Classic Turn-Base Final Fantasy Fan this feels like a punch in the face. The classic mode is basically an Action-RPG that plays itself and occasionaly allows you to pick some actions. In the battles with regular enemies it's rather annoying to even pick actions, because the characters beat the enemies even if you don't do anything. So why even bother to do something? Also most of the time the enemies are almost dead by the time your ATB-gauge is filled. Except for bigger "HP-Sponge" enemies, that take forever to beat, but don't even have any mechanics to make the fight fun. They just seem to be there, to extend the playtime. And in Boss-Battles the ATB-gauge fills way to slow and for the characters you don't control the ATB-gauge almost doesn't fill at all. So you either have to switch back and forth between the characters, all the time, or you just control one character, while the others are completely useless. And the Action Combat does not work, because constantly picking actions and switching between characters makes it tedious. SquareEnix tried to make a game thats a Turn-Based and Action RPG in one but actually this game fails at both. Since the gameplay was this horrible i didn't play very far. So i can't say much about the story or the world. The characters seemed to be designed very well. But this is just a drop in the ocean.
