The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

This game is timeless. I can remember the first time playing it on the 64 as a kid, it was a piece of art. To be honest, I was a little nervous booting it up again. You know the feeling, when things from the past seem better in retrospect. This isn't one of those times. Zelda is a game that can be great for a 10 year old and a 27 year old. The graphics look great on the 3ds. They remastered them quite nicely. The 3d effect actually does add something to the game. I don't know how Nintendo does it, but it seems like this is a whole new game. I highly suggest this to newcomers and veterans alike.

How does this game get progressively worse each year? NO COMPETITION. EA is running a monopoly and it's killing sim football fans. I'm pretty sure the graphics were better last year. This casual, piece of stink is an embarrassment. Madden 2001 had a better franchise mode. It's still as bare bones as ever. I understand that they're trying to make the game accessible for everyone but it is coming at a price. NCAA 12 is better by far but doesn't get the sales. Maybe they should let those guys do the next Madden. Just a suggestion.

NFL Blitz (2012)

Blitz is still more fun than Madden, but it is missing a few things. The gameplay is still intact, everything from the playbooks to the animations are the same except for the late hits which actually is a big deal when you have attention deficit disorder. ;) The game is very fun online, especially with a friend and the Gauntlet mode is awesome for offline, but Blitz needs a season mode for stats addicts like me who are sick of Madden. Who cares if it's arcade football? The others had it, so why not it's updated version. If it had franchise or even season mode, then it would have scored a 9 but unfortunately EA left it out.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

Halo on the Xbox deserves every bit of praise that it receives. It was a great game and has actually stood strong through the test of time. You've played this before, so there's no use in reviewing the actual gameplay. The graphics were updated nicely and at anytime during the game, you can hit the back button to view the classic style. I loved Halo, it was the Goldeneye for the Xbox to me. So why did I give it a 7? It's because the coop is broken for many people. The lag is atrocious and my coop partner actually got motion sickness. Split screen and system link work fine but for some reason, they can't fix the online coop. Great game but if coop is important to you then I'd think twice.

Gears of War 3

Grab a couple of red bulls, grow a fu manchu, and tattoo yourself with ridiculous cliches. It's time for Gears of war. I love this game. It's ridiculous and unrealistic, and that's what makes it great. I liken it to the Contra of this generation. The co-op has never been better, and the multiplayer finally added team deathmatch. The campaign is very fun whether you want to just play through the story or have some friendly competition with arcade mode. A lot of players are complaining about the sawed off shotgun but it doesn't effect the game too much if a) you use it too or b) you are skilled with the gnasher OR c) keep your distance. Overall, this game is one that i can pick up and play at any time. I would recommend it to anyone.

Crysis

Crysis is finally on consoles but does it live up to it's PC counterparts? Yes and no. There's no multiplayer, but it's not priced as a whole game so that's not too disappointing. The graphics look great, but there's a lot of glitches as well. Enemies have awkward animations and sometimes they just flat out disappear. The combat is fun, but I found myself running out of ammo often and having to rely on meleeing enemies to death, which was actually quite fun when you use the stealth feature. For $30 though, you can't really complain. It's still more fun than most FPS on the market, and it definitely is better than Crysis 2.

Fable III

Peter did it again. He promised something and it didn't live up to expectations. By this point, it's safe to say that we as gamers are partially responsible for buying his over promised games. Fable III isn't a bad game by any stretch, but it isn't a great game either. The combat is fun, though there's not a lot of customization. The story is pretty poor compared to other entries, and the morality system is replaced by more of a political system. What drove me mad though was the fact that after putting in many hours to the game, my save became corrupted. I didn't factor that into the score but it's worth mentioning since I'm not the only one experiencing it.

Final Fantasy XIII-2

The combat is fun, but this is not the Final Fantasy that I grew up with. I knew that going in from beating XIII, but I was hoping for a little bit more exploration. Though the game isn't as linear as XIII, it still doesn't seem completely open with the sections being separated by time periods. I'm an older gamer, and I can't stand the characters. It's a little too melodramatic for my taste. Here's to hoping the next Final Fantasy will have a more mature/darker cast. It gets a lot right but in the ****'s nothing special.

This game tops any action RPG out there. It reminds me of what Fable was supposed to be. The story isn't anything to brag about, but that's not the focal point here. The combat is where this game shines and it shines well. Do you want to be a Mage who is also good at up close combat? Go ahead, KOA doesn't restrict you like other games in it's genre. It encourages you to mold your character to your exact specifications. Sleeper of the year if I had to guess.
