Most definitely the weakest in the series by far, limited weapons, dreary killstreaks, uninspiring level design, appalling respawns and latency issues when 2 people are firing at one another as shown through the killcam. Some of the killstreaks are stupidly overpowered like the guard dog which is ridiculously resilient which makes you wonder if your body armour is made of paper, the juggernauts are now stupidly tough to kill to the point where you might as well put the controller down and not bother. The squad mode and extinction add a little novelty to the game but even these additions aren't enough to save this cod, for fans of infinity ward stick to MW2 or MW3, for series fans in general stick to black ops 2 at least its fast paced and more interesting to play.

GT6 has a lot more depth than a lot of people realise this time around, that's not to say that its not without its faults but we'll get to that later. The menus are simpler to navigate and straightforward although certain options are unclear like the stockyard for instance, unless you check the manual you'll not truly know what rts purpose is unless you get 500+ cars and find your garage can't hold anymore hence why the stocklyard is there to chuck up 9999 cars in. With the racing everybody is commenting on the new physics engine but unless you turn everything off ie traction control and skid recovery others may not truly experience or understand what all the fuss is about, this time round polyphony has taken the clever step of putting tyre and pp restrictions on the career events and at first glance it can seem frustrating but its a smart idea to get you to grips with the other types and options when it comes to how you approach a race. The progression unlock system is nothing new but its not something that gt has used to till now, it is better than the xp system in gt5 although the rewards are fewer than before meaning you need to grind more unless you choose to purchase money via microtransactions. A couple of features that did not cross over to gt6 were the cumulative money bonus and the ability to view your friends profile/progress and borrow cars, whether these are to be patched in or not is unclear which is a shame because it was handy feature although I can see the idea behind it that they want you to work for it. The dreaded license tests are back have been halved which does make the game more accessible as for the graphics they've been cleaned up and sharpened slightly but there's nothing to make it stand out really apart from when you race at night which does make a significant difference to the way you drive. The track selection is better this time around with more real life locations such as brands hatch, silverstone, willow springs to name but a few as well as some interesting new and old tracks meanwhile photo mode and replay mode have also had some nice interesting tweaks as well.

This would've scored much higher if it wasn't for all the bs with regards to it being an expansion pack when in truth its more like a goty with shiny knobs on it. Don't get me wrong enemy within has a lot of interesting tech and other such stuff like the 2 additional ebemy types and new maps but the bottom line is this, if it really is an expansion pack then why the hell does it cost £30 for it? with the exception of WOW expansions this just a big a con as ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 which came out only a couple of months after the the original marvel vs capcom 3.

Borderlands 2 is no bad game by any stretch its cel shaded graphics are smoother, more crisp and sharper than the original although cel shaded graphics are not to everybody's liking. I understand what people are saying about the loot and quests being long and arduous and not worthwhile, the loot complaints are quite petty to say hte least, I'd be more concerned with the AI who in the 1st installment were quite ruthless but fair while in this its almost non-existent you can practically walk up to an enemy and look them in the eye before they take any action and then worse still after a short firefight the others will stop shooting and walk on?! The only time the AI seem to be on the ball is in boss fights, although the melee psycho's seem to work well cowering after taking a melee hit or two but otherwise unfinished is probably right in terms of the AI. One of the more irritating things is the inability to get out of the water if you fall in, amazingly enough your moon jumping from the first one has been toned down a slight bit but still big leaps are possible but if you land in the water you somehow can't get out which is quite hard to believe and frustratingly stupid as all you can do is respawn

Renegade Ops

User Scorecrackshot
Sep 21, 2011
Renegade Ops is a brilliant arcade blast coming from Sega nice overhead shooter that is simple fast and frantic gameplay blasting everything in site, rarely does a game get this mix just right. 4 playable characters each with a unique ability for their vehicle, upgrades can be bought and equipped through leveling up like health regeneration, extra ammo for secondary weapons etc. The online play works quite nicely with 4 player co-op play with plenty of primary and secondary objectives to complete with rhe primary ones you usually get a 3 minute timer if you start dawdling around too much, fail these and its game over. There are different vehicles to use apart from the vehicle you start with which are obtained further on in a mission so a there are score multipliers damage and killsreak, these have a gauge that depletes when not in combat so keep these going to level up faster. Point scoring is a big thing in this game which you can boost by rescuing prisoners taking as little damage as possible and keeping the score multipliers as high and as long as possible which are scored at the end of a mission and a rating given which range from poor to alien. Secondary weapons come in the form of missiles, rockets flamethrower and rail gun you'll find all very effective in the art of destruction as well as the the machine gun you have mounted you can get this upgraded for a bit of extra **** only **** this game has is not many up grades for the guns and upgrades are pretty much the same for all but prioritised differently not really that varied. This game in short is Metal Slug but overhead, to put it simply if you loved Metal Slug than you will love this.

Dead Island
6
User Scorecrackshot
Sep 15, 2011
Dead Island is an enjoyable, quite expansive fps experience, atmospheric to a degree while having a good mix of ideas taken from other games. It borrows the map, exploration, rpg elements from Fallout 3/NV, the weapon customisation from Dead Rising 1/2, zombie survival, genre from Left 4 Dead 1/2, skill tree and item recognition from World of Warcraft and having the odd vehicle to get into which is somewhat gratifying when running down a zombie. The Story itself is pretty simple and lacks any real substance, but then this being a zombie survival game it can it can be overlooked because the gameplay is where its most important. The game has 4 characters each with their own stats and weapon specialties they excel at as well as the skill tree layout. The main quests and side quests are pretty straightforward search and retrieve for the most part which usually result in items, weapons or cash. Cash is used for upgrading, repairing, creating or buying items from the numerous vendors scattered about the island but also lose some cash as a penalty when you die. The controls have a couple of layouts the digital control method lets you get right in the thick of the action and allows you to swing away but wit less control of which direction you hit the enemies from while the analogue although a little tricky at first is a far more rewarding mode to play with giving you full control of what angle you hit an enemy at. You also have a stamina gauge which is used for sprinting anf fighting which brings a little tactical style of play different weapons consume different levels of stamina per swing but you also have a rather handy kick which does not use stamina and has a greater range than some weapons as well as being able to knock down enemies. Each character has a unique fury ability which can be activated when the fury gauge is full and has an experience multiplier to it as well, this ability can be upgraded via the skill tree. The skill tree is not as advanced as wow but the ideas are simply, one tree for the fury skill, one for weapon specialisation and one for general ,survival with the l survival tree skills like extra money and picklocking are the order of the day along with less damage and health regeneration but as for health regeneration in general most automatically consumed except for medkits and alcohol. The game is a lot fun to play and would have got a higher score if certain elements were not so poorly done, no lookback on the truck when driving, some porr collision detection allowing enemies to get through certain areas through walls, no bulk sell option when selling to vendors, the multiplayer promising that people of a similar level could join or be joined, I joined a player who was vl 31 at the time while i was a mere lvl 12 so not easy to bash up enemies although nice xp gain, but the most annoying and criminally bad is the pathetic autosave system. All the other little **** can be forgiven but the autosave is so dire you can't even tell if it is or is not saving even when the autosave logo shows or it says checkpoint so half the time those 3hrs or more you've just spent playing it may count for nowt when you next load up and you end finding yourself at a much earlier part of the game back at lower level. Is it really too much to ask for a manual save option like the Fallout series has or an actual autosave system that is reliable? If Techland do acknowledge this issue then I would happily give the game an 8 or 9 but as it stantds currently its only a 6.

Pretty bog standard shooter nothing truly special at al,l the weapons don't fel like they don't havet any impact at all aiming around feels clumsy using old skool mecanics and an attempt at an 'arcade' fps but lacking any real speed or enjoyment. The nice touches like being able to blow a whole in almost any part of the scenery can't hide the fact that this style of play is very dated and with nothing fresh to truly offer its a case of "looks better in the making of" rather than the finished product.

Dungeon Hunter is a straightforward hack'n slash with ideas utilised from other games like Baldurs Gate, Diablo for the style of play, camera angle and similar skill trees, WOW for the item colours and properties effects, Gauntlet for 4 player co op. This is a fun game to play in single or online although the online side does still need a bit of fixing mainly with some of the bugs in the game like not being able to go through gates if you died before a boss died, bosses glitching out of the screen items not having the stats they display or allowing the use of the item if you have the right requirements at times, not doing the full damage because of the requirement bug and also trying to join friends games can be a pain. The other main gripe is the server refresh and loading times can feel quite long. Bug and glitches aside though this is an entertaining game to play.

MvsC3 is a very bright and brash, slick, fast and even simplified to a degree its appeal is more online than the single player offline mode. That's not to say you should not bother with the single player though Capcom have worked hard to made the AI more challenging on the hardest difficulty, usually on the hardest he game is still relatively easy and un challenging but not this time round, bravo Capcom a more challenging experience awaits. The single player also has missions for all the characters much like the ones found in the SSF4 series, enough to keep you busy for a couple of hours with some devious timings required for some of the tougher missions. Online is an interesting affair once you understand how to start a game the gameplay online works well but be warned if the opponent or yourself has a poor connection the lag is terrible, when characters are at a distance all seems well but get in close and the lag kicks in making it practically unplayable which leaves Capcom something to work on. Cacpom has worked hard to try to bring more people to the series with simplified controls and moves with one button commands allowing even the most ham fisted player a chance to look good,, overall Capcom has made a great game here and the only real competition it will have is its previous outing MvsC2 this is definitely a worthy purchase for any 2D beat em-up fan.

Patience and perseverance... those are the key things to understanding and enjoying this game and if don't have either of those then stop right there and go get an arcade racer like the NFS series or such. Gran Turismo 5's initial opening may seem a bit confusing and long winded to some but it is a hidden metaphor for how much effort is put into the game, its an interesting, different, original if a tad uninspiring most people would have preferred and intro similar to GT3 or GT4 but I guess you can't please everyone. The install process is a very lengthy process for what feels like little improvement in-game loading and installing, the menu systems for controls, audio, gameplay and such do feel a little cumbersome to wade through but once on the GT mode the menus aren't too bad to live with. The big change in this game that has shocked people is the fact that they have to play very differently from how they did in the previous games, you now have to use cars you would never usually drive in a million years which is a bit ingenious for giving the gamer a chance to appreciate all the vehicles that polyphony have taken the time to make. with this in mind you will be using these cars in particular events certain levels beginner, amateur etc, again this is something that people don't like. In terms of winning cars you now only win them once which is a smart idea in that people will now have to work for the money to buy the cars rather than do one race that will give them a fair bit of cash and a car that can be sold for silly money so there is no shortcut to getting certain high performance/racecars this is designed to give a feel of achievement for the fact that you know that you worked hard to get that cash. The same can be said of the leveling up process this is a smart way to stop someone from getting a super fast car and using it to obliterate the AI, also a lot of people claim the AI is terrible but to be honest I don't think it has they do now race with a bit more aggression and will at times cut you up to take the racing line as well as infuriating you on the daytona circuit in particular taking a turn at 230+mph only for the AI to give the slightest of nudges and send you spinning completely out is enough to make the most saintly of people turn the air blue! Another smart idea was making the B spec separate from A spec which means people will have to be to prepared to put in the time if they want to win money without having to really race themselves and the fact that the drivers will get to a point in their prime where they will start to lose their ability means people really do have to work to stay on top with the other drivers they've created once the slots for them become available. This time the second hand cars have a far greater say when it comes to purchasing cars if your after a racecar like the Toyota GT One or Sauber C8 you now need to be looking more than ever in the second hand for these cars whereas in previous games you'd only go into the second hand for the first car you'd own and the limited black edition racercars that featured in GT4 at particular times. the premium car **** are a smart touch and the implement of car damage is interesting to see although it doesn't feel as if there is any real effect unlike NFS Shift where damage would result in the car veering off course or worse, as for the tracks themselves some nice new editions as well remastered old tracks that do feel different in terms of speeds through different turns. Polyphony have really done a number on the Nurburg ring as well its more narrow, uneven where it counts a far greater deal than in the last installment of GT. Its also interesting to see how big a difference it makes when a wheel or 2 come of the track and onto surface that is not tarmac, the wheels can lose grip causing you to find it very tough to maintain control of th car which makes for more challenging times as well as if you accelerate too much on a turn its smart to see that you now have to wrestle to keep control of the car in previous GT's this never felt to be the case. The customisation has been made a lot simpler and smoother than in previous games as well, no more going to the specific dealer for parts and also th racing modifications makes a welcome return granted it is a bit limited in terms of what cars can go through this process but its good to see all the **** conclude this now we'll simply say this, if your someone expecting GT5 to be just like the previous GT's then your in for a very big shock the idea of the game is change and if your not prepared to put in the time and effort than you won't fully appreciate this or find the game worthwhile but for those who do they will find a truly enjoyable and engrossing experience which is more than capable of rivalling other great games for your time

Fallout new vegas is fun and intriguing reinvention of of its predeccesor FO3 set in the Mojave, side quests, main story quests, gambling, caravan, combat, warring factions with different feelings towards you(depending how you are with them), exploration and the revamped traits/perks are all very good. Why only a 7 you might ask? The main reason why it does not warrant an 8-10 is down to the poor QA testing, the same flaws that came up in FO3 when the add-on packs were added like the run/pause/run irritation is back in which makes for a choppy trip. The perpetual crashing at any given point is enough to frustrate even the most patient of players, thankgod for the autosave feature when entering/exiting a room these sort of bugs that bethesda should have learnt to deal with from FO3! not leave these things in and hope for the best other known glitches include reloading after having a limb crippled and ending up limping all over the place even if you went toa doctor and had the limb repaired despite not actually needing it! It are these **** and many others which i don't feel to mention which bring this game down a peg or two, these faults shoud have easily been addressed at the teseting stage even something as blatant as the run/pause/run I can only hope that bethesda hire better QA testers in the future to help protect and improve an impressive, emersive, compelling and compulsive exeperience.

A very solid arcade racer with licensed cars and weapons to take out your opponents, fast and fun with simple controls and competitive play in a neat package. Activision have done well with this keeping it as simple as possible single player, multiplayer, choose between them and play not hard at all. The game has a nice if a little irritating at times fan and lights system, the fans are for doing things like drifting hitting opponents or completely taking them out as well as doing fan demands like going through 12 gates on an outlined route miss a gate and you'lll have to try again on the next lap, as for the light these are awarded for getting in the top 3 positions hitting the target number of fans as well as doing the dan demand which is usually going through the gates. The cars look pretty nice if a bit plain only the rival cars which you can earn by beating them seem to have any kind of decals as for the weapons they are intuitive but at same time can feel a little weak, the 3 bolts stun very slightly just enough to make you miss an item, the lightening domes do very little in terms of slowing down cars like its supposed to and even the mines being fired forward don't have as much an effect as you would like. Howvever the shunt does feel quite meaty sending you opponents flying when sent fowrard or backward and the nitro has a nice tactial use by using it as an airbrake for the tight turns giving you a couple of seconds to straighten up for a hard turn when fired backwards and thne giving a boost forward after very smart idea. As for the race modes basic races are where its best with upto 20 cars on track its pretty fast paced and hectic stuff you can be first with a couple of seconds but get hit by a shunt and that changes very quickly into double figure positions ooh nasty, as for the other modes destruction races are no where near as fun as the name may sound it in ifact one of the most frustrating modes and prbably one of the few reason why you might go down the shops for a new controller! The problem with this mode is that the fan targets for some can soon seem a bit unrealistic and even when you get within 100pts or less of the target it will get to that point where you will say enough is enough and either lob the controller or even stop playing altogether, the premise for the mode is simple use the bolts to destroy cars to extend the time and hit the points target set which is simple enough wreck the other colour cars for more points and time than the regular green cars but then add to this the fan target and fan demand of going through the gates and it soon becomes an annoying retry experience. Aside from this the multiplayer mode is good honest fun and worthwhile for the fact that once you hit rank 50 you can 'legend' which is Blurs version of prestige mode but unlike COD where the only thing you get for reseting your unlocks and progress is different badge emblem you actually get something a little bit more worthwhile you get a legendary car, these cars are better than their standard versions and the idea is to make llife a little simpler and you cand this up to 10 times getting 10 legendary cars in total all good for obliterating the competition. Well done Activision rewarding people for prestiging in Blur, now go do the same with COD!

Online up to 8 players can compete in races with or without weapons, eliminator mode for obliterating one another with the ability to flip and go in the opposite direction of other pilots for tactical effect, zone battle which leaves the open choice of boosting to further reach the zone target and moving a much greater speed or shields to regenerate shields lost from impact as well as temporary shielding from all damage. For the graphics fans among you you'll pleased to know that the game displays in 1080p at 60fps not bad for those with fancy tvs and even better with a 3D tv to boot!

The game isn't terrible but it could have been a whole lot better, weapons although creative made very little difference due to the fact that almost all enemies died instantly from a headshot, lack of story didn't really help " die this" and "die that" they should have worked a bit better on the script. Too short and lacking in variation of enemies, the only other problem the game had was the 2 characters in the story barely had any relationship so players couldn't really feel any connection to the them. Considering that this was joint made by Tecmo and KOEI these 2 should have done better.
