Renegade Ops

In so many ways, on many levels, Renegade Ops is one of the most refreshingly enthusiastic action games of the year.

If you love games about simply blowing up things in a stunning fashion Renegade Ops is unsurpassed. It's only made even better with local co-op for two players, or four players online, where it stands on its own two feet as a modern master class of the genre.

Renegade Ops is an excellent old-fashioned action game.

Incredibly fun and worthy of a multiple playthroughs, Avalanche's latest will hopefully spur other developers to construct similar love letters to arcade gaming's glory days, whether they have a triple-A engine at their disposal or not.

In an age where self-consciously clever design can become an end in itself, there's something reassuring about a game that opts to be so deliciously old-fashioned, yet offers a deceptive amount of depth via well balanced upgrades and a robust scoring system.

Renegade Ops is adequate for what it attempts to be, but it's more conformist than the title suggests.

An entertaining, uncomplicated twin stick shooter (especially played co-op) with responsive controls and the pace never falter for even a moment.

Renegade Ops is a simple, good looking downloadable bundle of fun. Avalanche, the developers of the equally fun Just Cause 2, know that on occasion, video games should be nothing but silly, explosive fun. And that's what Renegade Ops is. It's a top down, dual joystick shooter in which you control a car with guns and you blow **** up. That's about it, and if you can find anything wrong with that, then you shouldn't play it. The only real faults I have with it is it's price, the game is relatively short, with moderately low retail value, but the 5ish hours you will spend with it are a ton of fun. I have also encountered two full, hard freezes right at the end of a level when the game saves, the first time it managed to save the game, but the second time my save was lost and had to replay the level, but that was okay because the game is simply fun. If you have points and not much to play, pick this up, it's a bunch of simple video game fun.
