This game runs great on PC, beautiful graphic upgrade options too. Netplay is 10-fold better than the original game, no longer requiring 3rd party credentials! Get it when it's on sale, steam does it several times a year. I've gotten close to 100 hours on my first playthrough, but I really enjoy doing all the DLC and stuff the first time around.

I came from the original SEGA console release to this, and I am very happy to see a reboot done right! Challenging boss fights and rewarding non-linear secrets, along with classic controls and a beautiful new paint job, big studios should take note: This is how you bring back a classic.

5-hour campaign (on hardest first time through). Less than 200 players online servers. Hackers top charts. Don't waste your time or money this game was apparently dead years ago. There is nothing 'realism' about this game's multiplayer mode, since anyone who's perked+ranked up can run through a clip of AK47 shots to stab you in the face. Perks systems should be destroyed, stupid AAA titles. Get it for $3 or less, if you are really itching for a bland campaign.

And there's STILL STUFF COMING OUT! Sometimes the living story gets kinda boring but this is definitely redefining what good MMO's require. Kudos arenanet.

When you go to apply blockers to your enemy, there is an idle timer of about 2 seconds before it auto-finishes your decision making, with no option to freeze that part of the timer. Then you realize your enemy's 5 attackers' line all overlap so you can't tell which ones in the group are blocked cuz the line is opaque and hard as heck to orient. Then you block the wrong guy because you HAD to pick something before the block phase finishes (on its own with or without you). So you lost a game when you had just finally built up a return army to wipe him on the next turn, because the engine **** and this is just the most recent quirk. Try it yourself, if you play MTG irl, this game is infuriatingly stupid. Nevermind the stupid deck unlock grind, why bother when we gotta re-buy the 2014 version, and the 2015 version, new grinds new grinds. No thank you.

Really great game suffering from a terribly small community, the one full server in the US at night is always stacked full of jerks who park their tanks and trucks in your spawn or the fuel capture point. Neat I guess if you're trying to kill the game for those trying to learn it. I don't see the point of stacking EXP to unlock weapons if no one's left to play with.

I think this game most accurately is a reboot of Tribes: Annihilation, which was the definitive base game community on T1. Great new visuals and a design team that constantly improves maps the players deem 'untribesworthy'. Anyone complaining of the weapon balance is silly, this game has so many variables it's really more of a 'rock paper scissors' and everyone has a weakness. You'll find the best ways to use every weapon. 350 hours and counting, the distance shots only get more gratifying, do yourself a huge favor and try the fastest most beautiful shooter on the market in 2012. And it's f2p, but not pay-2-win. Seek therapy when you start seeing routes to ski among large mountains in your vicinity, or worse, holding the CTRL button on a keyboard that doesn't exist.

Poorly optimized but a good dive into an arena shooter based on CryEngine3. Doesn't even run very well on max settings with 16gb ram, i7 processor and two 2gb ddr3 video cards. That being said it does a decent job of recapturing that old school unreal tournament/quake feel, I am really hoping this game keeps getting better (many updates on pre-release beta but they were required to play really) because its fanbase is pretty small, but for the price if the community gives the seal of approval this could be a great arena to squash petty beef between friends:)

This game is always in the top 10 most played steam games, with about 20,000 players on daily. Next to kings like TF2, CS and Skyrim. Ignore the red reviews and just ask yourself if this is something you could enjoy, BEFORE buying it. 407 positive reviews to 56 negative... And every negative is upset it's like minecraft! They make no secrets about that, it's obvious before purchase. Then it has tons of rad wiring traps and explosives and lighting and rediculous amounts of custom weapons, accessories, combinations, clothes armor and even ammo types. If you don't feel any nostalgia for the 2D era you should acknowledge that before you even consider buying, because it takes an imagination to lose yourself in a platform world with no ending. That being said I'm 70 hours into just building and digging mines, and I couldn't be having more fun. I played minecraft for 5 hours and it has WAY less going on than terraria. 20000 active steam players a day can't be wrong.

This new storyline is dark and inviting. It takes a gritty story to rationalize the ultra brutal manner in which you dispatch your prey. The city is a little dumb in the head but well optimized, similar to sandbox game Just Cause 2, but it almost feels like I'm running around in crazy taxi's engine with the ultra flat textures. Cloak/disguise system is ultra easy but at times quite infuriating. It also makes little sense how I can use the body **** I just killed to enter a secure military site 30 seconds after gutting him in front of the same door staff, I can even shove one of them and he'll salute me despite seeing my head punched off. But hey, ultimately I enjoy this game, it has the same problems as many large-world sandbox games, though its focus is pretty good. The fighting can also be a bit clunky and basic, and explosions may cause rapid framerate flex (I use 16gb ram and a 2gb video card, ultra high end specs) but nothing game breaking, just mildly irritating given that the newest 2011 games can't even force my framerate down. Comes down to pollish I suppose, but seriously, the good outweighs the bad here. The upcoming sequel, I believe, will really help this franchise come into the light, but this one is an above average first installment.

This game has a lot of reviews referring to pre-patch versions, there is a nice array of diverse weaponry now. All have pros and cons. Also several new maps have been added, making the tech demo this game released as a coherent, complete game a year later. It works flawlessly on windows vista and 7, any reports of unplayability on 7 should be long since rectified, unless they run outdated drivers. The graphics are rediculously good even by late 2011 standards, completely AAA sound and video, the only thing this game lacks is an online player base. I play in the PST timezone (california) and there is rarely more than one server of players on after 8-9pm. During the day there are some great matches I just wish there were more going on. They have also added a bot system to make single player practice feasible during multiplayer downtime. They have varying difficulties and aim pretty well, almost too well, but their static objectives kinda remind you you're playing alone.

The design and story are the game's shining points, sadly, because I was hoping for a more involved strategy game. And don't take me lightly when I say it is basic, there is one attack unit type, one unit-carrier, and one builder. It claims lands one per turn which can build an armory for the one attacker type, or a resource gatherer. That's it. The resource gatherers sink the ground and you gotta be the last one alive via stacking resources for cannonfire or attack unit invasion. It gets old really fast. I didn't want it to. I loved the art style and varied factions, most will argue that I'm expecting too much. I just find this level of "strategy" to be primative, even by tower defense or indie "braid" puzzler standards.

This is a re-release of the awesome title originally on dreamcast! Recognize this going in, the graphics are a lot of fun but may not be on par with the more modern stuff. This game was a lot of fun to replay, but BE AWARE OF THIS -- The game cannot exceed 1024x768 resolution, which means most PC gamers will have it horribly stretched on their widescreens or in teeny tiny window mode. I use 1920x1080 and this game was taking up like a corner of the screen, best case scenario to retain its graphic quality, which is enjoyable still. A great title worth porting from an under-appreciated platform, it just should have been reworked to include at least resolution graphics options. HD Sonic is now available in "Generations"! But I wish this was too.

This game has a ton of updates and new free stuff added every couple months. It also has AAA graphics and co-op or single-user game play for the price of an indie puzzle game -- on sale. Lots of replayability on the few maps it comes with, and (though somewhat controversial) the new maps and weapons released as DLC are a lot of fresh fun that I feel are worth the cost. The DLC weapons can be used by you in games that your friends may not have them, which helps keep your load outs unique to eachother, and they're cheap if you ever want to add on. Those complaining of this model are forgetting how much replayable game you are already getting for the base price of 9.99. The extra stuff is just sprinkles and doughnuts. Play it with your friends or alone, it's a great mesh of tower defense and varied, upgradable gunplay. Simply stunning game.

Defense Grid: The Awakening9

From the beginning, beautiful graphics and a fluid camera with depth-changability sets this game up as a step above the rest. Then throw in a diverse array of maps with space for tons of different strategic design ideas, about 10 turrets with upgrades reflected in design and projectile type, and you've got a great single player campaign. The voice acting is a 6 or 7, about as good as any modern AAA title gets, but the coherence of the story is about an 8.5, and the voice isn't at all what ends up carrying it. About a dozen maps, then DLC that is cheap and offers infinitely unique new options and maps, ie, the open square designed level with two entrances and one exit. This game is still receiving updates and it's been pretty bug free from the start, no crashes or freezes for me, over 80 hours on two pcs. The campaign and DLC now also have CHALLENGE modes which are true to their title, and I'm having all kinds of fun finding out how un-pro all the tactics I barely **** by with before ended up being. The better to think new solutions! It is the essence of strategy gaming, and this game is implemented very well with lots of content and plenty of replay value, some of the best I've seen from a single player indie/strategy title, and definitely the best tower defense game I've ever played this long.

Railworks 3: Train Simulator 20126
Nov 29, 2011
This game has an old engine and the graphics are a bit outdated, but they release lots of DLC, update often, and the train physics are quite good. Then again, DLC gets pricey but for train lovers who find exactly what they want (I live near the sierras as portrayed in donner pass dlc) it seems to be worth it. If they're still developing and releasing stuff I think it's safe to say this game has a fan base regardless of the sillies who don't even know what it's about. Guy who gave (McF) this a zero expects his train simulator to include wings and a jet engine, oh and a plane simulator too? Trains have rails. Don't try simulators if you don't have any clue what they entail. Nevermind the DLC price, you bought this game for the wrong reasons. Or didn't at all. I'd give it a 10 to counteract but that's almost as dumb as giving a game a 0 because one goes into it blindly. It's not perfect, but it delivers exactly what train fans want, if not a little poorly textured.

I enjoy the premise and design for this game, but that's about where it ends. The game crashes on almost ANY pc close to several times an hour. Tried on 3 different PCs, all high end nvidia or ati beasts, vista/7/xp doesn't matter. Clicking an NPC twice shouldn't freeze ANY game. That being said I really wanted to enjoy this game, bought the GOTY including all DLC and haven't been able to get more than an hour out of the story. It simply crashes too much in the open world. This game is by no means perfect, but it is great for a f2p title. Many lag and bug issues have been resolved since beta and sub versions, and though many remain, the dev team hirez is pretty well dedicated to resolving them on a regular basis. They just opened the micro pay system which isn't very elaborate yet, but they are clearly trying to figure out a lean model by which to start seeing profits for further dev of this and the studio's tribes reboot. Most importantly, it is not pay to win. Cash can be spent to speed up leveling a bit, or for visual flair. The game has a lot of options, though not a lot of visual variety (or rare flair yet, but give them time to cycle new stuff in) and a few different builds for each class which one can experiment with. Aside from co op pve and pvp modes, most often overlook the SOLO PVE mode, which is hugely challenging in the upper levels. Don't listen to any of the straight negative reviews on here, all the red ones are trolls and people who gave the game 20 minutes and gave up cuz they are f2p 'gurus' or something. Expect bugs, it's still being updated. Expect a real challenge, and a co-op that requires your teammates to play well. Ignore the random parties, and make some friends, it will make all the difference. If you all play your roles as teammates correctly the payoff is a much faster, efficient and less deadly mission series ripe with diverse mob spawns and industrial crushing devices. Honestly give this game a try, the total tally is 241 positive to 36 negative user reviews. Trust the ones who put in 200 hours and love it. This game is the business.

This game is excellent, more diversity than starcraft, more unique tech trees per race, and overview mode / rotating / zooming camera elements make this game FAR BETTER than the average user may rate. 90% of the negatives are SC1 fanboys, I've never played it. Judging this game OBJECTIVELY (which none of them seem to want to) yields the following facts: 1 The AI is vastly superior to starcraft's, not to mention fully customizable. 2 Alliances are set before match, so you won't have any idiot backstabbers at the end. 3 All AI and players can be grouped in any team, making teams complete with AI, players, or both. 4 The graphics are decent. 5 The campaign is pretty much a lengthy tutorial, but is not without it's merit. BOTTOM LINE? EXCELLENT GAME! Lots of online fun to be had, and while lacking a **** style interface, there are plenty of players willing to make friends! Give this game a try and you will love it if you love RTS, but if you are a fanboy of the first one? Well, you probably already committed to hating this. And the subsequent < 4 score is probably already here. Your loss.

You dont run 20 feet/second, no crosshairs... This game is brutal, and atmospheric, very heavy air and expertly crafted levels continue to be released with achievements several times a year. Tripwire is an amazing game company, their attention to patches and DLC has created a gigantic online following, way bigger than most games which have metascores in the 80s and 90s. This one's 72 has managed to create better online players than the l4d series, more custom maps, and mods. If you want a survival horror game that moves like it should, give this game a try. Well designed and adequately polished to at least warrant it's price tag, but like so many games, full of a wretched, unfriendly, unhelpful and childish community screaming "umadbrah?!?!" Latency is good but guns seem to move pretty sloppily, even when fine tuned DPI-wise. Oh well, if you think TF2 moves too fast and lacks gravity, this is a much slower cousin, though I think we always hoped for something more in the middle. Cuz only 2 classes move quickly. And jump boosters last only a couple seconds so they aren't too useful. Co-op mode is pretty boring, if you can find an unstacked server (i've seen about 2 even matches in roughly 30) the vs mode can be pretty entertaining. Needs some balance patches to remove assassins instant kill button, but really, most games have some OP problems at release, time will tell if they show love for this game and improve it, or if they're done now that they've finally moved this 8 month old xbox game to PC port.

This game is too much fun. Rediculously good graphics, pimped out for PC, and comes with free DLC if you get it through steam. I've got 50 hours of gameplay and I'm only 39% done, only on the 4th game mission, because the islands of panau are GIGANTIC. you will have tons of fun retaking the hundreds of villages, districts and military installations from the corrupt government, who even cares about the story quests? haha. it can seem repetitive at times, but the close to 200 vehicles available and the great grappling hook mechanics keep it from being tedious. The heat AI is a little dumb, eg: if you manage to run out the gauge, say, right before a truck full of policia crashes into you, they'll have completely forgotten that you're the guy they were furiously chasing 2 seconds earlier. Kinda messes up the immersion, but the gunfight AI is pretty decent and helps draw you in to each little destruction operation, as do the day/night cycles and the random rainstorms etc. Long story short, this game is excellent, give it a try as it becomes less than ten dollars when it's on sale, and it was clearly paid a lot of care in ensuring your enjoyment. I've never had a single player game outside of MMORPGS that gave me so many hours of fun. And I own some 100+ high end PC titles.

First of all, this game refused to produce any sound or sound options with Creative XFI Xtreme PCI card. Several emails to their support team yielded only simple ideas for fixes, and ultimately they said "oh well, we don't know so... we'll look into it" which really just meant the game I bought would never have sound on my high end PC. The physics and controls are intuitive and fairly fun, and nicely styled graphics to boot. A game you pay for should really receive complete support, as this XNL engine-based game is the ONLY game in the last 10 years I've had this problem with. Played this game twice through story mode, and once with the pc add-on marauders campaign, and it is an excellent piece of work! This is more like "GTA with WAY MORE cool stuff to do". Though it can get a little difficult to continually push back their attacks, should you set off too many alarms. Really nice FOV blurring, totally immerses you in your firefights from small to large scale. If you go exploring at night, expect to be ambushed by marauders! But they have their own unique weapons, so it's worth it. They also control a large piece of desert to the southeast on the map, which is worth exploring in detail once the story provides time. Bottom line, this game is easy on your gpu, is very well polished and optimized AND comes with an extra marauder campaign for when you finish the primary! Steam has had it on sale 3 times, I paid 10 bucks for it and was well worth the 40+ hours spent on it. Now it's on sale for 5, I hope many more people realize this game's greatness.

GRID (2008)10
Oct 22, 2010
Every RED rated review for GRID suffers from the same problem: Their own bad driving. The physics are great, The AI tries to finesse their turning when in close proximity to you or others, giving a small amount of intelligence to them. They don't want to be hit! People say there needs to be a 'speed limit' so one doesn't go flying into walls? These cars are equipped with both standard brakes and an emergency brake, and the ability to NOT floor the gas at all times. Try it. Once you ease up on the throttle a little and practice your braking, it gets easy to dominate the simple circuit, but fret not, raising the difficulty will provide plenty of new challenges. This is the street version of DiRT 2, and when people say it should be "like dirt", they should take note that it is by the same publisher and pretty much a clone of DiRT2's engine with a fresh set of textures and no truck/buggy racing. What this game gives up in diversity of vehicle class, it makes up for with beautiful, fun tracks, and rewarding, precision driving.

Battlefield: Bad Company 26
Oct 1, 2010
This game has great graphics, and a fun, albeit short, single player campaign. That guy saying 2-3k computer is foolish, he has 256mb video card. I use 4gb ram and a radeon hd4850 (1024mb ddr2) in 1920x1080 widescreen resolution, max everything, no framerate loss. I do warn those who attempt to play wireless, this game is one of the worst optimized for your situation, strongly consider dedicated cable. The multiplayer shows a lot of promise, however, there is a very steep frustration curve you need to get past. And that is because even by the 2nd week of release, there were hundreds of people lvl 30s 40s and 50s, who can basically run straight at you and take a full clip of XMB without even dying, and still knife you while you're reloading. To show timeframe commitment, I spent 6 hours one day and I only achieved 60% from lvl 2 to 3. Think about the hundreds of hours you must invest to get the sweet perks these people with seemingly infinite free time have. Aside from this, the multiplayer is full of kids under 15, who have the option to freely SWAP TEAMS whenever they want. So if they aren't happy losing, they can join the other team and destroy those with enough integrity to stick it out -- Horrible design in this regard, no public kick option (IE majority votekick), so when you finally find a beginner server with "Lvl 25 and under", it will surely be packed with people lvl 40+ who are just farming kills, and unless there's an admin around (never seen one in 20 hours), he won't be removed. And since EXP is gained 10fold by the winning team, good luck finding enough quality teammates willing to stick it out and not ditch to the other side. Apparently there is some great honor to be achieved by playing like a complete chump. Longevity will be determined by the community's ability to adopt new players without ruining the experience for them. It's dominated by children though, not surprising that they ignore this forsight. Good luck finding even one mature person in these servers. So if you have a job, or a life, you will probably not find time to dominate the 9th grade arena that is BC2-online, but it will definitely be getting some sale time on steam in the future, and it might be worth the sale price just to enjoy the campaign.
