Probably wildly inaccurate and exaggerated in places, as is with most Hollywood re-imaginings of real controversial timelines. But, Eisenberg is as brilliant as ever, and the rest of the cast are decently solid. A good mix of humour, drama and interesting subject matter. A brilliantly made film.

The Hangover Part II5
Sep 8, 2011
Having seen the reviews beforehand, I was expecting the EXACT same movie in a different setting. But, actually, it's not all that bad. Sure, the template is virtually the same, but that's often what a sequel is. However, there are some darker and still unique differences. The simple criticism is, it's just not that funny.

The Hangover8

This is a fun, all be it overrated, adventure comedy. Zach Galifinakis provides most of the hilarity, and Ken Jeong is amusing but sometimes cringeworthy. The plot is clever, the writing is sharp, and the characters are loveable. It's a fun ride.

Final Destination 35
Sep 4, 2011
The franchise is getting a little tiresome by this point. Scream queen Mary Winstead does a passable job as the lead (but go see her in Scott Pilgrim, that's much better), but after a while the film gets a little too predictable and a lot less interesting.

Final Destination 54

An often ridiculous film, as the Final Destination franchise usually is. The opening bridge collapse sequence wasn't as amazing as it could have been, unlike the rather fun motorway pile-up in Final Destination 2. Possibly the weakest of the group.

As usual with Ferrell/McKay productions, there are scenes that you can tell are obviously full of improvised dialogue. This may not be one of Ferrell's best, but it's certainly very funny. It is rude, bizarre, and the best cop action parody since Hot Fuzz. Mark Wahlberg also impresses with his comedic turn.

Excellent feature-length debut from my comedy hero, Chris Morris. It's situations are hilarious, and it's jam-packed with quotable lines. Kayvan Novak and Nigel Lindsay provide the memorable performances. And, despite it's premise, it is probably one of Morris's most accessible and least offensive productions.

The X Files5
Sep 4, 2011
As a huge X-Files fan, I found the movie only okay. I could name several episodes that were much more entertaining than this film. Not to say that there are some great moments, but few and far between.

The X Files: I Want to Believe3
Sep 4, 2011
After years off our screens, Mulder and Scully returned for an extended mystery. The result...boring. The final couple of X-Files seasons were pretty poor, and a few years away clearly hadn't done the franchise any good.

Paranormal Activity 25
Sep 4, 2011
Despite the poor reviews this sequel received, I actually thought it was okay. It tried to be the first film, but bigger. The ending disappointed me, and some of the sequences were pretty repetitive. The poor reviews, however, are understandable. Once you've seen the first instalment, the novelty of the franchise can somewhat wear off.

I'm not a big fan of the horror genre, but this film intrigued me, so I had to give it a watch. The film builds suspense almost perfectly, and the low budget doesn't make it tacky in any way. A frighteningly uncomfortable and chilling feature, just what it wanted to achieve.

Horrible Bosses6
Sep 4, 2011
Generally, a better movie than I was expecting. Jennifer Aniston plays a shockingly sexual role, and the three main characters are likeable enough that you're interested to see where their stupid scheme takes them. Some of the jokes don't land so well, but it is worth a watch.

I was disappointed, to be honest. The film has few good moments, and I personally couldn't follow the plot due to a simple lack of interest in the characters.

A more dramatic turn from Judd Apatow sees Adam Sandler playing what is essentially an exaggerated version of himself. The performances are great, and it's one of the few films which I can happily sit through despite its huge run time.

This is a strange movie. Regular fans of Seth Rogen movies will either love it because of him, or be disturbed by his dark turn in this one. Playing a sociopathic, bipolar mall guard, it serves as an adult alternative to Kevin James's similar premise family comedy, Paul Blart: Mall Cop. All in all, I found myself bemused more than amused by the whole thing, and the as the end credits rolled in front of my eyes, I thought "what the **** did I just witness?"

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 26
Sep 4, 2011
This is the only Harry Potter book I have not read, so I saw these final two instalments with no idea what to expect. The result, was fairly disappointing, despite a fantastic sequence involving Snape. It all seemed a bit too muddled around, and it didn't feel as epic as it could have been. As for the ending, well, it was never going to be easy to transfer what happens onto the big screen, and they did an okay job of it, but it's still pretty stupid.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World10
Sep 4, 2011
This is one of my all-time favourite films. Any criticism attributed to this film is just unacceptable, because it's a fast-paced, funny, adventurous movie. Pretty much every single character gives a razor-sharp performance, even if they have just two lines. Michael Cera proves his comedic brilliance once more, Jason Schwartzman (apparently the nicest man in the world, according to others) shows how well he can be an evil bastard, and great comedy turns from Chris Evans and Brandon Routh are the icing on the cake.

Epic Movie1

Probably the best film Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer have ever written. But, still, it's utterly terrible. The humour is cheap - not in a good way - and the performances are simply lame. How could it possibly get worse from there? Well, just check out every film they've written since this one.

This film is the perfect romantic comedy-drama. After hundreds of formulaic romcoms, with poor acting, and poor scriptwriting, a film comes along that's sweet, funny, a little sour in places, clever and wonderfully performed. If you only watch one romcom in your life, this is the one.
