Cat Quest II: The Lupus Empire8
Feb 24, 2024
A great sequel with more fun, charm and story. Now a friend can jump in to the fun on the fly and lend a helping hand. After playing this one, I can't wait for the third game to hit the market!

One of the most charming RPGs I've played in a long time. Simple gameplay. A metric ton of cat puns and a vast colorful world to explore. A pleasant surprise with a reasonable price tag

Simple yet extremely fun. The weapons pack a punch and enemies solid and plentiful. Friendly fire cannot be turned off and it makes the game better. Do yourself (and your family) a favor and deliver some democracy and freedom today.

This game is a reskinned mashup of Skyrim and Fallout 4, which never reaches the fun or charm of either one. Surface travel is awful. You have to walk everywhere. Within an hour of starting you’ll be using the quick travel as much as you can to avoid the endless walking. This game is full of bugs. Enemies can fall into buildings and terrain. Eventually they will die, eliminating some of the quest breaking from previous games. Bodies fall into the terrain and exploding jet packs will commonly cause bodies to stick to the first surface they touch. Usually this is the ceiling which prevents looting. Cutscenes are a mess. I don’t think I saw one that wasn’t bugged in some way. The AI in this game is so dumb. It will either charge straight ahead into your bullets or find the nearest cover and stay there no matter what’s thrown at it. The inventory “system” is terrible. The game only allows you to have one inventory open at a time. A huge downgrade from previous games. Trying to organize containers, buy and sell at vendors and trading with companions is a pain in the ass! There is never enough space to carry the needed supplies to build your first outposts, so the first few are dozens of trips back and forth. There is no outpost inventory system! Everything just gets dumped into huge containers. What resources are you getting low on? Get ready to check every container and manually keep track of everything on paper. No matter your play style, everything is locked behind 12 or more levels of skills in the skill trees. Every time I wanted a change of pace, I was faced with grinding levels to unlock the skills required. Even just exploring planets requires 8 levels of skill points just so you don’t get hypothermia, radiation damage or burns. Why so many status effects? Why are they so easy to acquire? Why doesn’t my spacesuit protect me from any of them including gasses? My inventory has more medical supplies to treat these than anything else. Ships are sad boxes that the game uses to try to hide some of the quick travel. The ship builder is garbage. Most of the time the internals are turned into a maze of ladders and dead ends and there is no way to check before completing your build. Ship battles are a joke. Most of the time you will be outnumbered and will be hammered into dust. The only way to win is to pour skill points into the tree and buy better ship mods which also requires you to pour in more skill points. NPC visuals range from okay to ugly. All of them are still afflicted with puppet mouth and glassy eyes. It’s so distracting and last gen. Levelling is the worst paced of any Bethesda game. Side quests take about 10 minutes each to complete and grant 100 XP. Going to a planet with abundant fauna and popping large herds of them grants 18 – 140 XP per kill in seconds at the cost of a few bullets. Why bother spending hours doing quests when you can rack up to 5 levels in an hour killing wildlife? Especially when it requires so many skill points to do anything interesting. Thankfully I started my free Game Pass Ultimate sub so I didn't have to pay anything to play this "game". I also won't resub for that when it expires tomorrow.

Diablo IV2

So much hype. The sad fact of the matter is this game is just not fun to play. Usually with a Blizzard game when the servers go down I wait until they come back up. With Diablo 4 I just go find something else to do. My first character is only level 30 and I'm bored. In game shops have over priced junk that you'll replace in the next 5 minutes. The gear crafting system is gone. The story is dull. (Why do I have to ask permission to fight the big bad threatening the world??) Going anywhere in the world is a slog. Does anyone really want to take 20 minutes smashing hordes of damage sponges just to click some stupid tablet to hear useless rambling? There is some character customization but no matter what I select it's just unsatisfying. In game gear is hideous (at least for the mage). Level 30 "legendary" gear still looks like peasant rags. There seem to be a lot of spells and abilities to play with. Unfortunately, you have to pay to respec every time you want to try something new. This discourages me from trying to find a build that I'll have fun with because if you die it's 10% durability and about 10% of your money pool to repair it. Combat is just bad. Why is there a cooldown on the dodge button?? I have to keep dropping my AOE spells on bosses because I'm too busy running around avoiding the junk that the boss is throwing around. This makes for super long, drawn out battles, that end in drops that are worse than the gear I had heading into the fight. Why is this thing on-line only? I can't even pause the game to answer the phone, the door or grab something to eat. Why can't I start my own game and invite people I want to play with? This game is a mess with little or no redeeming qualities. I would NOT recommend it to anyone.

Solid controls, interesting world, challenging enemies, tons of atmospheric ruined bases and wide open spaces to explore. I usually don't care for a female protagonist but this one breaks the mould. Far better than Far Cry: Primal.

This game is beautiful. Mountains of detail were put into the world. This is where the entire effort of the studio went. The controls are clunky. Sometimes switching buttons to do the same action. Getting your character to move faster than a walk is a pain. The enemy AI is a joke. A lot of times they run right into the line of fire and get mowed down. Sometimes they just run back and forth in the open or run to cover then back to where they started. Accidentally bumping into somebody on the street starts a fist fight almost every time. The characters that you interact with are so close to cardboard cutouts I can't remember any of their names. The quests are so boring. Bounties sound like fun until you try some. You could almost spit on most of them from the sheriff's office. Chase this guy and stop him from getting away seems to be the majority of quest objectives. I doubt I will bother finishing the game.

Gauntlet (2014)4
Sep 29, 2015
This game misses the "Gauntlet" mark by a long way. Where is the maze that you and your friends are supposed to figure out? This game is plowing through one screen full of enemies after another in a straight line. Should we explore this way? No because there is only one way to go. Why are wizard and elf the only ones with ranged attacks all of a sudden? The new powers and abilities might be cool but the game just drops you in and doesn't explain anything about how the game works. Since I downloaded the game and there's no documentation that's unforgivable. The four hit health bar is stupid. Bring back the old health system. I'm super glad I got this on sale because it's really ugly. There is some skin customization but they're not very noticeable in game. All of the trophies seem to be for poor playing style or just grinding through for weeks and weeks. Destroy x number of food. Die this many times. Take this much damage. Basically what I'm trying to get across is this: If you're buying this game because you see Gauntlet in the title, turn around now because this isn't even a shadow of even the worst one that came before it.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception9

I'm still wondering how they keep making these games and improving on them. Looking into the background I kept admiring the scenery and wanted to go explore it. Then I discovered that it wasn't just the background. You actually get to explore every inch of the amazing locales you visit.

I didn't think they could follow up the first game but this one has an even larger scope. Multiplayer wasn't needed in this title however. The world is immersive with new locales and mysteries and great characters that I never want to see go away. They have wrung out every ounce of power out of the PS3 and result is incredible. A must have if you enjoy this style of game.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune9

This is the best action adventure game I have played in so long. The game is absolutely beautiful. Huge outdoor areas, great puzzles to solve and the most engaging story and characters I have experienced in a game so far. Drake's triumphs are yours to enjoy and when you fail it's disappointing but the game is so great you'll get back up and try until you perfect it.

The failings of the PC version removed. That was a great start. Addition of support for 4 players on one console was the best idea they made with this title. Graphics are great even on my 60". I kind of ignored the story after act 2 because it's pretty basic.

Total War: Shogun 28

Amazing detail in everything that happens on the battlefield. The game is paced a little too realistically though. Just when my lords are getting really great they get too old to fight and need to be replaced. In fact the real annoyance with this game is it follows the historical timeline too closely. The combat is solid and strategies usually pan out if you plan them well.

Solid and balanced game play. Great campaign. Tons of 40k flavour. Only four races though so not a lot of options for multiplayer unless you buy the expansions. It also would've been nice to see a branch of the campaign focus on something other that space marines.

Call of Duty: Ghosts4

This game is about as fun as watching grass grow. Level design and story are so bland that I don't care if any of the characters survive or even if the generic "bad guys" win. Slow motion events that have no bearing on what happens next. Really annoying when you nail the quicktime event first try and you still get your ass handed to you. Regenerating health so you never need to slow down or think about how to approach the situation. Just plow right down the middle making sure you don't get too far away from your team mates or it's instant death. Enemies take dozens of bullets and maintain their accuracy but you get hit once and your aim flies around like you're getting hit with wrecking balls. Weapons all seemed to preform exactly the same. Sad.

Come on Bethesda you can find better than this to publish. Horrible 80s style kung fu movie dialog with voice acting just as terrible. Lack luster gameplay. Burning bodies with matches when there's a huge bonfire 2 feet away?? No scares and no surprises. Pass on this turkey.

This is not an MMO. They just tagged Bungie with MMO for hype. This game is not Borderlands or even close to that caliber. This game isn't even as fun as HALO. There is no economy, no community, no guilds, no crafting, no enemy AI, no story and worst of all no imagination. Typical Bungie 4 different enemies sometimes with different colors. Is anyone ever fooled by replacing variety with a color change? The tower is the most bland and boring place to ever be created. Let's dump a truck load of fetch/collect quests and defend your stupid floating companion into the mix. Your character seems slow. Lame weapons that pack no punch. Generic armor. Unpolished controls. Especially when having to hit two buttons simultaneously. Brown wasteland for Russia with a rusty plane copied and pasted all over the map. Same with the rusty truck. Grey wasteland for the moon. Gravity on the moon is suddenly the same as earth. Again objects copied and pasted over and over. The same cave for every mission in each area even though it's supposed to be a different mission in a different area of the map. It feels like an alpha build that they tossed out to bank roll some cash off the hype. Garbage. Do not waste your time or money on this lemon. I already wasted 23 hours of my life.

Dungeon Keeper (2014)0
Feb 16, 2014
Complete garbage! This is everything that's wrong with gaming today (except regenerating health in shooters). Another facebook style pay click one button wait for 6 hours then pay and click another button. I gave it an honest try but quickly ran into my first micro transaction that I couldn't avoid if I was going to continue. I needed to upgrade my dungeon heart. It required 100K stone. My quarry cap was 36.8k (which can't be increased until my dungeon heart was upgraded). So the game pops up a very helpful window that says you can pay the balance with gems instead and oh by the way this is how much they cost in real money.
