The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power4
Sep 29, 2022
This American Galadriel can't hold a candle to Tolkien's version. This one represents resentment and entitlement; while the other personified sympathy, conservation and the type of perspective that only a loving demi-god (animist, perhaps) might have. The amazon show is SPIRITUALLY BANKRUPT, and so was the Wheel of Time series they made because materialism is akin to nihilism; and the production staff are lost in the throes of self-interest. They're wading through the mire of modern industry, using software tools as their crutch: not one of them capable of creating art.

Andor9

Andor doesn't mind taking its time, which works well for the show. Excellent worldbuilding is obtained through a combination **** ensemble cast, and style reminiscent of great films like 'in bruges' and 'tinker tailor'. One scene, in which a senator gets into her vehicle and opens her coat for some air, communicates her vulnerability masterfully. In an age where shows hit you over the head with dialogue and explain everything explicitly, this is a salve to my SW fan's soul.

Obi-Wan Kenobi7

I wrote this review 3 episodes in. This is an interesting show that does a lot of things right. There are hints of the rebellion, a great sense of life under the Emperor, and very cool use of the Vader character. Some negatives are amateurish chase scenes, hints of ep9's emasculation of the Jedi (I'm almost waiting for Obi to drink blue milk from the teat) and a lack of tension beyond the titular character.

The Wheel of Time5

It's difficult to understand how one could mangle the themes and plot of this show so badly when there is a wealth of source material available as well as exhaustive online copy to reference. There's also inconsistent editing, but ultimately it's the writing mis-steps that bothered me the most.

Love, Death & Robots: Season 19

Quality varies between pieces, though the overall standard is high. Plot twists abound and the visual flash fiction format is extremely well realised. The third episode, for me, catapulted my view of the show significantly. It presented itself as animated crafts on top of a cyberpunk-seedy version of Hong Kong, where the journey of the main characters culminate in a philosophical statement -'the cycle of exploitation continues, involving anyone swept up in it'. It communicated this through effective action, simple desire and a careful balance of foretelling and revelation, while the art style gave my mind sufficient interest to parallel-process. The result was a very engaging experience that married emotional response and thought; I found it extremely well-done.

Star Trek: Discovery: Season 110

Interesting, flashy and well made show that I'm looking forward to getting in to. Sad that it's being review-bombed by trolls that don't know how to be open minded.
