Rhythm Heaven Megamix10
Jun 22, 2016
As soon as I heard the new Rhythm Heaven was out, I just had to download it. I don't regret buying it. It is an amazing rhythm game with catchy music as well. When you first start playing it, it feels really short and easy. Which is great for those who are new to the series, but if you're experienced with rhythm games then the beginning will feel a tad slow. As you get further, you will unlock more songs that slowly increase in difficulty. Towards the end there were some songs I wanted to retry just to get the hang of it. Thankfully it never felt too hard, but were a decent challenge near the end. As you play each song, you earn coins to spend on little trinkets. So when you find that song you really enjoy, you can spend coins to just buy the music with in game coins! Listen to your favorite songs as much as you like. You can also play locally with a friend through wireless play. It's even more enjoyable when playing with friends. You can do this to earn a different kind of currency to buy more songs to play with. You can also do it solo if you want. In short, if you really enjoy rhythm games then I suggest getting this game. The colorful characters and great music make a wonderful combination. I love this game!

Please keep in mind that I do not have internet capable of online gaming. The game says that online play is optional. It may have well said that it is required as what is available offline is very limited and completely awful. Tutorial to start with teaches you mechanics of the game which seem pretty cool. However for the most part they are useless. One of the most useless mechanics is the ability to take cover behind walls. You are fighting zombies, ZOMBIES! They don't shoot you at all. What exactly are you taking cover from? Another is the melee weapon known as the Brainer. Game says it's a powerful weapon, however meleeing a zombie with just the butt of your gun kills them in one hit anyway. No point in using a slow melee weapon that does the same thing. You are also able to crouch and lie down to be more sneaky. There is no stealth, zombies notice you as long as you are near. There is also something known as a Jammer that prevents the zombies from noticing you. However it is only introduced in the tutorial, other than that it is never used. The offline mode known as "The Experiment" is a series of very repetitive and boring missions. Kill zombies again and again and again. Normally I love killing zombies and blowing them to pieces, but the play style and clunky controls ruin it. Also it shows what loadout you will be using in the mission. No idea why it shows you this as you can never customize it. As you play through The Experiment, you will unlock things that can only be used online. Other than that there is no progression or any sense of accomplishment. In short, if you can't play online do not bother buying this game. There are no bots and the online play being optional is pretty much false advertising. I saw the game I wanted to play and it basically said you can do so without internet. It is garbage.

Final Fantasy Explorers8
Feb 9, 2016
I know a little about the Final Fantasy series, but I love the Monster Hunter series. Together it's an interesting mix that keeps it fun. However the game feels incomplete, as if it were rushed and things weren't fixed before releasing it. The reason for it feeling incomplete is several things. One is that some abilities do not do what they say, so they either didn't add it in or it's a translation error. Some attacks are impossible to avoid unless you leave the area, it's as if they didn't keep in mind that the player needs to be able to dodge to not take damage. Only a few jobs are actually capable of taking zero damage with abilities. The others have no way of avoiding attacks other than simply running around. The jobs are a neat addition. Being able to pick a role and learn abilities based on that. So if you wanna be a healer, just be white mage and you will excel at it. However some of the jobs are obviously far better than any other. I've been Knight through a large majority of the game and it's easy to defeat anything you face. Any other job, and it's far too hard. The boss like creatures you face all have some kind of move that is annoyingly powerful. A few however feel absolutely impossible to avoid unless you are Knight, in which case you can simply block it and take no damage. There is also no button to simply roll like there is in the Monster Hunter games. So the only way to dodge is to run around and hope you don't get it. The item drop system is basically the same, you fight something and hope it drops the item you need. It feels way harder to get the item you need in this game though. I fought the same monster over 20 times and didn't get the item I needed. There is however only three pieces of armor to equip instead of the usual five. So I suppose less farming is required in order to make the set you want. Having monsters on your team is really cool. They feel far more powerful than any ally you get in the Monster Hunter games. While they are stronger, they also feel incredibly stupid. If you fight at long range, the ally monsters will simply follow you and do nothing. They only attack once you stop moving a few feet from the creature you are battling. They never realize that you are attacking something, so they just stare at you. There are some pretty good things though that the Monster Hunter games have never provided. One thing is being there is a health gauge above every enemy you face. So no more wondering how much damage you are doing, as it shows a number of damage as well. Same with the boss monsters, they too have a health gauge. If you require multiple of an item for that awesome armor set you've been wanting, just look in your notebook. If you've found the item at least once, it will tell you if you have to gather at certain points or defeat certain monsters. The notebook even has a list of the monsters you've fought and where to find them. So the game is very helpful if you want to find a specific thing. It's just not so helpful when you need to find a super rare item and you can't figure out what drops it. Quests can be a total pain at times. Some can actually be impossible and I'm not exaggerating. You may get a quest to find a specific item by specific enemies. They may never drop it and then you are pretty much forced to abandon quest as they don't respawn. Overall, the game is pretty fun despite having many frustrating problems. Early on these issues may not be so noticeable. But the game is still very enjoyable and I feel it's worth picking up. Even more so if you have friends to play it with. Teaming up with a buddy is always a good time.

First of all, don't believe all the negative reviews saying that the full game is over 130 dollars. First day DLC is purely cosmetic and doesn't affect gameplay at all. You don't have to buy any of it, no one is making you buy it. No need throw a tantrum just because you don't have a blue gun. Maps and game modes are all going to be free. I've been watching this game for over a year, waiting for its release. I've never been more hyped for a game and I simply love it. I've only played this game offline due to my bad internet, so keep this in mind. Every mode that can be played online can be played offline with bots, which I just love. I would love it if more games had bots. So this is a rare treat for me. Teams consist of 4 hunters and 1 monster. You can play as whichever side you want and no matter who you use, no one feels too strong or too weak. This game does very well with balancing things out. Both sides are a blast to play as in my opinion. Modes are few in number. There is only 5 game modes to choose from. Hunt, Rescue, Nest, Defend and then there is Evacuation mode, which uses all four of those. So things can get repetitive after a short while. But if you enjoy playing these modes, then that shouldn't be a problem. The AI is pretty smart. If they are the hunters, they will use their class skill at appropriate times and the medic will keep you healed up (or the enemy if you are the monster). They stick together like a team and coordinate well. But it never feels like they are cheating or have an unfair advantage due to being bots. They do make mistakes at times and wander into traps or mistakenly use a skill on the Wraith's decoy. When the AI is the monster, it provides a decent challenge most of the time. It will attack those that seem to be more of a threat or run if it feels it's in danger. There have been a few times where the hunter AI would just flat out die from the wildlife before I even got them when playing as the monster. So they aren't perfect, but they are usually pretty smart. Controls are a bit different, it took me a few matches to get the hang of, but once you do it is pretty smooth and works very well. Playing as the monster doesn't feel wonky or weird, just different is all. But different in a good way. It's easy to jump around, climb walls and unleash attacks on the hunters. Graphics are quite impressive and always pleasant to look at. However some of the maps feel a bit small and make it a bit harder to hide as the monster. Overall the game is really fun for those that enjoy the action of multiplayer type games. If you don't have good internet, don't worry about it. The game has bots for every game mode so you can still enjoy it. Modes will get repetitive after a short while. Graphics are nice and so is gameplay. Controls are a bit odd at first, but there are tutorials to get you going. Definitely worth picking up.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate9
Jun 6, 2015
I've been a fan of the Monster Hunter series since Freedom Unite (although that one is my least favorite). Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate improves on everything. Beginning is a little slow and boring but tells you how to do the basics. While it does tell you how to get started, it doesn't go into great detail. An example is cooking meat, it tells you to use an item to cook it, but doesn't tell you how to cook it properly. If you are an experienced Monster Hunter player, this should be no problem. Weapon choice plays an important part as it always has in the series. If you are fighting a fast monster, you don't want to use a big cumbersome weapon. There are also two new weapons, the Insect Glaive and Charge Blade. Every weapon has a good variety of attacks and keeps things interesting. Armor is also important. Making armor from defeated monsters always feels so satisfying and rewarding. (same goes for weapons) Armor gives different skills to help in battle and I always find these to be really cool. Monster fights can get repetitive but that's what Monster Hunter is all about. Grinding monsters so that you can make that gear you've been wanting. There is a wide variety of monsters to fight and some returning from Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I will admit that some monsters can be a real pain, constantly stun locking your guy and spamming the same move again and again. Movement has been improved. Before you could only climb up certain walls, but now you can scale most walls you see. You can even jump on and mount the monster, latching on to inflict more damage! Underwater combat has been removed which I find to be a great relief. Story is kinda meh, hasn't really been its strong point. I think it's just there so you don't get totally bored. It's all about taking down large monsters, the story is just kinda there. Multiplayer is what brings out most of the fun in it, so if you've got a friend nearby that has it or a good internet connection, be sure to try it out. You can go to the Gathering Hall (place for multiplayer) in solo mode, although the monsters there are beefed up to accommodate for more players. So you can tackle it solo, but it will be noticeably harder. This also seems to be the only way to fight some monsters in the game, as they do not appear in the solo story until you've done this. The Palico allies are back this time and I love it! (little kitty people) They tag along with you and help on quests when playing solo or one will assist you if playing with one friend. (two players and two palicoes for a total of 4 hunters). You can change how they assist in battle and are more helpful than the teammates in previous games. But don't rely on them to do much damage. They mostly just assist with healing or powering you up. Overall the game is great and combat feels smooth. You will often be fighting the same monster again and again to make gear you really want. Story is forgettable and not too interesting. Upgrading and crafting new gear always feels so rewarding and satisfying for all the hard work. Playing with others makes this game really shine. If you don't mind repetition and love battling large monsters, definitely pick this game up.

I've constantly heard about the hype of this game and thought I'd pick it up to see what it's all about. Good tutorial if you're unsure of how to play which was nice. Combat during the training exercises felt decent. Traveling around by horse was also interesting as you can hold down X while on a road to automatically travel it, all without moving the control stick. Graphics are also quite nice, everything looks great! This doesn't really feel like a game though, it feels more like an interactive movie with little bits of combat sprinkled in. You will find yourself talking to NPCs for hours upon hours, repeating tedious and boring tasks such as, well...talking to more NPCs. Just when you think you've finished the quest and have spoken to everyone needed, another quest line will start that involves even more talking. sometimes between all the chatter, you will do a very brief battle where you fight 5 enemies or so, and then resume talking again. You get the idea. Combat during the tutorial felt decent but that's because they don't attack at the normal pace most enemies will. Doing a light attack is slower than most of the enemies' basic attacks, causing you to flinch before your attacks land. Timing the attacks is difficult due to clunky controls and sluggish movement. Dodging feels useless as there are no invulnerability frames during it. Text size is another issue why I couldn't enjoy this game. The text is way too small for any normal human being to read. That is unless you play with a huge flat screen TV 1 foot away from your face. So not being able to read how to do anything in the game is definitely something that ruined it. Finding items that do something, but can't tell what. Having to do quests (more than likely that involve talking) but can't read who to go to or why. Story is the one amazing thing about this game. It does very well with telling a story. I myself don't entirely understand it as I've never played the previous Witcher games, but it's not hard to tell that it does extremely well at story telling. Playing the previous games is recommended to fully enjoy this game. Overall I found the game to be very bland and repeatetive. If you enjoy running errands and conversing with local townsfolk, then you will enjoy this game. Combat and movement are both clunky and feel unresponsive at times. If you enjoy a good story, then pick this up.

Bloodborne6
Jun 4, 2015
I've played all the Souls games before this one. However I'm an offline gamer, please keep that in mind, I only play the games in offline mode. Bloodborne is much like the previous games. Create a character, grind a bit, die, and repeat. I was not very pleased with this game though. The previous games in the series were more about strategy. Should I block this type of enemy? Maybe cast a damaging spell? Perhaps a heavy weapon would be better. Bloodborne strips away most of the strategy that I enjoyed. Now in this game you have a gun in one hand and a melee weapon in the other. These are basically the only weapons you will have and the selection of weapons in the game is quite limited. Despite lacking a wide selection of weapons, your character is more nimble in this game. Making this game more about speedy combat. The gun is useful for stunning enemies if fired at the correct moment, such as an enemy lifting their blade to swing. Hitting them at the right moment causes them to become stunned and vulnerable. This is basically the only thing the gun is good for, as it does very little damage. What makes things worse is about half the enemies cannot be stunned in this manner. The melee weapon is pretty cool in this game though. Each weapon can switch modes. Usually they switch between one handed and two handed modes to give a little variety. This gives the options of quicker yet weaker attacks or slower yet stronger attacks. Spells are non existent, at least for the player. Enemies are still able to cast spells at you from a distance while you cannot. Instead you must attack them head on, trying to dodge their spells and hoping that you don't get hit. Being unable to cast spells gets rid of the ranged strategy. (even though you have a gun the bullets don't travel far at all) Shields have been removed from the game except for a wooden shield. However this shield is useless and should never be used. Strangely enough, enemies are still able to use shields. But for the most part it's just as useless for them. Lack of shields removes a defensive strategy from the game. Bosses are interesting in design but that's all. Combat with them is basically the same. A giant lumbering monstrosity that never stops swinging, all because you have to be near them to inflict damage. Controls are just as bad as all the other souls games. Push a button to dodge or attack, it's going to take half a second before your character actually begins the animation. Doesn't sound bad but when timing is strict, this just ruins it. Graphics are actually quite nice. The game looks beautiful and it's obvious there was more attention to the scenery than anything else. Hit boxes are still an issue. You can be behind an enemy when they swing forward and you'll get knocked on your back. Or even roll to the side of a downward hammer swing, only to be flattened onto the ground by nothing. Story is pretty much non existent, very much like the previous games. Pretty much the same story too. Everyone's got some curse or disease and now they hurt people for whatever reason. Kill them and stuff. Overall the game is just meh to me. Clunky controls, broken hit boxes, limited strategy are things that ruin it for me. Killing things is satisfying and the game looks wonderful. Difficulty is close to the same as the previous games. Challenging, but for the wrong reasons. Also, I have beaten this game so I didn't just play this for 5 minutes and stop.

Dark Souls II6
Apr 24, 2014
Dark Souls 2 is much like its predecessors, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. However this game allows for a little more exploration than the others. Constantly looking around every corner and trying to find hidden goodies is always a fun experience. The backstabbing mechanic has been changed too so there is a little more variety in the animations. Not much has changed really. While the enemies and bosses were not all that challenging, the difficulty from this game derives from poor programming and clunky controls. I often find myself doing actions around half a second to a few seconds later after pushing the button. Can't say how many times I've seen enemies fire projectiles through walls or just slash through them and hit the player, too much to count is for sure. The thing stopping my arrows from hitting the enemy isn't their shields or armor, no it's invisible walls. Locking on to enemies can be a chore too, I find myself dying from the game forcing me to stop locking on and making me take all attacks in the back. The graphics in this game are nothing special. As a matter of fact, the textures are headache inducing and the same pattern is repeated over and over. Look at a wall and you will see the same rock pattern go on forever. This is used too often in the game and makes it look poorly made. Despite all these flaws, the game is still somehow entertaining. I enjoy fighting things up close and defending with my shield. When the controls do as I want, it is very fun. It's also exciting to get new gear and upgrade. Character progression always feels satisfying and rewarding. Overall, this is a fun game for those who aren't reckless and aren't too serious. If you are serious and get frustrated easily, do not play this. If you enjoy exploring and pimping out your character with all kinds of new gear, this game should be right up your alley.

Battlefield 45
Nov 20, 2013
Battlefield 4 looks great in terms of detail to scenery. The controls are just like any other shooter, easy to handle. The ability to tell your squad to unleash suppressive fire on the enemy is also pretty cool. The destructive environments are also a nice touch to a shooter, being able to blow away the enemies cover and watch them scramble to find more. However this is all that I can say is good about this game. I was mislead to believe there was an open world just waiting to be blown to bits from gunfire, vehicles, explosions and more. Instead I got linear paths of enemies in which you just shoot and proceed to the next area. Story is very predictable and called everything that was about to happen. No creativity there. Also can't seem to make up their mind when briefing me on the current objective. So very confusing at times too. Overall, it's just go to an area, shoot enemies, then just keep repeating those two things. So it gets very boring, very fast. Those that play offline, I highly recommend getting something better than this.

Dishonored4
Jul 22, 2013
Dishonored looks great, spells are fun to use and I love the story. That's about it though. The rest of the game was pretty frustrating and annoying. The AI is very flawed. Trying to go through the game with a stealthy approach seems impossible. I'm constantly being detected by guards and other things without even being seen at all. Seriously, it will show that they have seen my through entire buildings and I'm not exaggerating. In stealth mode and moving at a snails pace they can see me through solid walls. Not only that but sneaking up behind an enemy is also quite difficult as they immediately turn around and just happen to know you are there. Early on, trying to take the non stealthy approach and just killing everyone is way too hard. Even later on it can be quite difficult. Most enemies just pull out their guns and just shoot constantly. It's as if they don't notice they have swords. Also during the 2 second or so time where they are preparing to fire, they cannot be hit by melee attacks. This makes me wonder why it even takes them so long to prepare if they aren't even that vulnerable during that state. The guards and whatnot are also psychic it seems. If you kill someone and no one sees you do it, they just know it's you, without even seeing the body. I'm talking about in an area in which there is a lot of people. And not many of them are hostile, so anyone could have done it. But no, no matter what happens the blame goes to the player. There are also spotlights in the game but you can never see the light shining on the ground. It's as if they forgot to put that in the game. So you have to look at the spotlights directly as it does no good to look at where the light should be shining. There is a good variety of upgrades to be purchased in the game, unfortunately there is no way to get them all. Controls are also a bit clunky at times. Trying to sneak up on a guard and take them out non lethally can be a challenge. As the button to do so is the same as the button to block. So I will be standing behind them, constantly bringing up my sword to block instead of choking them. While it was some fun without all these things annoying me, what really bothered me is that there is NO new game plus. So once you beat the game, that's it. You can replay missions that you did before but you can only have spells, weapons, upgrades, etc. that you had earned up to that point. The only thing I really enjoyed in this game was the spells. I loved using them and wish I could use them more as they would be very useful in previous missions. Unfortunately there is no way to do that. Overall, I would say to just rent the game, beat it, then be done with it. Really isn't much to do other than that.

Injustice: Gods Among Us9
Apr 26, 2013
I've never been a fan of superheroes, comics, or any of that stuff. I'm still not. However this game is incredible. Since it was created by NetherRealm, it feels and plays a lot like Mortal Kombat. Batman's grappling hook reminds me of Scorpion, Raven reminds me of Ermac, and there is more but I won't go into all of that. The interactive environments play very well into the game and are fun to use. It's also fun to knock the opposing combatant out of the stage and into a new part of it. That never gets old lol. Even though there isn't really a "Finish him/her" type of moment, the game is well made and there are a lot of little things in it that just make you not really care if it's there or not. The only reason I didn't give this a 10 is because of the ai difficulty when playing the arcade type of mode. Every fighting game seems to have this flaw. No matter what difficulty you put the game at, it gets ridiculously hard at the end. The difficulty just seems to jump to maximum, even if you were to have it on easy. Kind of hard to judge how good you are when easy jumps to insane difficulty. Playing on single fight however, the difficulty is well balanced. If you play on Medium, it is actually a decent challenge. If you play on anything lower it's pretty easy. I don't play on hard or higher because I can't react to attacks in the blink of an eye as it seems impossible to do on purpose for me XD. So overall the game is amazing. Definitely one of the best fighting games I have ever played.

Resident Evil 610
Mar 14, 2013
I don't understand the negative reviews I have heard. This game is just amazing. The game controls are easy to pick up and the different campaigns add length to the game. Not only that but each of the campaigns has a different perspective of the story. So you may not understand what someone is talking about in one campaign, then it will make sense once you play a different one. By far though my favorite thing in the game is the counter system. If you time pressing the melee button correctly, you will counter attack an enemy. Just about every enemy in the game has attacks that you can counter. So master this and you will be nearly untouchable. This is especially fun in mercenaries. Being surrounded and enemies can't even hit you, once you're good at it. You can also play the campaign and the Mercenaries with a friend in couch co-op. My only complaint about the game is the cut scenes. during the game, it will stop and the camera will zoom in on a door or something to show you where you need to go or something of interest. During those moments you cannot move your character, but they can still be hit by enemy attacks at the beginning and end of the short video. This has caused so much unnecessary damage, so it does get annoying. But the gameplay and everything makes up for it so I can look past it. If you don't like action games then I can see why this game gets bad reviews. I have played all the previous Resident Evil titles and they are more horror based. Except for 4 and 5. 4 is a bit of a mix. I think change is always welcome. Don't want a series to get so repetitive that it gets boring. To me this is a very welcome change.

Halo 46
Mar 14, 2013
The game is pretty much the same as any other Halo. You go through a short campaign and shoot covenant, flood, and whatever else stands in your way. This game introduces a new enemy faction: the Prometheans. The weapons they use are really cool looking and handle just like any other weapon. For the most part though, I'd rather use the old weapons rather than the new ones. Once you beat the campaign there isn't much of anything else to do. You could play online which takes up 3GB of your hard drive to download the stuff needed to play, but that's an additional feature which requires XBOX LIVE paid membership. Seeing as you have to pay seperately for this, I don't consider it part of the game. The game is what it comes with, not what you have to pay extra for. That's what it is to me anyway. Anyway the game is good and there is a decent amount of new things in it. But doesn't stand out as anything amazing or different from previous Halo shooters.

Gears of War 310
Mar 11, 2013
Gears of War 3 is just about perfect in every way. The story is not as good as Gears of War 2, but the gameplay more than makes up for it. Ever since the first Gears of War I've always loved using the Lancer's chainsaw bayonet to chop baddies in half. It never gets old. The controls feel so smooth and rarely disappoint. The fact that you can play the story or the multiplayer offline with a friend in couch co-op is just plain awesome. You can enjoy the story together or you can play against bots in offline multiplayer with them. So those that cannot play online will enjoy the game just as much as those that can. Beast mode is also very fun but not as fun when playing alone. I cannot express how much I love this game. You can enjoy it alone or with a buddy both online and offline.

When I started this game I just loved the bullet time mode. It was so cool to see the bullet's in slow motion as they pierce your enemies. Seeing the bullet from it's point of view when shooting the last enemy in the area was also very satisfying. However that's the only entertainment available. It didn't take long for bullet time to become a necessity rather than a cool addition. In just about every fight it is needed to survive as you will die in a few shots. Not only that but healing items are hidden throughout the game, you have to search for them as if they are skulls in Halo. The bosses are very plain and boring. Not going to say what they are but they are all basically the same thing. At the end of cutscenes you are forced into the open, regardless if you are behind cover or not. Just about everytime this happens, baddies are already shooting at you, causing you to lose unnecessary health. The music, oh gosh the music...this is the only game to give me a headache because of the music. My head was pounding so much that I had to shut off the music completely. It's not music, it's just noise. All I heard for the music was the same sound over and over again and some person singing. Ugh, this game is just terrible in my opinion. Beat it and never played it again.

Tomb Raider5
Mar 11, 2013
Tomb Raider has a great story and the environments are beautiful and well done. The combat is also entertaining and becomes more so as you unlock skills to upgrade Lara and her arsenal. However the game has some seriously clunky controls. I found myself having to repeat QTE's over and over because the game couldn't recognize the control stick being mashed. (I checked, it's not the controller) Also there is no crouch button so I found myself being shot to death constantly seeing as you cannot choose when to crouch, and the game decides for you. This is especially annoying when trying to take cover behind a waist high wall. The y-axis will also become inverted at random and changing this in the menu doesn't do anything, you will have to restart your game to fix this. There are also times when things don't make any sense at all. Like you pull something down and it goes through the floor. When you look down the heavy object is no where to be seen, it just vanishes somehow. The main thing that kept me playing this until the end though was the combat. It was always satisfying to execute enemies no matter which weapon you are using. This isn't really interesting though until you start unlocking the executions. So overall, I think it's fun. It's just the controls are so screwy and cause so many unnecessary deaths. So it can get frustrating very fast.
