For $20 I had a lot of fun with this. Just felt like more Nioh, and I'm ok with that. Got a lot of time out of this, had loads of fun customizing my character and optimizing my build, died a lot, and didn't have a bad time with any of it. All and all, not that bad

This game is gonna hit for some and miss for others. I really like the stance system with different specialties, as well as the ki pulse system as a quick stamina recovery and a way to combat zones made by yokai. From there its standard Soulsborne fare in mechanics and whatnot. Beyond that it's very Diablo-esque with its need for number crunching and grinding for loot. Your mileage is definitely gonna vary on that aspect alike. I personally enjoyed it very much, from its setting, combat mechanics and and its multitude of bosses that all provide a fantastic challenge

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite6

For what it sets out to do, I think it did a good job, definitely not the worst game I've ever played. Graphics are great, fighting is fast and fun and the story is actually pretty good with the vast assortment of characters. I just honestly feel like this game just really lacks in personality unlike 3 and Ultimate 3. They go primarily for the movie feel rather than for the all out comic look which is fine, but just feels like it takes itself a tad too seriously. The roster is another gripe since they massively cut it down and characters that are behind a paywall you have to pay 8 dollars or so for. Really doesnt sit well with me

Man, of all the games to get a remake I can assure you this was the least expected but I am so glad it happened because it is absolutely incredible. Updated visuals and quality of life improvements were added that make it great but literally everything else is intact from the original sound files to complete layouts. The base game is all here. The updated visuals may vary in mileage for you depending on how much you thought the original 's added to the feel, but I think it looks magnificent. Also as an added bonus, they added a bit of a tedious side quest at the end where you guide spirits to different areas of the map. Its tedious, it's pretty stupid, but if you do it you're rewarded with unlocking the full original game for your troubles which is wonderful

YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z5
Apr 18, 2021
It's not awful but it's pretty damn close. It's nothing but an edge-fest with its language, subject matter and jokes, which none of them really stick at all. The only one I found humorous was when a lingerie store blew up and Yaiba basked in the raining underwear. That got a chuckle out of me. Gameplay is standard hack and slash affair and it's pretty solid . The big thing that sticks in my craw is Yaiba literally says he prefers death metal and yet there is nothing even resembling it that I heard

Bodycount (2011)4
Apr 12, 2021
You would figure the spiritual successor to Black would have a little more...."Oomph" to it. Where Black was a symphony gunshots and a gallery of explosions, Bodycount just feels like a kazoo and a party popper... guns dont have the same punch, aiming down your sights feels clumsy, and enemies are pretty much the same across the board. It's just generic if anything and feels like it underachieves in every way.

I'm just gonna say it. It's not a good game. The balancing and difficulty spikes just make this game incredibly hard to settle into. Getting the cards you need to make a competitive deck is also a frustrating affair with you finding one duelist that has the potential to give good cards and duel them again and again and again until you have enough of what you need to move on. It doesnt help that this game pretty much predates the actual rules so alot of the depth that is present in the game is reduced to how many beat sticks are better than your opponents. Add to it the story just spikes in difficulty to obscene levels in the final act involving an endurance involving 6 straight duels that are hard as hell and have no check points or chances to save. Honestly, had I not used the 3 memory card trick to duplicate my strong monsters and traps there is no doubt in my mind it wouldve taken me infinitely longer

Override: Mech City Brawl6
Apr 6, 2021
Its....fine. That's about all I can say about it, it's fine. The robot designs are varied, they all have really cool special moves, the ability to trash an entire city during a fight is so much fun, and the added 4 players controlling 1 robot is an awesome idea that really channels all those Power Ranger fantasies we all had as kids. But that's the problem, the combat system is tailored for literally just that. It's very tactile and stiff, it's like playing Rock 'em Sock'em robots with specials. The single player just becomes a mindless button mashing affair with no real depth.

Haze3
Apr 6, 2021
When you market your game as the "Halo Killer" you've set the bar for how you want it measured. In this case, it can barely touch the bar. The story isnt as involved as Halo, I dont care about the characters like I do in Halo, shooting a gun in Haze isnt even satisfying like it is in Halo. Judging Haze on it's own merit doesnt even work because its generic at best and E-Waste at worst. It can be beat in under 5 hours and that's just too long for what it is.

I cant get enough of the revamped story they put in this game but I also love that the story is available to those who care about it and look into it. Everybody else can just kill demons and not be bothered. Speaking of killing demons, it's more fun to do than I ever imagined. Combat is visceral, fast and brutal. Every arena is a potential for a symphony of ripping and tearing. I have nothing else to add, it's just damn good

I'm not much of an online player so I just stuck to the main campaign and to be honest I get why people really like this game! Took me about a day or so to finish and I had a blast doing it, plowing through enemies and looting and watching the numbers go higher and higher and changing my characters look. I had a ton of fun with it. The story is alright, it's really just a driving force to keep missions happening and I'll take it just to have more reasons to hit things. Really solid game

Waifu dungeon crawling. This game is packed with content from gaining waifu allies, making connections with them, there's the main campaign which I feel tells a really good and different kind of story than what I'm used to seeing, theres a post-game campaign, and plenty of dungeons to explore and grind through. I'm not a dungeon crawler expert, but for what I experienced I had a good time with it, that story especially. My biggest complaint is level grinding felt like a massive chore. I never really found a true and reliable way to grind for levels so I went with whatever I could come up with which made it feel tedious and kept putting me to sleep

Apr 6, 2021
This game is an absolute delight to play. All of the playable songs are beautiful in their composition and a lot of them will have you coming back, not even necessarily to beat your score or 100% it, but just because they can be so much fun just to pull off and play. There is a story here that unfolds as you play through songs and it is very touching, but I wouldn't say its center stage, which is honestly just praise for how good the gameplay is. I genuinely love that you can use the touch controls on the screen to play the notes just like on the phone version it started as. Highly recommend this game, easily my favourite rhythm/music game

Blasphemous9
Apr 5, 2021
As good as a 2D souls-like can get. The story is as obtuse and vague as any of the Souls games, with information being very few and far between for anything truly substantial. The lack of information coupled with gorgeous pixel art for environments, characters and cutscenes along with religious overtones makes the game's presentation both a blessing with its eye candy, but also a curse with how unsettling things can appear with all of these factours in tandem. Sound design is pretty good too. Lots of ominous noise, your sword sounds great while swinging and actually hitting something, enemies make hideous noises and there are constant tells from sound alone. Voice acting is pretty great as well. There isnt a whole lot of characters to voice, but the ones there are come strong and help elevate the eerie setting even more. Music is very religious oriented and your mileage is gonna vary here. I would say these tracks are definitely more for painting a mood for where you are rather than being bop after bop. Great in context but probably nothing you're gonna be blasting in the car. As far as gameplay goes, unlike your usual 3D Souls games which put heavy emphasis tactical play and waiting for openings, Blasphemous takes a more hack-n-slash approach with an emphasis on platforming rather than normal traversal. That doesnt mean you wont be doing a lot of dodging and countering because there's plenty of that in spades, but the combat is tailored to reward aggressive play. From there it's just your standard MetroidVania fare, with a big map to explore and gain access to other sections later on. I honestly really liked this game, and after I was done with my first playthrough I was more interested than ever to actually figure out what the full story is about in full. Highly recommend if you're up to the challenge.

Its Dark Souls with a God Eater coat of paint and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The character customization is the deepest Ive ever come across. The story is pretty involved to be honest, and has a LOT of detail to be sure. Boss battles in this souls-like are all fantastic and ramp up difficulty.
But over all its a proper souls-like so it can be ball bustingly hard, levels are vast, and you swing around a giant weapon and have build potential to go with it. lots of fun.

Borderlands 36
Apr 4, 2021
Honestly if the gun play and action and looting wasn't so tight and fun I would absolutely hate this game. The story here falls short not necessarily because of the narrative itself but the characters that you have to interact with. More times than not, they're annoying and just feel incredibly unimportant to anything. This is probably the first game I ever played where I straight up turned the dialogue slider to 0 and just read subtitles, because I just didn't want to listen to anyone anymore.
Again, the actual gameplay is as tight as its always been. Its still satisfying as ever to shoot a bunch of enemies, loot guns, toss grenades and use over the top abilities, and with the new vault hunters there are even more toys to play with.
Soundtrack is fantastic with tons of varying styles of music happening across the different settings you'll be traveling to. Side quests are also very enjoyable and retain a lot of the humour that previous games have.
Overall the game is no different than 1 and 2 aside from the main story, which is a shame because that was a part of the previous games that shined the most.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night10
Apr 4, 2021
This was an absolute delight to play from start to finish. A MetroidVania that looks great top to bottom. There are some areas in the castle that are absolutely gorgeous and really shined bright. Story is a little cut and dry, but there's enough added in that it stays fresh and interesting throughout, which extends a little bit to the characters. They're all distinct and varied but I always felt like they could've been expanded just a little bit. Gameplay is as tight as the game its a spiritual successor, maybe even a bit more with more types of weapons to play with in numerous amounts, even being able to collect materials and make your own, including food dishes that permanently increase your stats on top of healing you. Music is wonderful in this as well as sound design. Everything in this, is fantastic and is everything it was promised to be and more. Also there's a slot machine boss to taunt Konami.

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon10
Apr 4, 2021
This game is so satisfying to play especially as a fan of classic Castlevania games. There are more mechanics to play with, 4 separate characters provide 4 ways to play the game especially since you can switch them on the fly. Music sounds great in its 8 bit glory and for an 8 bit game, the pixel art is on point and looks great. Even the bosses look magnificent with their larger sprites. Definitely worth a look and completing 100%

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger8
Apr 4, 2021
I love the style of gameplay this game encourages, going for a fast and loose approach as opposed to tactical gameplay as something like Street Fighter or Soul Calibur provides, opting for a more Killer Instinct approach. Couple that with high flying 2D anime characters, all with varying strategies and styles. The visual novel approach to storytelling is very on brand for what Aksys publishes. Not my favorite approach but the anime aesthetic helps. Biggest downside is the difficulty spikes with the final boss being an absolute kick in the nuts again and again and pushes your knowledge of your character's mechanics to the absolute limit, as any good final boss in a fighting game should. I think its a great game with a great array of characters with their own stories to tell amid one bigger than all of them.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar9
Apr 4, 2021
I had so much fun with this game. I was absolutely floored by how deep the combat and party composition was. There are 6 characters total to use in your party and all of them have different possibilities that really shine in their own ways and provides tons of possibilities that can really help with replayability and depth. Art looks great and embraces the comic book roots, and the voice acting is surprisingly really well done. Sound design is great too, sword swings sound heavy, the Golem has a machine gun that sounds punchy and devastating, and giant gauntlets sound earth ****. Even beyond combat, background noise sounds great and organic. Story is pretty good and does a good job at stringing you along from mission to mission until you ultimately fight the big baddie at the end. I genuinely loved the loot system and watching all the numbers go up like in any other game. However the only real short coming is the level progression and how difficulty can spike very very suddenly if you just happen to be where you're supposed to be to progress the story. And if you get caught by the pirate air ship, forget it. Those enemies are way too overpowered to take on, and sometimes you have no choice to engage it and hope to God you can flee fast enough. Otherwise though, this is a great game and well worth the time.

My little brother and I found cheats to unlock all the ATVs and courses and would play for hours on end just riding around the open courses. I really enjoyed this game from start to finish. Aragami8
Apr 4, 2021
My first mistake was playing this game immediately after finishing a high octane hack n' slash game, this game is not combat friendly. Not to say you won't be doing any kind of combat, but you really have to take your time and plan your path before making moves. This is stealth gaming at its core and if you play too carelessly you'll lose again and again. Presentation is fantastic with an Okami-like Japanese paintbrush/cell shaded look, and the HUD is cleverly encompassed entirely on your cloak in an eye catching way. Its a fine game, plays pretty well, soundtrack is actually very enjoyable. Story is a little lackluster if only because you can see the twist coming with sullies it a little bit.

Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War10
Apr 4, 2021
Everything that worked for AC4 comes back and is better than ever. The speed is still there, the variation of missions and the tenseness that sets in during missions all comes back. Now you're in charge of a squad of 3 other pilots who are fleshed out characters that you get attached to really quickly as you all ride or die together in a campaign that honestly feels like a Hollywood blockbuster in its presentation but it honestly feels so right in the way it comes across with cutscenes and full dialogue between characters. Like I said, this is basically Ace Combat 4's foundation but with more added onto it and it culminates in a great story and an even better game that I found to be an absolute delight to play

Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies9
Apr 4, 2021
Easily one of my favorite games on the PS2 ever. With a story that starts you off on your heels and working to gain more and more ground in a mounting conflict in a large scale war. The game has lots of tension, the 18 missions on display start from trying to gain a little bit of ground and bases, to destroying off shore oil rigs, to clearing a path on the ground in a valley, all the way to taking out a giant super weapon. The missions are varied and have a lot of tension in them as pressure starts to mount, and a mission can go south very suddenly which requires you to weigh your options on your payload before taking off. And the story is presented in a very creative way, presented through the eyes of a civilian who befriended an enemy pilot and the things he saw as a result of your actions in the missions. The graphics aren't the best, especially with things on the ground like buildings, but with a game like this its honestly not that big of a deal, especially with how fast paced the game is, there isn't a whole lot of time to take a second and look around.

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth9
Apr 4, 2021
I really loved this game. Its filled with charm, a very engrossing story, and a great cast of characters. There are a ton of Digimon to find and digivolve and make a team that you love. The game isnt perfect by any means; there is a reliance on mandatory side quests to pad the game a bit, but at the very least they keep in line with the detective motif which is a great change of pace for the series. Unfortunately there are aspects of being a detective they left on the table since it all boils down to find clue, find other clue, and then be told who did it, which is a shame, but the presentation does sell it enough that you can get past it.

Digimon World 33
Apr 4, 2021
I love Digimon but I thoroughly did not enjoy this game. After a while it just starts to drain any enjoyment you can get from it. The amount of times that the game just expects you to know exactly where to go without any clue is mind boggling. The digivolution system is very confusing and gives you absolutely no direction as to how to attain the next step without a guide.
They also went way too far with backtracking, especially in the late game. The story is paper thin and the characters one-dimensional. Going in its favour is a very enjoyable gwent-like card game, a damn good soundtrack and cutscenes that are absolutely gorgeous, damn near the quality of Final Fantasy X on the PS2. Granted, its 2021, the 2 Cyber Sleuth games are infinitely better in comparison with better stories and characters and systems. I just played this to beat all the games I couldnt when I was much younger, which makes it worse because I realize I didnt have a chance in hell of beating this when I was younger. If you get curious enough to play this, for the love of God keep a walkthrough strapped to your side.
