The lack of multiplayer or online play does hurt the title a bit, especially when multiplayer has been included in previous Ace Combat titles.

For veterans, it'll feel like the same gameplay found in all previous Ace Combat games--and that's not necessarily a bad thing considering this is a shooter that's still worthy of sitting in first class.

The trouble is, all this story is presented with some of the most god-awful writing and voice work I've ever heard. [Dec 2004, p.112]

I felt ace combat 5 is a bit downgrade compared to the ace combat 4. Many features like landing dock and switchable special weapon are all gone. Although the game offers new Crew mechanic, I think it pretty much useless, since my while team did almost nothing for the mission. It is not bad tho, it's just didn't do better than the 4th one.

Of the holy trinity, this has got to be one of my ace combat game of the mainline series, especially the Journey home song to me made it better!

32 missions and they're all brilliant. The campaign throughout is incredible (cheesy, yes, but - meh) and the emotional payoffs are great. Gameplay-wise similar to 04, closest to Zero. Story was the best thing about this one, it's immersive and fun.

Heavy on action and heavier on story, Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War is without a doubt the finest flight combat game on the PS2.

Get it, it makes all other flight titles feel like you're flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog sh.t out of Hong Kong.

Fans of aircraft combat titles should really enjoy Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. It's got a good storyline, top-notch presentation and a great gameplay engine. Fast action, furious combat and flying fun make this a game you shouldn't miss.

The game would have scored much higher had it managed to better balance its weapons’ issues, but it’s still worth buying if you are into flight simulators and don’t want to mess around with a computer game.

If you can summon up the courage to try a flight game for the first time, Ace Combat 5 - Squadron Leader will be a great place to start.

It's not a bad game to any degree, is technically very polished with beautifully rendered craft bursting with technical detail and slick in almost every sense - but it lacks soul.

Es un buen juego y considero que es el mejor de la saga, este juego al principio no se entiende pero si te quedas un poco más ya le vas a ver lo divertido y a mí me suele dejar enganchado no se a ustedes.

This is a game I hold fondly in my heart. I absolutely love everything that Ace Combat 5 has to offer. On paper it doesn’t seem like much but when you play through the game for the first time you will feel as if you’ve experienced the greatest game ever. The story is so amazingly well written and paced perfectly. The combat is classic ace combat that you’d expect. Each level is unique and nothing ever feels repetitive due to the great choice of objectives. The characters are all so engaging and convincing. They all felt like genuinely real people, not just npc’s. For how little you actually see these characters in person I found it incredible how much you grow fond of them just by hearing their voices and not actually seeing them all that much. I give a huge congratulations to the voice actors who did such a great job. The plane selection is massive and that there are about 50 unique aircrafts to choose from ranging from small interceptors, to medium sized fighters, to heavy attack planes. You also have 3 wingman under your control and the game allows you to not only chose a plane for yourself but for your wingman too. Combine that with the fact than you can give your wingman in game orders and commands, it really makes for some engaging gameplay you don’t see in too many other games. I believe there are about 30 playable missions all of exceptionally well designed playing areas and great in game objectives. The replay ability is quite strong too. You’ve also got arcade mode and that’s always a blast as well, but you’ll spend most of your time in the story. The last thing I want to talk about is the soundtrack, because believe me it’s absolutely incredible. It’s probably the best soundtrack in any game I’ve ever played... and I’ve played many many games in my time. Every track suits the mission so well. It just really brings the game to life. Speaking of which at the time I’m writing this one of the soundtracks was actually featured in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Summer Olympics. Don’t believe me look it up. Anyways, in a nutshell this game is a holy gem that no other ace combat game comes close to being, sorry Ace Combat 4. I highly recommend just about anyone to play this game, because even if you aren’t really into flying games all that much I can promise you you’ll love it. There are two types of people in the world... people who love Ace Combat 5 or people who have never played Ace Combat 5. You either love it or have never played it... and I love it.

I liked areCombat 5 my biggest problem the story feels too cheasy with the big conspiracy theory Think and I think the game was too long but all other parts are just as good as a normal areCombat game. i just think i would have liked the story more remind more of 4 or zero It feels very strange they sit and call you Captain and everything even if you never say anything back to the is meaningful
