Never played Tomb Raider before but I've seen videos of the previous games. They were considering iconic for their time, but they didn't seem to age well in my view. The controls were too stiff, the character model was too oversexualized and the movement gymnastics seemed over the top and unnecessary (e.g. handstand on a ledge). Much prefer this version of the action hero which is much "grounded" in the way that she moves and more human in the way that she talks and approaches the world. Gravity defiance movements are more compartmentalized and justified to able to climb, traversal and do some jumping set pieces. Just a great gaming experience. The island setting, the climbing, the combat, rope traversal, the over the top story, the sense of adventure, the ambience, the set pieces. Only drawback are the gore death scenes, they feel completly unnecessary and out of place. There should have been at least an option to remove them(or a mod).
Enjoyable local co-op to spend a couple of hours. Easy to learn, harder to coordinate between people as expected. For people that enjoy Overcooked this is the lumberjack version. Cons: Couldn't have been a bit more refined in terms of gameplay and diversity to make it a longer and better experience.
Overall great game, interesting story, a few gray story choices.
Downside:
- Some bugs
- A couple of crashes in specific areas
- Only a few NPC character models, so they are reused a lot
- A lot of fetch quests
- Not being able to run at max speed during the day inside "safe" areas- Fighting is not great, especially using the fists
Well crafted simple 2D metroidvania. Short but sweet, doesn't overstay its welcome. Only drawbacks not being able to point diagonally and some of the enemies(centipede?) are too easy to kill because they don't move or barely move.
Very fun FPS multiplayer sword play at start, but after some time I started to notice that, in most servers, there're players that seem to take advantage of some movement glitch or are just using cheats, making them almost impossible to kill. This took all the fun of the game.
Not a big fan of randomly generated worlds, this game would have been better if it was more tailored, but there's still a good amount of co-op fun in the gameplay and exploration. Not very worth it at full price but definitely worth it at discount price.
Especially like how the gameplay is not about button smashing but is slower, tactical, intentional and coordenating with teamates. Wished that there were more games like this.
One of the best co-op platform experiences. Very similar to Trine 2 with a few added character abilities. Cons: - Didn't like the battle areas being limited. Prefered how it was completly open in Trine 2
- Personal prefence for the enemies in Trine 2 instead of nightmare enemies like wolfs
Visually beautiful and unique, gameplay is not interesting, and isn't worth while. Would probably have worked better as some kind of short animation film.
Underrated co-op isometric twin-stick action rpg. It's a simple, beautiful and fun, although frustrating at times. Cons: - The number of enemies seem to scale with the number of co-op players, but with 3 players some areas are too small for the number of enemies all attacking at the same time and taking most of the space in the screen. Especially bad because some of them have large AoE attacks, leaving almost no space in the screen too avoid the damage/debuffs.
- Balance and progression could be improved
- Definitely a co-op game. Playing alone doesn't do the game justice and can be overwhelming and frustrating
Super fun. One of the best if not the best of the series. It learned from what worked in 1 and 2, and made it even better with new tricks and multiplayer.
Great co-op game local or online. Easy to recommend, easy to learn, hard to coordinate with friends in the later levels.
Improved on Overcooked 1 with new mechanics, more recipes, more levels and more content.
Great co-op hack and slash to play with friends. Cons:
- Combat gets repetitive after a few hours of the campaign as you can repeat the same combo over and over again
- Different weapons don't matter much, it only changes attack stats
Awesome local co-op 2D platformer. In this genre it's one of the best ever done. Only give 9 just because the follow up Rayman Origins was even better.
Everything is well done: beautiful art direction, fluid, great character control and animations, creative, soundtrack, gameplay, non-repetitive.
Fun and silly co-op platforming game with tons of creative levels. Great for adult/child co-op as it has an option to teleport making it easier for a child to follow the adult. Pros:
- Campaign levels, weapons, characters, art style
- Replayability with different multiplayer game modes, user-made maps and aiming to get all the gems and pieces of yarn in each level
- Level creator Cons:
- Combat against enemies and other players is the weakest part of the game. Is very limited and sometimes annoying when other players can spam the same attack over and over again and you can't move
- Menus could be simpler and more intuitive
Underrated. A bit rough here and there in terms of gameplay and story but overall a worthwhile entertaining game. Pros:
- Pleasant to just drive around the city and listen to the soundtrack.
- Great idea of having black and white areas that fade into color as objectives are unlocked. Feels somewhat similar with Assassin's Creed when unlocking parts of the map. The similiarity also extends with the parkour gameplay although not as polished as Assassin's Creed
- Also takes some ideas from games like Hitman when the player needs to change clothes to access guarded areas Cons:
- Story and dialoague could have been better at times
- Some repetitiveness reminds me Assassin's Creed 1. Could have been cut shorter for a better experience
Good graphics and environments. Fun grappling hook movement across the maps. Decent fights. Overall entertaining with some rough edges Cons: - Combat moves with the grappling hook can get a bit repetitive
- Some areas are a bit unforgiving in terms of platforming and enemies shooting you while you try to get closer to them
Rare and creative combination of metroidvania with pinball that works surprisingly well. Pros: graphics, gameplay, music and characters. Doesn't overstay its time. Cons: - Some sections require very precise timing which sometimes feel like trying the same thing a bunch of times until it works instead of skill. - Backtracking before unlocking fast travel in the game is a bit boring because you need to repeat various pinball sections which still need precise timing in order to send the ball in a specific section exit, otherwise you will be moving in circles on the map instead of going in the intended direction.
Relaxing and pleasant game. Main focus of the game is the great sound design of nature and animals, and a well done implementation of camera gameplay. Few but memorable characters plus a well suited soundtrack complete the package.
Great example of what a short game should be. A sweet and memorable experience packaged in a short playtime with simple but yet effective art style, gameplay, exploration and a beautiful soundtrack.
Very short Zelda Link to the Past clone with tons of meme reference humour, very basic gameplay and puzzles. It's okish for a kid new to gaming or someone really into this type of game. Graphics: Colourful, cute and cozy
Soundtrack: Does the job
Cons:
- A lot of decisions feel too forced, coming out of nowhere and not making much sense, taking away the immersion every once in a while
- Unnecessary extra gore in some scenes involving repeated user input
- After looking online, it turns out all decisions have no impact on the story, just in the character interactions Pros:
- Cool visual style, aging well
- Interesting characters Mostly positive, but Life is strange 1 for example did a better job in this genre of game
Quirky, creative, interesting story, world building and characters, well made game mechanics, helpful tips at any given time. Only downside is a few platforming actions feel a bit arbitrarily when they fail or succeed but the game is forgiving with a lot of save points, lives and quick travel.
