Metroid Prime 4: Beyond10
Dec 7, 2025
This is an amazing Metroid Prime outing. It should have scored higher. I love the NPC chatter. It feels organic. You’ll hear comments about your choice of route, amazement at some of your suit features as you reveal them to the NPC. It’s fun! The level design is more linear, similar to Metroid Dread in many ways but in 3D and the landscapes are stellar. It FEELS like Metroid.this game WILL appeal to you if you’re a Sci-Fi fan, a Metroid fan, a first person adventure fan and is, in my opinion, a must buy for the Switch 2 at the least. Some of the psychic abilities are a bit slow to deploy but do add a layer of interactivity I enjoy.

I was immediately engrossed by the game. The atmosphere drew me right in and the circumstances around the intro makes you live in a very small dose the Link power fantasy, much like how Metroid games have often started. I won’t say more. The performance issues are well known. The game runs nigh flawless on Quality at 30fps Not wanting to play the game at that setting is one thing, but giving the game a 0 because of performance issues on performance modes is dishonest if you don’t come back and change the rating once the game is “fixed” 6-8 weeks from now

Metroid Prime Remastered10
Feb 12, 2023
Metroid Prime remaster is a perfect reminder why open world games aren’t the holy grail of gaming. It’s a concise game that feels great to explore. You get meaningful upgrades if you do and the game has a mix of tight corridors and tunnels as well as more open spaces to jump around in. The ever expanding mix of abilities at your disposal break any kind of routine that could settle in and turn to boredom. The level design is close to perfect with almost Hub like areas that lead to the different parts of the level making “backtracking” painless. It’s a 14-16 hour game that doesn’t wast your time and surprises and delights at every turn.

Just got through the first hour. I’ll update my review when done. So far, the game is worth your time. Black iron prison is one huge set piece full of atmosphere. The musical score and sound effects will keep you on a high awareness level. There’s quite a bit of game left to cover, but, so far, if you love sci-fi, thrillers, 3rd person action games and we’re a fan of dead space, give the game a go. As a new IP and first game from a new studio, I’m super impressed and can’t imagine what the dev team could do if given the chance to work on a sequel.

The mechanics feel refined over the original so I’m definitely going to play on a harder difficulty on my next play through. The enemies animate so well, the environments are dense and intricately detailed. The travel mechanics are fluid and fun. If you have any time to spare at all, Forbidden West is worthy of it.

10/10 easy, rated after finishing the game, downloaded through game pass. The concept and art style are solid throughout and made me think of reverse Metroid. Playing as the monster never got boring. Terrain traversal is especially quick compared to other games in the genre. The abilities you do have lend themselves well to the concept of the game. The character has 3 different sizes, each with its own set of abilities you can use, and you have to change sizes here and there to take advantage of them. Some areas give you a chance at going in full strength or taking a stealthier approach or even using sabotage. Except for the very last bit of the game I didn’t get lost despite there being no map. Some of the gore was a bit much, but I personally tried to not kill any unarmed personnel so the killing was self defence. Also, The end sequence is a delight. Fingers crossed they’ll make a sequel, or another dev will if these devs move onto something else. Truly a no brainer if you’re already subscribed to game pass.

The user ratings for this game is ridiculous. TLOU 2 is the very best narrative driven game to have been crafted. Models and environments are highly detailed, voice acting, sound, music, story are of the highest quality. The gameplay mechanics are also fun, leaning heavily into the stealth genre with a bit of survival mechanics baked in that vary depending on what level of difficulty you play. The devs were also very generous in content in terms of how much there is to see as well as game length. Get the game now if you have disposable income and care to experience the bleeding edge of game tech, or wait until it drops to 40$ and buy it then. Either way you won’t be disappointed and won’t have missed out on experiencing first hand this wonderful work of art.

Playing on Xbox one x. Must buy for fans of any one of these genres : Metroidvania, StarWars, 3rd person action / platform, souls / sekiro. Though not nearly as difficult as From Software games on normal. The most important mechanic is the Parry one. Finally, this game makes a strong case against Open World anything and hopefully many devs follow suit and this particular game has enough traction to be refined even further in a sequel. People are too critical of this game. It's a really fun Sci-Fi 3rd person shooter / RPG. I hated the combat at first because of the lack of a power wheel and time slowing down. After coming back to the game I really do like it and it deserves to be bought and played by anyone who loves sci-fi games. The team could have done a stellar job on a sequel given the chance, which will never happen because of how critically panned ME:A was. If you’re remotely interested in VR this is a title to get to encourage developers and send a message that quality VR is worth their time and effort to make.

Even as a big fan of the series it's quite difficult to recommend what is essentially 4 easy puzzles, a few short on-rails segments, two identical mini-bosses and a final boss battle that gives a glimmer of hope as to what a sequel could be. There is no score to prod you to play the game again or countdowns to put pressure on puzzle solving. My only comfort is that maybe I'll be part of the statistic that warrants a slightly longer and more feature rich sequel with equally great dialogue and visual presentation found here.

Farpoint is a great game to play with the aim controller. It's the first game I played co op in vr and love it. The friend I played with stayed silent the whole time which ruined the experience a little, but it was very cool. The gun vibrates convincingly too, which is a nice touch. If you have the spare change, it's highly recommended, especially with the aim controller, as it's heavily discounted in that bundle, and the peripheral will be supported further down the line.

Curb your enthusiasm. This is a good game, but, unlike BOTW, it doesn't deserve all the praise. Its biggest design flaw is that there are no apparent clues as to where the majority of moons are, which are key to completing the game. The levels are so open that, while they're fun to explore, the lack of direction is a sore spot. That said, it's a must-have on the Switch, and with a little bit of refinement, it could be the foundation for some essential sequels.

The negative review scores are baffling, and may be from Sony, MS, and even Nintendo fanboys who've never played the game, and want the Switch to fail so Nintendo goes Multiplatform. If Nintendo devs put as much effort and thought into all of their IP coming to the Switch as they have with Zelda : Breath of The Wild, then the Switch is definitely worth picking up alongside a copy of the game. Otherwise, if you have a Wii U and want nothing more to do with Nintendo, you owe it to yourself to purchase and play this game. It's a visual, aural, and gameplay masterpiece.

Final Fantasy XV10
Dec 15, 2016
I actually prefer this game to the Witcher 3. Witcher 3 excelled in complex item and gear management and intricate stories behind your missions. BUT the open world is samey everywhere and you get lost really easily going from place to place as the topography doesn't change much from Zone to Zone. Still a great game obviously that should be played. Final Fantasy XV has great chemistry between the characters, a tight focus on the overarching plot, A truly fantastical world that has unique areas that are accessed quickly with well designed, branching path dungeons. Great combat system that can chain different weapons together, so you don't just hold a button down. A very Final Fantasy feel: Epic monsters, balanced party, a great day night cycle, cool easter eggs. It's just a shame how critical people feel they have to be and keep themselves from enjoying great games like this one. It's a Medium to light RPG with fun gameplay loops and amazing world to explore with sights to take in at almost every turn. It's a masterpiece that shouldn't be missed by any rpg fan. Hope my opinion helps in your decision making! Have fun!

Eagle Flight9
Nov 27, 2016
Eagle Flight is an essential purchase for VR owners if you enjoy the challenge of reaching low enough flight times to collect the 3 stars per level. I would also classify it as the title that could persuade PS4 owners who are on the fence, and are waiting for that one worthwhile title to purchase the PSVR headset. There's a definite thrill in maneuvering through tight spaces at high speeds that just doesn't wear off, and collecting all 3 stars per level, plus some free flying that you'll want to do in between, will net you around 7 hours of single player campaigning at least. Factor in the multiplayer, and the game is extended further. Seeing the 'faux' paris under different weather conditions as the story progresses is a treat. The music design suits the game perfectly. There are a couple of drawbacks, the main ones being Ubisoft cut back on the immersion in 2 ways. They seem to have dialed down the stereoscopic effect in the open areas of paris, and dial it back up a little when in tighter spaces. This is significant, and means the game won't sell you on the immersion side of VR. The other is more subtle and doesn't bother me one bit: Ubisoft reduced the FOV by adding an eagles beak and part of the face at the bottom of your vision, and some feathers at the top (you're literally looking through the eyes of an eagle) and further reduce the FOV when pulling off tight turns by blacking out the edge of the screen. You may know of this effect already, but in truth, you're too busy looking in the direction you're flying most of the time to even notice it, and the thrills mentioned above without ever feeling any discomfort much more than make up for it.

Robinson: The Journey9
Nov 13, 2016
I recommend playing standing with all comfort settings off. Don't use the right analogue, shut your eyes briefly when grabbing a surface to climb, and you shouldn't ever get motion sickness. The game is engrossing, it pulls you in, and doesn't let go. Each area is distinct, and you'll have multiple occasions to interact with the dinosaurs. Robinson also happens to be one of the longer games with a narrative available for VR and knowing it won't be over in an hour certainly helps with the immersion. There are multiple paths to reach objectives. The sound and art design are great. I have to admit I was lucky enough to buy at a discount from Amazon who either discounted the game as a preorder bonus, or messed up the price, so, I don't feel cheated by the length of the game. To keep this critique short, Robinson is NOT a VR system seller, but is a must buy if you have PSVR, especially at $40. As It IS one of the most fleshed out experiences in VR, and a fun, lighthearted adventure you'll want to come back to If VR is your thing.

I've changed my mind about the game after playing it for a few hours. Piloting the vehicles is a lot of fun. If you take the time to play the training missions over and over for an hour or two, the dual screen setup should be easier to manage. The game would score higher in my opinion had Nintendo and Platinum spruced up the all range mode arenas, and tripled the on rails sections. If you're not a big Star Fox fan, you might want to pass on this until a game slump presents itself.

Transformers: Devastation8
Oct 8, 2015
Reviewed traditionally, Tansformers devastation is a solid 7, because of its flaws, mainly repetitive environments and very short length. However, it still remains a must buy for fans of brawlers and Transformers. The sense of scale is done right, even down to buildings and cars being the right size next to the car mode, to looking small and insignificant in bot mode. The combat is extremely satisfying, especially when you start 'mastering' the short list of combos and knowing exactly when to add the finishing car mode hit. Fighting against the main bosses is pure delight. The visuals in the game are the cherry on top, and will really speak to fans of the G1 series. In short, if Activision was already committed to making a sequel if the game sells well with a 7 hour playthrough, and improved environments, I would recommend an immediate buy to anyone who likes videogames. Platinum games could reuse the same engine, and all the current animations, they're that good. The sad truth is, even if the game sells extremely well, don't expect anything but a cookie cutter sequel. It is for that reason alone that non-transformers fans should wait for the game to go on sale for 30$ before buying, or if you were on the fence and were waiting for reviews. People who made up their minds that it was a day one purchase won't be disappointed at least, and will have a lot of fun with the game.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze10
May 8, 2014
Let's get this out of the way immediately: If you enjoy platformers, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a worthy addition to your videogame library. I recommend you place it high on the list of the games you want to purchase, especially if you currently own a WiiU. What's more, if you haven't played Donkey Kong Country Returns, you can purchase that game afterwards and play it on the same system. Here's what helps give this game high marks: 1) Level design: The levels are spread out across 6 different islands. Every Island has a theme / setting that inspires the levels within. Every island has recurring challenges that you learn to maneuver as you progress. This is offset by including new types of hurdles and obstacles that you won't find in any other level or island. So, even as your skill level increases, there is constantly a new mechanic to get a hold of that keeps the game fresh. 2) Music: The game's musical score is fantastic. It's in the spirit of the original Donkey Kong games with lots of percussions, and flutes. As you progress through a level, the music will too, gaining in intensity to match what is going on onscreen. The music alone will motivate you to get past difficult obstacles just to hear it evolve. 3) The Kong family: What's great about this mechanic is that each of the three Kongs wil give Donkey Kong an additional ability that makes the obstacles in a level easier to master. There is also a meter that fills with every bananna picked up and every enemy stomped on that, when full, allows you to unleash a super power that transforms onscreen enemies into items. From a heart surplus to coins to extra lives. For extreme difficulty, take the levels on solo. 4) Gameplay: Tropical Freeze adds swimming to the mix, which increases Donkey Kong's move set. You can roll, jump, smash the ground, swim, water spin, grab onto vines and cling to certain surfaces. Most, if not all of these moves are augmented when partnered with a Kong family member that sits perched atop Donkey Kong's back. Mastering these skills is a lot of fun when trying to complete levels. What makes the levels stand out especially, and adds replayability to the game, are the hidden Puzzle pieces and K-O-N-G letters in every level. Finding them opens up bonus levels on every island, as well as gives access to a 'temple' level once every puzzle piece is found. The difficulty of these temples is quite high, as they'll have unique obstacles to master. Also, every level completed has a time trial challenge that opens up for you to try. 5) Graphics: The artistic design is top notch. The world is colorful, and lively. Levels are stuffed full of détails that you won't even notice unless you stop and take a look once in a while. Grass swings in the breeze, water ripples nicely when you dive in, enemies animate really well, The kongs have better fur effects than the previous game, and all of it is rendered in 1080p at 60 frames per second. It's a visual treat. Overall: Tropical Freeze will make you a better platformer. It engages all of your senses, besides smell, beautifully. It's extremely challenging, but fair, and the high difficulty is offset by items you can use within the game, as well as the various checkpoints found throughout the levels. It's a rewarding game that you'll want to play through at least once a year. Go and buy it, you won't be disappointed.
