Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse7

I really feel this film is a prime example of style over substance.
All the purity the first film had when making use of that characteristic style or using the multiverse topic is lost in this sequel, which being so selfaware, is just concerned of looking good and showing off multiverse-related topics.
There are glimpses of thematic and emotional conflict here and there, but it isn't a concern of the film. It losses the emotion but the problem is that it also loses the fun. It's a very atonal film in terms of direction, which doesn't know if it wants to be a comedy or a drama. And the action scenes, which is all the film has, end up falling flat because there's barely any emotional substance to hold it. Besides the plot starts almost one hour in and the film ends with the plot starting to develop. Most characters just feel extremely supporting character, with almost no presence in the film. Good things: the film looks good, the animation is good, the music is fine, the peformances are good, the character design are good and the sequel will probably be good.

Beautifully crafted film. A good script elevated by sublime direction by Bradley Cooper.
Everyone with art inclinations will most likely enjoy this film, even if you aren't into music and composing. The cinematography is the best of the year without a doubt for me, both in color and black and white scenes, in terms of composition, lighting, movement, tone and everything. It really seems taken out of that time. The performances are breathtaking as well. I would mainly highlight Cooper's job, but Mulligan is not far. Big props to the costume and hairstyling departments.

Effortlessly entertaining. In a time when most films are full of pretention, in which comedy and drama usually feels forced, this film feels like those older films (15/20 years ago I guess), which were entertaining and fun but good. It has drama, comedy and a bit of everything. Nothing spectacular, but Affleck's direction, although subtle, is effective. Performances are quite good, although the characters are not that engaging. Overall, very solid film.

Strange World6

Although filled with big potential, Strange World falls flat, pretentious and predictable. The world has some charm, but again isn't very engaging. However, the film doesn't seem to take itself too seriously, whether that's for the better or not. And the cast is not good, both in personality and design. That said, the film isn't BAD. It works enough, can be fun at times and ends with a good feeling of completeness.
