Two awful things about the movie: 1. Too long with nothing new to say. It is basically filler. James Cameron is just shamelessly making money at this point. There's clearly a finale and we're just being fed filler till then. 2. The same humans who came to Pandora looking for a new home because the Earth is slowly dying due to rampant destruction and pollution and climate change, are still insisting on coming to another planet to extract its resources and destroy the habitat. Make it make sense! And of course, In the next film, the humans will have figured out how to breath Pandora's air.
What a mess. The film had one job: why did the twins stop speaking to the rest of the world? I had to watch a documentary afterwards to figure it out. What we get here is an abstract, arty farty mess of a film with very good acting. A missed opportunity really.
I only ha e one question: did Brandy even read the script before agreeing to appear in this film. This deserves a zero. I gave it a 1 because the cast tried, especially the creepy actress.
I was never gonna watch this because it's a Tyler Perry movie. But after someone gave it a "solid 4", I thought: ok, let me see. The first scene alone was enough. Typical Tyler Perry. He's the only producer who knows how to shock you with how much worse his new material can be from what you've seen before. I sat through it coz why would Amazon Prime Video spent so much money on this? A terrible mess. 2/10!
This film is so empty that when it ended I double checked the running time. My shock to realise that it was longer thantwo houres when it had so little to say. Also, the worst part about this instalment is that the writers are conflicted on who the goodguys are. The story is called Planet of The Apes. The humans are the ones who set this story in motion. And yet we are expected to root for them to get the planet back, and the apes are portrayed as a looming danger. Bizarre.
Weak storytelling. And the score that is meant to guide you on what emotion you should feel in each scene, is especially frustrating. The plot makes very little sense. Still not sure what was happening in this film.
A tour de force. Beautifully unhinged. Not a single frame is wasted. Emma Stone deserves the Oscar for Best Actress for this. 2 hours and 11 minutes of pure bliss. If you didn't care for it on the first viewing, give yourself a chance and watch it again.
Not as bad as the critics are saying. But hardly worth a watch. I learned nothing from this except that Lil Nas X's family stopped judging him for being gay and fully support him now. Everything else was just pointless
I really wanted to like this film. I didn't know the protagonist. So I did.y research prior to watching. I was so disappointed. There is no clear focal point here. It's meant to be a love story between the Bernstein and his wife. Yet he's presented as a shameless adulterer. There's barely any scenes that take you into his musical genius. The few there are just feel added on. Caret Mulligan deserves at least an Oscar nomination here. The film and the lead actor deserve to be completely shut out of awards season.
Such a disappointment. This is why family should not be at the helm of the retelling of an icon's story. Because they always have the selfish need to use the story to reclaim the person they knew away from the spotlight. Such is the case with this documentary. It has it's moments. But fir the most part, Donna Summer is painted as a reluctant disco queen. What's even more shocking is how little regard is paid to the genre itself considering the subject. They don't even delve into the decline of disco and what it meant for countless artists who se careers either ended or had to be reimagimed. All in all this is a lost opportunity of a film.
This film is a missed opportunity. This could have been about Michael Jordan and how the Air Jordan's came to be. Instead it's about the agents and execs behind the idea. They barely go into how they came up with the shoe. It's just a black and red shoe, according to the movie. There's a scene where Damon's character makes a speech for Michael Jordan to convince him to sign the deal. It's meant to evoke emotion instead it just falls flat and is manipulative. In short, for a film with a predictable outcome, they tell it like the ending will surprise the audience. Bizarre.
If you want to enjoy the nostalgia of Whitney's music, you will not be disappointed. But if you're trying to find out who Whitney really was or what really happened in her life, you'll get a curated Disney-fied mess. They gloss over all the tough years. For a movie that's almost three hours long, very little is said.I left this film feelingblike someone needs to make another movie or series about Whitney.
Easily the most disappointing film of the year. Not much effort went into the storytelling. Where Amy Adams was quite charming in the first film, here she comes across as embarrassing and frustrating. The film is so bad that I had to rewatch the original to remind myself why the concept worked originally.
Easily the one of the worst biographies in recent memory. It could have been so good. The story is thin at best, which is quite disappointing for a true story. By the end of the film you don't know who "the man behind the legend is" or what motivated him.
The problem with this movie is Billy Eichner casting himself as one of the two main characters. Otherwise, as a forty year old gay man, the film isn't that bad.
Seriously? Like seriously? This is one of the worst movies I've seen in this series. It's so bad that it's note even worth a proper review. The only redeeming characters here are Christian Bale and the kids. BAD, BAD, BAD!!!!
The film style works for the first hour of the film. The second half is for die hard fans. Otherwise you will just feel dragged into a weird interpretation of Elvis's life. I would be shocked if this film got an Oscar buzz.
Easily the most shockingly disappointing film of the year. From the very first Jurassic Park film, as a fan I have always wondered what would happen if the dinosaurs were cut loose into the human world. The ending of the previous instalment promised us the answer. Instead they presented a story where the dinosaurs were a mere footnote. Still shocked.
She spends a sizable portion of this mess of documentary making Shakira out to be a nobody who had no business being part of the halftime show. Disgusting and narcisistic. No wonder Mariah Carey doesn't "know her". She's clearly seen that side of her.
I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. It wasn't perfect. It could have delved deeper. But I was transported back to high school in the most beautiful way. This movie is not trying to win an Oscar, nor does it take itself too seriously. It's just pure fun. And if you didn't enjoy your high school experience, if you look closely, the final dance routine is for you.
Antebellum starring Janelle Monae already tackled this subject. However, this film turns it on it's head, where the slaves have no idea that there is a modern world out there. They believe that they are in the 1800's(We are never told how). The premise of this film is so salivating. However, the execution is so terrible that all it does is inspire frustration. How someone who goes from living on a plantation as a slave in the 1800's finds herself in the 1970's and yet seems to settle in without even slightly losing her mind, is bizarre, to say the least. There's no exploration of how 1970's America would be a complete shock to her. I could go on about what a missed opportunity this film is. But I'd just frustrate myself worse than this film did. Such bad storytelling should be illegal. It's so bad and implausible, it puts Tyler Perry to shame. Whoever made this film shouldn't be allowed to make another film ever again!
I wanted to like this movie so much. Even when it becomes absurd, with the poorly implemented twist, you root for it. But ultimately this is a missed opportunity to make a really thought provoking classic. All the parts were there.
The movie starts out very promising. Then it goes downhill fast from the moment they get married. No character development. Probably the most boring romcom I have ever watched.
Honestly what was the point? There is a rich story here. But just like the poorly produced Aretha Franklin biopic, you're made to feel like you should have rather been there.
The way I couldn't wait to see this. So disappointed. Another film that requires lots of patience and that considers itself smarter than it actually is. All the ingredients are there. But it just flops. With an over the top score that is meant to create unwarranted tension to boot.
Firstly, Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar for playing himself. This performance wasn't much of a stretch. The story itself is intriguing in that you are left just as confused as the main character and the confusion is never resolved.
The tone of the movie leaves you terrified for the characters throughout the film. But the film does fall short of fully exploring the themes it proposes. Mainly the characters' motivations are not explored. It's a fairly cold retelling. Great performances though.
The biggest red flag is Mark Wahlberg as the lead. But even worse is the villain's motivation for being a villain. This has to be the most ridiculous villain I have ever seen. He's tired of being reincarnated because he gets his memories as an infant while everyone gets theirs as adults, and therefore wants to end the world? Wow. That's where the movie lost me.
A less overly sympathetic portrayal would have made for a more compelling film. The film biggest mistake is that it fails to truly unpack the main character's motivation for the treasonous act. Also, the casting of the lead could have been better. There's a story worth telling here. Unfortunately it was poorly told. In the end it was like watching a rushed film adaptation of a Danielle Steel novel.
This movie had the potential to be the movie that finally makes Leslie Jones a movie star as well as launching several careers. But instead it became a silly film about nothing really. Sad. I would complain about the poor casting of the prince but his character is so useless that they could have cast a cardboard cutout for the part. Leslie Jones and Wesley Snipes kill every scene. Nomzamo Mbatha as the Prince's barber in what was supposed to be a breakout role is so underutilised, you wonder what was the point of even casting her. The dance numbers are surprisingly worth watching.
This has to be the most disappointing film I have watched in a long time. The plot holes are devastating. From a pilot from the 40s piloting a modern day fighter jet with ease to... Geez. I could go on forever. The plot made so little sense. How do you go from an origins movie that was so good it was a cultural shift in how women were cast as superheroes to this mess? And how do you miss out on using Kristen Wigg like this?
You'd think a film in which the creatures are blind and rely solely on their sense of hearing, the creatures' would have a more heightened sense of hearing. Seriously; even dogs have better hearing than these creatures, and they don't need it as much. That's the most glaring flaw. At least Bird Box as much as it was a knock-off, was about seeing the creatures. That being said; at least there is a sequence with the cult that gives the film life if only for a few minutes. It's not as bad as it could be but it could have been better. Stanley Tucci's presence in this film tricked me the way I see it tricked most.
Awful. But watchable. The movie was already so absurd, you'd think they'd just play with our suspension of disbelief and just go all the way. Instead a dud.
I need to find the book and read it. I know for a fact that it's far better than this film. I struggled through it, hoping that there was some smash of an ending. Instead I was bored stiff. The movie is not as bad as it could have been though. The saddest part is that it was just a skip and a hop and a slightly better script away from being great. Kudos to the cast though. They were mesmerizing.
Watching this film, I had no idea who Superfly was. The shock when I realised that he's a drug dealer. Shocked that this promising young actor would agree to portray this character. From shows like Power to this film, I cannot understand the obsession with portraying black drug dealers as some sort of hero just because said criminal wants out of the game. Say what you want about Tyler Perry, but at least his characters are good people. Very disappointed. I'm going to think twice the next time I watch a movie starring this lead actor. Only gave it a "1" because at least the production is fine.
