Disenchanted, a delightful follow-up to the beloved fairy tale Enchanted, delivers everything you could ask for in a sequel. It not only continues the original film’s magical mix of music, animation, live action and humor, but also takes the story in a new and interesting direction.

The movie’s only real sin is some dull lyrics for rough songs. Amy Adams’ return as Giselle is a charming one, and families will have plenty of fun sitting down to watch this sequel together.

Adams is still an absolute dynamo as Giselle, fluctuating between preternatural cheeriness and storybook meanness. As in the first film, the actress strikes a graceful balance between the silly and the sincere, embodying and even humanizing everything people love about fairy tales.

Much like its message, Disenchanted reminds us that every moment has the potential for providing us with a happily ever after, but it’s the good and the bad that makes it ever more enchanting. Did we need a sequel to “Enchanted”? Not really, but it’s cute enough to cast a bit of an escapist spell this holiday season.

Disenchanted lacks the charisma and curiosity of its predecessor.

Sometimes “happily ever after” isn’t a cop out, or an outdated, romantic notion that marriage solves everything. Sometimes it’s just the best time to stop the story.

Its lack of legitimate wit, cleverness, and focus makes a promising concept feel like a wasted wish, conjuring little of the magic that made its predecessor feel so memorable.

A Delightful Disney Essence Filled with Nostalgic Magic and Wicked Musical Rivalry, Proving That Beautiful Memories Are the Most Powerful Charm.231015 (3.0)"A beautiful memory is the most powerful magic." Even though the plot flows in an entirely predictable and expected Disney fashion, it is still so heartwarming and brings out genuine tears—that very feeling is the true essence of Disney. The film is brimming with a delightful, nostalgic charm that touches past memories, and the villain duet between the leads was especially fun. The opening song melody feels so fondly familiar, making one reminisce about how truly wonderful the first film was. Re-establishing the story from the first movie is great, as it is easy to forget how Giselle ended up in New York building a family with the lawyer Robert and his young daughter Morgan. The question of what happens when "ever after" is not the final ending evokes similar twists seen in modern fairy tale reinventions like "A Cinderella Story". Time has passed: Giselle has given birth to baby Sophia while Morgan has entered her rebellious teenage years, creating a natural disconnect between an eternally cheerful storybook maiden and an adolescent grappling with sibling jealousy. Feeling suffocated by the frantic pace of New York City, Giselle spots an advertisement for a picturesque suburban town and moves the whole family out to rural Monroeville. Singing about what to do when in need of a friend instantly brings back musical homages to Snow White and Cinderella. Amy Adams's singing voice remains absolutely enchanting and lovely. Baby Sophia inheriting Giselle's red hair is utterly adorable. Maya Rudolph is fantastic as Malvina Monroe, the town's reigning socialite queen and real estate developer, naturally calling to mind setups from "Once Upon a Time" and "WandaVision". The casting for Malvina's comedic sidekicks, Rosaleen and Ruby, is insane, featuring beloved television comedic talents from "Glee" (the OCD guidance counselor) and "Community" (Yvette Nicole Brown), while Malvina's son Tyson Monroe rounds out the family. Despite their friction, Morgan still dutifully calls Giselle mom. The fixer-upper in Monroeville suffers from chaotic electrical wiring, and Robert faces an exhausting long-distance commute back to New York, forcing him to wake up at five in the morning—though that feels practically like an ordinary commuter routine. Nancy, Robert's ex who married Prince Edward to become the Queen of Andalasia, pops in through the portal well for a casual visit right as everyone is rushing out, arriving as Sophia's godparents to deliver a magical Andalasian wishing wand. Their song emphasizes that the wand only functions with Andalasian blood, which naturally isolates Morgan, clearly setting up a miraculous climax where Morgan will ultimately wield it herself. James Marsden's signature over-the-top comedic acting has not lost a single bit of its charm. Both Giselle and Nancy struggle in their own ways after leaving their original realms, making one wish Nancy could offer Morgan some extra support. Morgan ends up feeling mortified at school because of Giselle's eccentric antics, from making her wear loud floral dresses to breaking into spontaneous song. The local cafe owner Edgar serves as Malvina's observant eyes and ears, predicting beverage orders just by looking at customers' faces. When Giselle's old chipmunk friend Pip crosses through the well, a homesick Giselle uses Sophia's wishing wand to wish for a fairy-tale life in reality. Overnight, household appliances spring to life, Giselle turns into a singing maiden, Morgan's school routine vanishes, and Monroeville transforms into the magical kingdom of Monrolasia. Malvina becomes an actual despotic fairy queen wielding dark magic, while the chime of the magical clock begins corrupting Giselle into the archetypal wicked stepmother, banishing Morgan into an attic like Cinderella. A magic mirror appears, and when asked who the most powerful of them all is, it reveals Giselle herself. Morgan represses her true desires while acting as the dutiful daughter, knowing another version of herself is hidden within. When Tyson asks Morgan out, Giselle's wicked stepmother persona takes over completely, forbidding her from attending the ball to keep her buried in chores after Morgan spent all day preparing. The adorable chipmunk Pip humorously transforms into a wicked, scheming cat to match his villainous mistress. Regaining her senses for a brief instant, Giselle shoves Morgan into the well to send her to Andalasia so she can save both worlds before midnight, right as Giselle and Pip surrender almost entirely to their wicked sides. The line remarking on how surprisingly liberating and satisfying it feels to be a villain rings delightfully true to real life. Giselle immediately schemes to usurp the throne, casually handing baby Sophia off to neighbors in typical villain fashion.

Not better than it's **** it's watchable.... because of it's comedic & magical scenes.

All the talent in the world couldn't make up for how uninspired and bland this long-awaited sequel felt. I would've preferred to see a protagonist that has thoroughly changed and become hardened by the real world on a quest to reignite the child-like innocence and sense of adventure she had in the first film. Instead, we got a story that's thematically not executed clearly, with forgettable characters, and just uninteresting ideas to offer. I was wanting to like the film since I loved the first but every turn the film made was just a missed opportunity for something genuinely great. The first few disappointments in the first hour of the film were sad, and the latter half with more disappointments started to make me angry that such little time and effort was put into the script.

Fell asleep. Takes away all the charm and heart of the first movie. If you liked the first one do yourself a favour and skip this one.
