Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition10

Superb game & decent enough port what are you waiting for buy it now. PC version is way better than the console versions its the definitive version of this superb game. There is a lot of misinformation about this being a poor port its not at all. Its certainly not the best looking game ever made but also with the upscaling graphical mods (check the neogaf forums) now available it looks very good in places & is very well optimised on PC. The higher resolution alone makes it look a lot better than the console but throw in the mods, AF filtering, instant load times, vsync & smooth FPS combine to make it a decent enough technical experience. Its designed around the MS 360 gamepad & wokrs very well with that. KB+mouse is not the best way to play this but still possible. This game has superb atmosphere, art direction, voice acting & creature/work designs. One of the best games ever made & also one of the hardest its not an easy game but also not as challenging as others its more about exploration & making the right choices. GFWL works very well here but most of the time you will not even notice its present apart from the achievements appearing onscreen (you can even disable these notifications if you do not want to break atmosphere). Ignore the BS & hate campaigns against this game its one of the best ever made & just has a unique & superb atmosphere. Only a 3.7GB install as the game is so well optimised & the textures highly compressed. No pointless lengthy FMV here or dialog to waste disc space its so the install size is small but the game world is still pretty large.

Fantastic over the top cheerleader vs zombies hack n slash action game. If you loved Dead Rising series this is similar except you play as Juliet instead of Frank West. OTT, Violent, Insane & Biarre. Its different but also unique even though its a mish mash of other game styles this has a certain Planet Terror Gindhouse movie charm & so much to love. Never a dull moment & only £29.99 in UK instead of the usual £39.99 (due to game length its SP & only 6-7 hours long but you need another 20 hours to max out all achievements). Only downside is no PC version (this would rock on PC please WB Games make that happen in time for Halloween!!).

Really bland game. An almost 1:1 360 port. No gamepad support on PC either yet Bioware can tell us they had to make day 1 DLC for 3 months but not enough time to support the 360 gamepad this UI is designed around!! You be the judge of how credible that statement is! Bland UT3 gfx & even worse average story which is little different to 1+2 just more of the same & confusing as well. ME1 got away with it 5 years ago now its just whatever...... If you like bland sub-std sci-fi with dated gfx & almost no PC enhancements then please buy as many copies as you can to let Bioware know they can get away with this & the approx â

Looks very pretty graphically but the gameplay is very boring & repetitive. Music is absolutely horrible & the narrator voiceover is very annoying, dull & uninteresting. Its a very overated game & is average at best due to poor gameplay but the annoying music & voiceover make it one to demo before buying. After 5 hours you will have completed it & need a lot of stamina to return for more. Shame as the graphics are cute & well drawn it reminds me a lot of Wonder Boy In Monsterland games from the 1980's.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 39

Absolutely brilliant Modern Warfare game. Not quite as good as MW2/COD4 but its still excellent & has so many strong cinematic setpieces & fan favorite sections. Graphics are very good considering how old the game engine is now but IW & Sledgehammer have managed to craft a good looking 60FPS action game which never slowsdown or lags yet gives a lot of rich detail in smoke, debris, fire, tracer fire, etc etc. If you liked the earlier Modern Warfare games then MW3 will make you very happy as its more of the same as MW2 especially & some of the setpieces are breathtakingly well executed & offer a strong movielike atmosphere throughout thanks to the strong sound effects, deep bass, movie like music & great voiceovers (all the fan favorites from MW2 return in prominent roles). All combine with the magic DNA of previous Modern Warfare titles to give the player a rich & lengthy gameplay experience. Spec-Ops alone has around 100 hours gameplay time. SP maybe 10-12 hours. MP has as much as you want to put into it. I was not expecting much after the massive letdown of BlackOps but have to give IW & Sledgehammer Games full credit for delivering another solid Modern Warfare title & Activision for putting so much money into this (must be one of the biggest budget games ever made to date!!) which shows a lot in how polished & well coded it all is. Well worth buying if your a fan of previous Modern Warfare games or just want a solid FPS with movielike cinematic setpieces.

Best looking XBLA game ever made to date. Incredible atmosphere & amazing graphics combine with Patrick Stewart's voiceover to give a very strong atmosphere which is very cinematic & involving. You really want to find out what's coming next. Unfortunately the game has massive problems which is such a shame as it really does look fantastic & plays like an interactive 2D platform game movie in the best possible way. The problems I am talking about are as follows: 1: Unforgiving ridiculously difficult gameplay. 2: Constantly dying & only progressing through trial & error as the objectives are not clear at all. 3: Poor checkpoint placement so you have to backtrack a lot on certain sections. 4: Very hard to attain achievements for completing the game without dying make this virtually impossible to ever get all 200GS on. Most players will struggle to get even 50GS for beating it once as the achievements are very poorly written & do not give enough reward to players for beating the game. It should have given all the achievements for beating the game once! let alone without dying!!! 5: Hazard animation timing is too severe/critical so this contributes to you dying a lot. 6: Pixel perfect unresponsive controls. Such a shame as I can see no way this can be fixed or tweaked with any patching. Casual players will avoid as its too time consuming to replay the same section over & over for hours just because the game does not make it clear how you can progress. If it did not have these problems & was an easy to play/progress game with more checkpoints/gameplay options (there are no difficulty selections) then I would give it 10/10 its really a stunning looking atmopheric game which is faithful to the original HG Wells source material & without a doubt an alltime great 2D platformer if only it had enough QA testing these problems would have been ironed out before release. As it stands its a tragic release as the game promises so much but the unforgiving gameplay, poorly conceived checkpoints/achievements & unresponsive pixel perfect controls cause nothing but frustration to the player & add nothing to the experience only remove you from the game as you start to question why on earth they did not make the game much easier & more about experiencing the story/presentation instead of fighting against the poorly tested finished product.

Quite simply the most astonishing 2D platform game ever made. Perfect atmosphere, controls, atmospheric sounds, surreal game world & all in glorious Black & White/Grey & White but it suits the game mood perfectly. A glorious game which puts gameplay first & drops the player into a beautiful but violent world in search of his sister. For the price on PC its a must buy even if you will only get 3-4 hours out of it on the intitial playthru striving to complete the game with less than 5 deaths to unlock the bonus level will take a lot longer!

Another botched Steamworks release to add to Dead Island, Homefront, Duke Nukem Forever. Why do developers continue to use Steamworks it adds nothing except more hassle to the PC gamer. No obvious QA standards publishers/developers can self-publish broken games @ launch no-one @ Steam seems to care there is minimal QA as they are too busy counting the profit margin! RAGE is just horrible. Maybe 5 years ago it would have ebeen something now its just a clone of Fallout3/Borderlands minus all the good parts but saddled with a broken concept of texture streaming via megatextures regardless of how good your PC is. ID sold out when they were bought by Zenimax now they have forever tarnished their previously excellent reputation so PC gamers will be very cautious about future releases. Tragic boring game & tragic downfall of ID From hero to zero in the space of a single game.

One of the worse games ever made on any platform. It has so many issues/problems & is certainly not even close to being a full price game or acceptable 2011 game. 1: Game is not even finished its an alpha version at best. 2: Gfx are very dated/bland/boring/horrible looking. Textures are missing/incomplete or just blank colours. 3: Gameplay is linear/boring/uninteresting. 4: Art design is very very lacking. 5: Humour & game content are in places quite offensive this is not a game for children/teens as it contains sexist & pornographic humour I do not feel belongs in a computer game at all. This game feels to me like a highly cynical cash grab to recover some of the lengthy development budget wasted (boy was it wasted here!). After so long you would reasonably expect something which at least matches Duke Nukem 3D/Manhattan Project well this manages to be vastly inferior to both of them & you have to wonder why this is considered to be a full price game when it would have looked & played poorly 10 years ago! Gamer beware this truly is one of the worse games ever made & without the Duke Nukem name would be a budget price at launch & is quite rightly getting a lot of negative reviews.

Great game on PC. Technically stunning with some nice but subtle DX11 eye candy & runs very smoothly on PC's up to 3 years old yet still looks decent in places. If you liked RFG then RFA is more of the same but slightly better. Its more of the same mega destruction as RFG but that's not a bad thing & this has some great weapons & enemy designs. Only big downsides to me are: Dull colour choices in places they have gone for a realistic futuristic look. Uses Steamworks as THQ dropped GFWL which to me is a backward step & limits how often I will replay it as Steamworks achievements are worthless to me!

Horrible game. Avoid & do not fall for the hype! ALL it has going for it is the water FX (which is very shiny & not as good as the water in Just Cause2 using CUDA. Its not even as good as the water in Bioshock1). Camera is awkward & poor it gets in the way a LOT. The developer is basically getting the public to pay to be beta testers which is why this is the 3rd release of this game in just over 6 months! Look at the poor 360 reviews as they are pretty fair & accurate. 3-4/10 is generous I would say this is a tech demo for water FX which 10 years ago would have been given away free with 3DFX gfx cards!

Never played the other OpFlash games or BF/Arma series so cannot say how it compares to them. All I can say is that its a pretty solid squad based game which is highly playable in SP with 3AI squad mates but as with most games there are some very minor AI path glitches you just repeat the command again or move slightly or wait for the AI to sort itself out (which is does at all times). Its designed more around 3 Co-OP squad mates than SP anyway & all the MP is Co-Op based you just start a match & invite friends or let randoms join you decide how & can select plenty of other MP options to kick/host private matches etc etc. As a game this plays like a cross between: Ghost Recon & Rainbow Six Vegas but set in the Afghanistan hills/villages. No QTE's whatsoever in this game anywhere for once you the player get to chose what you do gameplay wise but there are set objectives for each mission & some need doing within a reasonable time limit (the ingame pace is slow/careful most of the time anyway). If you stray too far away from the mission area you get warned by text & the screen starts to distort giving you enough time to return otherwise you fail the mission. In each of the 10 Campaign missions you get a bunch of sub goals to achieve before it will be complete. Some missions take well over an hour to complete as well its all about squad tactics & the right weapon at the right time if you go in all guns blazing thats not always the best way to do this so unlike most recent games you actually have to use your brain a lot!! I would say it has at least twice the gameplay of Crysis2+CODBlack Ops combined!!! (not hard I know!! LOL). Ignore most mainstream reviews as well they were not paying attention especially all the BS about controls not working at all or units not responding duh that's because in some missions you cannot just call in air/ground support strikes from copters/planes/tanks/AA guns until you get the radio messages to say so its not like you have unlimited strike calls only in some missions & only when the time is right like you knocked out the ground AA so the jets can launch missiles etc etc. This is a game you have to pay attention in to hear the audio messages as it does not guide you on rails or hold your hand much (although it does generate ingame markers to the next objective). The gfx are reasonable. It uses the EGO engine again and is DX9 only. Plenty of graphical options to adjust (2 pages worth) but its very well made so runs a constant 60FPS @ 1920x1200 with max everything including x8MSAA. For some reason it only supports Trilinear x8AF & as with most recent PC games there are several low res console textures but they are not that noticeable & no worse than other recent games. The big thing about the gfx are the size of the battle field its absolutely massive (not quite Fallout3 but bigger than any other PC FPS I can think of) & there is zero ingame loading (even the between missions loading is minimal anyway). Audio is passable & the ingame troop banter is full of swear words especially Sgt Knox (played by the actor Al Matthews who played the squad sgt in the movie Aliens in 1986!!! he is also quite funny & well OTT. The tone of the game is Team America vs Insurgents! Controls are pretty flawless. Keyboard + Mouse are fully configurable it also supports both the wired/wireless X360 controller. There was a day 1 patch (takes less than 2 mins to update/download) which fixes some very minor issues. There are several menus for customising your character class & other game aspects like ingame menus/positions etc etc. If you play it on hardcore you get no ingame onscreen menus at all so need a good memory for all the commands but will struggle to survive unless you have 3 decent human Co-Op players. It obviously uses GFWL for LIVE achievements/Co-Op but thats pretty seamless nowadays just make sure your using an online profile & your good to go for Co-Op. Not the best game ever made by far but also not the worse & pretty solid & bugs/glitches are very very low & unusually for a 2011 PC game you have to think for yourself & not just hit a single button to progress! I would give it 7.5/10 overall if it had ultra high res textures then perhaps a little more but you do not notice the low res ones that much anyway.
