Where Wind Becomes Quiet6
Jun 1, 2021
I've got an ambivalent impression on this game. Firstly, about its pros: 1) Post-Soviet entourage: somewhere in an abandoned village, where no one is left except the wind (yep!) and the protagonist. If you're a Stalker and/or Metro fan, this game is probably for you. It looks modest but tasteful. 2) There are animals with which you have to interact, and transport which will be allowed to ride near the end. 3) The bits of Dear Esther and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture: notes and newspapers here and there, voiceovers of the protagonist and his daughter, riddle-flashes. The last ones are usually not complicate, but there're exceptions. 4) Despite the overall sad mood of the game, it contains a few humorous moments: a jerky beholder that speaks from the underground, the quests with animals, sprints from the potato gun (yep!), a mini-riddle with the mine's name. An odd thing: there's a boss here! Well, now about its cons: 1) The game runs slow on average PCs, please don't forget this. 2) Some riddles, IMHO, are not logical. I could not resolve part of them solely (although I'm a big fan of Portal 1&2, and The Talos Principle), so I had to use external help. The asphalt's riddle is the most I hate, but I think that someone will rather praise it. My verdict: this game has a demo, so please play it; if you like it, buy the game.

I haven't finished the game, and I doubt I'll ever return to it. Actually, I was gonna rate this game 8/10, but: 1) I just *hate* checkpoint save system in every game, so I'm sorry, Remedy, minus one. 2) The final boss fight took me two days, and yet I haven't beat it. I can't afford to spend more my time for this! The game is 3 years old, but you, Remedy, still don't understand that there *should be* a checkpoint between the two waves of enemies? How long do I need to listen that "Forget ..." phrase? One hundred times? Two hundreds? One thousand? That's totally unacceptable! Minus one. Bottom line: 6/10. P.S. I'll never buy your next games (for example, Control) until you fix this one.

I was gonna score this game 8/10, but I can't forgive its save system, because I just *hate* check points! Well, sometimes check points can be tolerable, but this game isn't that case. Every time, once I run a game with check points, I practically hear the game's creators' excuses, "Sorry, pal, we can't implement a normal save system, so we're gonna make you pay your time for our laziness." You know what? "Thank" you very much, ****

I've completed this game several times - maybe because of my love to everything Antique, maybe because this game is good enough :). Technically, Will Rock is a clone of Serious Sam 1, but mind you, Serious Sam 1 is a clone of Doom 1&2. So please don't be prejudiced against it, because this game is good enough, no matter what did you hear or read about it. Just give it a chance :).

Contra: 1. The second game's plot isn't original - we already saw something similar in the first game. Pro: 1. The game looks just *amazing*! I mean it's like Crysis 1 back in 2007 - you just walk around and enjoy the beautiful environment throughout the *huge* levels. 2. The game play is even more enjoyable than in the first game. As always, you have a lot of options to complete your objectives. I personally prefer a complete stealth (no blood, no see, sometimes even ghost-like), and I've enjoyed both my playthroughs (ATM) very much. 3. Both protagonists are nicely voiced, and they both talk a lot. Since I'm a devoted Stephen Russell's fan since 1998, I personally prefer to hear Corvo's voice :). 4. The world around you is alive. The Karnaca's street musicians sing *nice* songs, and the people around hear and applaud them. The City Watch cops whine about their cloths and boots, and even sing sometimes, too :). People at Karnaca's port are doing their own business: fishing, sawing, selling, discussing, looking for job. You can share a coin with beggars, and they can tell something useful in return. You can save an innocent people from the City Watch's tyranny, and they will thank you for this. Also, there is a time travel in the game, and you'll have to change something in the past to reach your goals in the present. My first playthrough took more than 60 hours - isn't that nice? Bottom line: 9/10. Must have.

Blade of Darkness (2001)10
Sep 8, 2014
The game is just perfect! Blade of Darkness is one of the best hack&slash games ever created for PC. It has many dozens of special attacks, dozens of weapons, and thousands of enemies waiting to be killed by you or to kill you most violent ways :). The game's engine was the most advanced at the time of release, because it supported dynamic light & shadows much earlier than any other game engine ever. When you see a torch, you'll just stay and watch how beautiful it is. The sound tracks is gorgeous, so you'll enjoy it for sure. All in all, it's a masterpiece. The disc version of the game is very hard to find these days, but the digital version is available on GOG.

Tribes: Vengeance8
Aug 21, 2014
The game isn't perfect, but it has much more merits than shortcomings. Firstly, you can fly. Do you remember jet packs in Duke Nukem 3D? In Tribes: Vengeance, you can fly much higher, farther, longer, and often. This feature makes game play much more vertical, which is very fun. Secondly, the game has a good story, in past and today, with several different protagonists (including a very young girl without any weapon, a cyborg-assassin, etc). Thirdly, the game has a good, though short sound track. Plus, the game has a lots of free content (hundreds maps, skins, etc) via ****.

I believe that Tron 2.0 is the game that *every* IT-oriented person (especially the young ones) must have. It strikes life into your dull digital assistants - you'll see for yourself that even them have their own life, heart, and feelings. I know - this sounds stupid, but only until you run Tron 2.0 first time. The game is very stylish - everything reminds that you're in the genuine Disney's Tron universe. Plus, it's a Monolith's game (NOLF 1&2, AvP 2, FEAR 1&2, Condemned 1&2). Do I need to say more :)?

Clive Barker's Undying is a perfect example of horror-FPS. It's scary as hell - I finished it a half of dozen times, but every time I play it, I still prefer to do this by daylight, I'm sure you'll understand why :). It's a must-have for those who love horror games: it has a fantastic creepy sound track, a nice story, a perfect voice-over, an incredibly abominable enemies, a lots of weapons and magic spells (heck, you can use them both simultaneously), a nice but fearful locations (a half-abandoned Irish castle, a monastery and its catacombs, a magic world, etc). It's hard to buy a physical copy of the game these days, but if you don't mind about a digital copy, just visit GOG.

Dead Space 37
Jul 7, 2014
Dead Space 3, well, is a good enough game, although not as good as Dead Space 1&2. Due to the greedy EA's policy, the game has been split up on several DLCs. While many of those DLCs have just minor effect on the game play, the biggest one, the "Awakening", is a *direct sequel* to the main plot of the game. Got it? EA is trying to sell the part of the game that should have been included in the minimum package! Disgusting! Also, so named additional missions are almost identical from geometrical point of view. I mean, they are very, very similar to each one; the only difference is just enemies and loot. Meh. The giant spider boss is too enduring, and he is almost the only one boss in the game! Meh, once again. Bottom line: buy the game at your own risk. I'd recommend to buy a GOTY/DC/Gold/Platinum version (if they will ever appear) of the game, including at least the "Awakening" DLC. Otherwise, you'll just miss the final part of the game.

Dead Space 2 is not as scary as Dead Space 1 is, IMHO. Though it has its own merits: Isaac can now speak (not only just scream, as in Dead Space 1), and his nightmares about Nicole are just wonderful! Also, the speed flights through the vacuum are nice, too. Needless to say, the zero-gravity and vacuum features are still there, which is cool. Bottom line: it's a very good game (with less horror and more action, than in Dead Space 1), and I suggest you to buy it, if you love the first game.

Dead Space 1 is definitely the best game in its series. It's as scary as hell (if you know what I mean, although it's not as scary as System Shock 2), it has nice sound, and quality visuals. Also, there two unique features I absolutely do love (and I hope you will, too) in this game: zero-gravity and vacuum. Alas, the protagonist doesn't say anything along the game, whereas other people constantly say "Go there, make that," etc. Well, this is not the first game with a dumb hero, so I'm fine with that. Bottom line: if you love horror-action games, you should try this one.

I've spent about 48 hours on this game, and I should say that I'm *very* glad I didn't buy it (a friend of mine was very kind to allow me to play his copy). While it sounds ridiculous, but in Thief 2014, you *don't* even need to steal, at all... The game will anyway reward you at the end of each mission, so why bother? Nice, isn't it? The setting. Remember the old three Thief games? Ok, now forget them! Since Thief 2014 is a reboot, you will encounter *nothing* from the old ones. I mean Eidos Montreal has *totally* destroyed and erased everything that made Thief series so unique: Keepers, Pagans, Hammerites, Mechanists, Kurshoks, burricks, and hell - even zombies! Everything! The plot. Definitely the worst I ever met in video games. Just abominable! You still have some doubts? Ok then. Just try to watch the *bossfight* with Thief Taker General on YouTube and see for yourself. Yeah, *bossfights* in a *stealth* game. The audio. It's just disgusting. All NPCs have just two phrases, and several NPCs have even just *one* phrase. And you know what? These NPCs will repeat their "repertoire" till the kingdom come, with just *one* second interval. Sound propagation works so erroneously, so it was a real pain for me to understand where the sound came from. The protagonist. His new voice, by Romano Orzari, sounds so dull and boring! Instead, the old Garrett's voice, by Stephen Russell, was just brilliant! So if you still love Stephen Russell's voice as Garrett in Thief 1&2&3, you will absolutely be disappointed by Romano Orzari's voice in Thief 2014. Bottom line: it's a tasteless hack, so make yourself a favour and save your money for something really useful.

This game has no its own image - instead, it's a Frankenstein-like creature, with parkour from Mirror's Edge, with arms and shroud from Chronicles of Riddick and Aliens vs. Predator, with QTE from... you know where, with boring story, pathetic heroes, and dull NPCs. All that was good and even perfect of three previous Thief games has been thrown away: Keepers, Hammerites, Mechanists, Pagans, Kurshoks, burricks, glyphs, perfect voice of Stephen Russell as Garrett, wonderful ambient from Eric Brosius... everything! This game isn't Thief, it's a Hollywood-style fake with bloated budget.
