Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition0

Yes. 0. I have to quote a classic on this one: "What is the most important aspect of any game? Well being able to *** play it!" I HAVE to give 0! I like the game (at least the beginning seems like I could very much like the game and its mechanics). But how can I give something else when the game was released with game-breaking bugs that make me don't even being able to play it! My saves won't register! So great. I won't try to start the game for the fourth time to have the same issue happening yet again. I feel like if I couldn't give this score and this review for this game it's like I would not have any consumer rights whatsoever. If somebody says my score is not fair to the developer then I can just congratulate them on being an ideal consumer. Because then it clearly doesn't matter what is fair to the person who buys their game!

Ok. Good puzzles. But a fantastic storytelling. I can't get past a quality story. Especially if they are so rare in games and almost non-existent nowadays. Just soo many people are saying that some big-budget AAA games that came out in the last years have a great story. Because that just means they don't know what a REALLY GOOD story looks like because they have nothing to compare it to. They just play what mainstream media is showing them and what will pop in "recommendations" and that's all the reference they've got. Hell, most of them didn't read even one best classical novel so they really don't know what to compare something to. And in today's time, everyone is a reviewer:) As for me, this is 10. It's short and sweet and I absolutely loved it. What can I say. I'm a story-driven guy and the story and characters here overshadowed everything. I really like me some good gameplay. But nothing ever keeps me as much interested as a quality story.

I will tell you something. I thought this game was overrated for almost the first 100 hours (something like 1/3 of the game for me, I play slow) that I put into it... But then... I understood. I kept measuring this game and everything in it by comparing it to other titles. Then I somewhat stopped... Because I was simply getting too much of something else that was just so unbelievably high for, like, all the time. Something uncommon. And I finally understood everything. The most consistent-keep-suprising-deep-well-thought-world-and-characters than in any other video game maybe ever... Because I was playing for soo long... And the game, characters, stories... Everything kept getting better. And how all of this can also be non-linear and connected to each other in such a big game like this is... Just beyond me... Like, to this point, I didn't even think something like this on this level is even possible. Quests were almost all so interesting and tasteful and non-repeating and real like nowhere else. Like, each one, even the smallest, had a much better story than main stories in almost every game... ****, even better than movies... ( and definitely better than anything in the Netflix series but that's beside the point:) ) Like... I am not sure how to describe it... The writers aren't trying to give characters gimmicks so you could easily quickly say: "I know, so this is THAT type of character"... It's like they don't try... they just act and speak like real people, not video game characters. Like they are from real flesh and blood. It's like this world IS real. It's like you feel them (and not in a cheap way when the writers clearly tell you how you should see their characters and you are a bad person if you aren't just assuming and believing and acknowledging what the writers with their biases want because it's all just so surface-level and stupid:) ). Like, you really feel the characters as people in this game. You understand them. The world and them are just so... Really interesting:) And from that point on... You completely understand why this is the kind of game that destroys other games for you. Makes you smart enough to see what is possible and how other companies really treat you like dumb gamers and just look down on you (especially when they don't give you stories and characters but just safe propaganda with things trying to pretend it's a story and keep using sex, race or sexual preference as shields so they can call you a bad person if you criticize something). Damn... I could just talk and talk about this game. I get why people dislike it. They just don't get it and focus on criticizing the fighting system ( play on the hardest difficulty, it's a must, I am so glad I listened to someone before and chose it ). People dislike it fast because they assume a completely wrong attitude towards it. And, unfortunately, that's pretty normal for them because they really don't have anything else so adult in gaming to compare it to. So they aren't quick to see why... This is THE GAME. I know because it also happened to me:)

Best GTA-clone I have played for a long time... I think maybe to the time when Sleeping Dogs came out on the PS3. And I played maybe all of them (Total Overdose, True Crime, Godfather, Mafia, The Getaway 1&2, for me it's even better then "GTA-clone-on-horses", from PS2 of course, meaning the game Gun). Well... Saints Row: The Third was also pretty good. But this wins because it is also a great movie tie-in game with an amazing atmosphere and maybe the best "vocabulary use" in any game ever:) It's literally a very competently made honest love letter to the fans of the movie. And you can feel it. So if you liked the movie... I think it's still one of the best movie games there is. And definitely worth it even in 2023 if you are looking for something more than just graphics. I mean.. Still... After all those years it's a pretty unique game with mechanics you won't see in any other. And definitely won't any time soon since this is a very freedom-of-speech heavy game that could never come out now in the Political Corrences market of the west. And because of that, it's getting old only like a fine wine if you ask me.

Just a great game with simple yet advanced mechanics. Absolutely love it. There simply aren't enough stealth samurai games in this generation (or the generation before it). That's why I picked it. Then it turns out that the game has its own system mechanics that work so amazingly well that I couldn't stop playing. Love the feel of the game. Not your typical corporate AAA product. You can tell that the people behind it made it with passion and tried to give it a soul, not with politics in mind.

I Am Alive10
Oct 11, 2023
Hell with it. I Am Alive to give this game a subjective 10! The best climbing in history! Most realistic, demanding (but not too much), tense climbing mechanics I have ever seen in a game! And yet they exist only in this one game and nobody has ever copied them! Like... Why? Ok, never mind climbing. I love the premise, the story, the visuals, the atmosphere, the gun bluffing, the fights, how harsh and "not romantic" real-world-like things are, and how scarce the actual resources are. I Am Alive is doing just so many things right, and many of them I have still not seen done better anywhere else. So I just hate the fact that the game is so short and we had never even gotten a chance for a sequel (knowing story of making this game it's a miracle that we even got what we have here).

So this isn't the kind of game for me. I am "game'y gamer" and here everything is so simplified that it's basically just a little more than a phone game. There's too little actual "game" here (an exception for you if you think of games as an "I just walk there and collect a thing" experience). I like the minimalistic story instead of heavy-handed messaging me with preaching I could definitely see in a game like this. I don't like how the game "climbes for you", the generic music, the night cycle, and how the character walks (like seriously). But I will still give the sequel a chance because I love the concept.

I am giving it a 10. Many years after I beat it I came to the conclusion that this game is a gold standard for me to which I compare and judge other titles. I've become increasingly aware of that recently. It is just a really quality deep sci-fi story (which is the most important part), a great "setting-atmosphere-theme" (second most important), and a very good and interesting puzzle platformer (third). This game has 10 years now and is representative of our industry in that it simply doesn't invest in quality "not safe" stories anymore.

I really should like this game. It has many things that I should like and I did like in the beginning. But I don't know man... I think maybe the story killed it for me? I should feel intrigued and it is supposed to be mysterious or something... But after some time and good surface-level mechanics, It's like this game is too shallow and too stretched. And didn't leave any impression past that.

Just a great game. Loved it. It has everything I wanted. Isn't too long. Just enough for the material it has. Very atmospheric. Has that isolated desperate feel transferred very good. Liked the mechanics. I think I really liked everything in this game:) Just a shame that there aren't more games like it (that also fully make sense of their own environment and aren't obviously stretched by popular copycat mechanics from different titles). This game is maybe even the best representative of this exact theme and yet is so underappreciated and unknown... that things like this are one of many reasons why you don't like the industry and its biased journalists very much.

Love the world-building in this one. It's so in the back. But gives you absolutely everything that's important for this story and absolutely enough info so you can "feel" this world enough to make it real.
Also, the music is simply great. Graphics as well. The first half was easy. The second was hard/frustrating. Also, polish creators definitely tried to make most moments of gameplay kind of "unique". Well, they mostly succeeded. Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse (a little too frustrating). I will always (mostly) forget flaws in a game when it clearly has so much heart and competence put into the story. Like when you have a real story. I will take a small story like this any day over a "big", "epic", hollow, by the numbers validated by a political committee, production. I love this simple yet gripping, atmospheric, mysterious sci-fi story about a lonely journey into the unknown to rescue the woman you love... After she died...

My score is zero. Because the game requires an app to function. An app that was no longer updated and due to that it is no longer supported by Android on my phone. And they are still selling this game... Without any information about it. They simply don't care. That was one of the biggest "f*ck you" that I ever experienced as a gamer from any corporation that makes games. Thank you Supermassive Games. You are as competent as you are innovative. You are very trustworthy. Clearly, I have a problem and not you. I will never buy anything from this developer ever again.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice3
May 31, 2023
As an opposite to the authors of this game, I will spare you some time. Why the score is so low? I feel tricked. I thought this would be an innovative game. This is at its core mechanically a very simple-minded casual game with a very basic not think-trough (because of the camera) fighting system that bases too much of its strengths only on the main character while also trying to be dark, but its darkness is fully gimmicky and has nothing to do with real-world dark psychology. Also, that throws the idea of "this is a visual medium, show, not tell" out of the window. So it takes the worst writing lessons and the whole time just tells you 90 % of the story throw constant monologues through readed text. So if you like story games where the screenwriters constantly just tell you how you should view something and tell you what something is like and tell you what somebody is like and tell you how you should feel about it instead of just showing and leaving you to have your own conclusions... Boy oh boy, you will definitely love this one:] The scenery is always closely the same but with different effects put on it like fire, **** glass, or "drowsy", such great stuff. Also making half of this game looking for shapes in the environment that is mostly in different shades of grey while the character covers 1/3 of the screen because of the camera placement simply proves that in the end makers of this game had no idea what they were doing, and definitely no clear vision for this game. So 80% of it is exactly like a walking simulator. As I said, it's a game for casuals. Just so you know. I didn't know. Because all the reviews I was reading of this game didn't mention it! Also, it wasn't marketed that way! If that is "not being tricked" I don't know what is. Maybe It would be ok but the story is too busy trying to be artsy to be actually good and showing me why should I care about anything. The music is good and there is definitely too little of it. By the way, the main protagonist is the only thing that looks good (amazing even, such beautiful eyes!), everything else just doesn't (I love how corridor structured the game is, or how some of the grass has textures and some not, or how your hands clearly don't touch the doors that you constantly have to open again and again and how many textures in the scenery look like ps2 game (i hate this line but I ain't joking here) so on and so on...). And unfortunately, all of those close-ups of her face to show off the gimmick made her acting look forced and not natural (it feels more like an over-excited movie art student who couldn't hide the excitement of making a movie!). It takes you out of the experience too much. Well... I could go on and on and on. But I stop here. You get the idea. I hate that a "Story game" now just means a game where they talk a lot:) Because when we have movies where they "talk a lot" that definitely means we also have a great story here, are we not?:)

it should be 8. But games from the past with good stories and characters nowadays are aging like wine. The characters were so damn likable. You could feel they had a history. The dialogues, the story. So good. Repetitive level design it is. The enemy roster also. The ending is rushed in a "no more money for making it" kind of way which I hate. But also gameplay in an FPS that is still highly original and "very playable" 16 years later. This is what could happen if you would hire an accomplished author and writer to write your story and characters and leave him alone with your pc-censor-dictatorship... (the fact that today companies can hire some accomplished talented author and tell him what to write or what not to write is a good sign of what crazy commerce we live in right now. That's also why accomplished authors almost never write a story for a game ( or movies or tv shows) these days. Also after so negative reviews and opinions about this game, I definitely didn't expect freshness of the gameplay and likable characters for me (combat military psychic "good" priests with characters, are you kidding me you don't like it?).

I played it on pc but according to metacritic this version doesn't exist so... It is really one of a kind game. Definition of a hidden gem. Maybe it's not scary but it is atmospheric as f*** :) But if you want action, you have many other games to choose from, this one is slow. The combat is also kinda slow. That is not where the focus went (even thou it is also quite unique). The main focus went on the feel of the game and I absolutely love it. You won't find a setting like this done this tastefully anywhere else. I also like very much here that they respected the culture with their religion and history (mostly - the ending boss had very americanise things to say which was disappointing). But definitely overall respect it and Not americanise it with their ideology and so on like the current gold standard of western production (done with Chinese culture for example).

Just awesome :)) Definitely a game for the niche. But if you think you could like this sort of thing judging by the trailers then it is a very original, small, puzzle-like, all thought-trough production that is 100% a video game ( if you know what I mean:) Last production I played was Yonder:) But also many oh many big productions are investing less and less in gameplay and Idea and more and more in style/design of the graphics or being "movie-like":) because what matters is "how it looks on a trailer" and not "how it plays" I suppose. )

Wow. There were right! The biggest problems of this game start when the characters decide to open their mouth. And end when they stop. Look. I am a story guy. I even take good story over good gameplay most of the time. If the story is "just there" but the gameplay is good I don't mind. But if the story is constantly taking you out of the gameplay and the immersion... And while being cringy is so insolent and brazen... You can't constantly just ignore it, it's not a short game (Even if in reality it should be shorter because it works on the same old repeated task gold far cry assassins creed standard way. Because the gameplay loop doesn't need innovation right? Just the looks.). There is only so much "screenwriters being in need of self-adoration" that you can witness before it takes the cake. Just so dumb and not real-life alike it's like the writers don't have real friends or their social life is all smoke and mirrors or something. Sorry, but looks aren't everything.

All style. Very little substance. Overrated. Definition of oscar-bate for a """"game""""". No wonder it got such "high prise". It's an ideal product for a pretentious critic who wants to think about herself/himself as an art critic connoisseur. Actually pretty dumb. All that creativity could have been something great if someone had an actual direction for these people instead o everything everywhere at once and "every idea must be used" tossed into a blender. Surface level artsy-fartsy for people who think of themself as "open-minded". If this game was a person it would be a person that just talks a lot, doesn't bring anything into the end, and is not able to control it's own emotions, just without any consistency or self-control jumps from subject to subject on a whim, while also being addicted to self-adoration and in need of validation. Like a borderline or something. Maybe it actually is a game for borderline or something. For such high prise that this game got it was one of the blandest GAMING experiences, I had in the last few years. If not for the high prise the game it would be 5 not 3. That is all.

Ok. If I was a reviewer that had to give an objective review score it would be something like a 7,5. But I'm not. So I can be as subjective as I want. This game maybe doesn't have that good graphics and has pretty simple mechanics... But it made me FEEL things! This game has a great world design and the developers knew that running in this LEAF suit gives you amazing portions of fun so they make a lot of levels like that. But what was even more amazing was the soundtrack for this game. I mean... Damn. Definitely didn't expect this game to be this good. You just sense how much heart was put into it and it feels so positive and adventurous. (Also from the time when they didn't have to forcefully put politics into the game so that's that.)

Artistic popcorn flick. Shallow and safe. Definition of an artistic corporate product. Beautifully dark atmosphere in the first 1/3 of the game. Rest? Hmm... With all of this "Wooooooo What does it allll meaaan????" near the end? Not seem at all just like some stock footage that they tried to use again. Very very deeeeep... . The ending? Next to some visually dark beautifully moments... The black lady starts to grow into colossus hights and stops in the position "I AM JESUS" 8| (Just masterful storytelling, brilliant and deeeep) So my advice is: you must definitely stop reading/listening to all those nihilistic ramblings on all those notes. I regret picking every wich one of them. When I stopped it elevated the game. Becasue all things consider this game is subtle as a hammer. All of it. Maybe all of this hedonistic symbolism (Haha.. "Symbolism"? In this game? This game has no symbolism, everything is so on the nose so much that its hard calling anything "symbolism" here)... Maybe it's not shallow for the kids but... Is this kind of game should be aimed at children or adults? Be better and have more respect for your time. Read some of the more sophisticated books. Like for real. I mean... Yeah... Their hedonism destroyed their city (I won't spoil the main guy relationship story but it is as blank as it gets). This story was told already billion times better. For Christ's sake... Read the original Babylon tower. Billion times smarter and more real and current and relateble than any of this **** This is like "dark art for dummies". It's sad that with the current ability to read so much high art stories for free on the internet they still come up with guano like this. When I was on the boat I just waited for it to be over. You see... I'm someone who generally likes walking simulators:) But it's games like this that make me tired of the conventions of the genre. The number is low because I feel like they aimed for high art. And they failed at it in a way that shouldn't be praised. If you praise this game you need to play more games in this genre/ with these themes. Too much nonsense. And too inconsistent. It desperately needed single-minded-vision. Not worth it just for the few beautiful dark images. Also vr give me hard motion sickness so played it without.

Wasn't expecting such a cool down-to-earth story. That was my biggest surprise. The game is short, some mechanics are overused (it's not really a problem because THE GAME IS SO SHORT), and controls felt sometimes unresponsive to me. So why did I love this game? Don't know for sure. Maybe because the humor worked? Because the gameplay wasn't a copy of something else and truly something a little original? Because it looks and sounds fantastic? Because the story wasn't politicized in any way and things like that are very rare in today's times? In short: The game is great. But it is SHORT! I think it's sad because the developers clearly have talent and capability, and I feel they just didn't have enough money and didn't want to compromise their vision. I recommend it still. Because I loved it. But it's so short! Did I tell you already that it is short? At least it definitely isn't a game that felt so safe like it was created by a committee (as I said, no politics, that's why their next game is already them playing it more safe with their protagonist:) ). Ohh... And one more thing... It's really short.
