Despite having a strong first and second season, the third falls short. This is part appears to have occurred due to limited number of episodes allocated to enable an effective storyline . Season two ended with an intense narrative where we were about to be introduced to a zombie organisation and get some real action, only to have the mediocre and divisive plot lines of our characters take the lead. The overall arc of the season took too long to appear and by the time it did, it was the finale. Of course we had our zombie detective tackle her everyday life and her allies helped along the way, but the repetitive story lines came across somewhat childish and bland. It’s good to keep in touch with the originality of the series but we’re beyond that being the essence and driving force of everything now. Hopefully the renewed season four can up the pace, get the story rolling from day one, and ignore the average plots.

So many comedies fall into the ‘wait for the audience to click and understand the joke, laugh, proceed’ routine but not Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Each episode opens with a small snippet of humour before the opening sequence and closes with a well-rounded piece mid credits. The cast is diverse and talented, and combined with the writing makes for a pleasant fast paced comedy. The camera work in particular is to be praised as it captures the moments of humour wonderfully, often highlighting particular reactions that enhance the wit. The story line is well rounded and remembers points made back in earlier episodes which is great for a show fast paced and home to many plots. There is a blend of comedy, action and romance as well as some underlying tones that everyone can relate to. Overall, one of my favourite shows around.
