I have spent over 60 hours in this game so far and am still continually finding features, items, and mechanics that I haven't seen yet. The skills you bring as a player to deftly work through a massively wide range of RNG has a significant effect on your ability to roll with the punches and make it through runs. Noticing small features of the map, or item and ability synergies, or taking advantage of quirks enemies have, even down to changing gear between different event types to maximize your chance at victory are not only rewarded, they're flat out required in some runs. It's pretty clear that this game spoon feeds you tidbits of gameplay during the introduction and that there is a massive skill ceiling that only playing the game repeatedly for hours upon hours will truly hone. Like the difficulty in Isaac and Elden Ring, this is a truly difficult game that rewards natural tacticians and spending the time to learn the game through trial and error. It is absolutely fantastic and deserves the widest audience it can get. If it were multiplayer or coop in some way I would need an intervention to be pulled away from it. Amazing game. I also want to credit the writing, story, and soundtrack as they're all superb as well. The writing and story definitely improve as you get deeper into the game, so a cursory or shallow dive in might not leave you with the same impression. The breeding part of the game is quite challenging, and I liken it to the challenges of beating the truly difficult characters in Isaac or bosses in Elden Ring. It's not something you can casually accomplish as it requires real thought and meaningful actions to get you going where you want to go. It also requires time spent in the game to unlock facets and understand what kinds of effects actions have. The real pull is doing adventure runs and if you want to get better at them you need to spend time and effort learning how to make your cats stronger, while also implementing the things you've learned in a meaningful way. I don't know this for certain, but I suspect even the types of cats you raise are different per save file - a sort of RNG at a macro scale that has an effect on everything you do on that particular save file. If that's true, then your stacking RNG cats on top of RNG adventures... all mixed in with thousands of items, abilities, and tactical situations to make decisions in. Staggering variety if you think about it. I'm excited to see where it goes from here and hope it only continues to get better with updates, acclaim, and DLC.
