Avengers: Endgame8
May 6, 2019
I thought ‘Avengers: Endgame’ was a great movie, but not without its flaws. It’s deeply satisfying and very entertaining in a lot of ways. The themes of depression and loss are handled very well, and they allow the heroes to feel the most human they’ve felt in a long time.
As the conclusion to the twenty two movie and eleven year long ‘Infinity Saga’, it’s pretty much perfect. As a stand alone movie (connection to other Marvel movies aside), it’s good, not great. While there are some glaring plot holes that do ruin a few aspects of the movie, I can forgive most of them. The pros out way the cons here, but the cons are definitely there. I had such a good time watching the movie that I didn’t even notice most of the plot holes (not to say there are a lot) on my first or second viewing, they were pointed out to me in other reviews. Here’s the bottom line, it’s very enjoyable to watch, but the second you apply any kind of logic (including rules they established in this movie) to a lot of the plot points, it begins to crumble, but, it gives some characters satisfying endings and others a bright future.
I once said that after ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, I would stop watching most Marvel movies, but after this, I think I’ll stick around for a little while. Also, f*ck Captain Marvel, she ruined moments that otherwise would’ve been amazing.

Captain Marvel6
Mar 18, 2019
Meh. I liked it more than ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, but that’s not saying much. There are some legitimately good scenes, a few performances were pretty good (Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, and that’s it), and some of the action was good. The character of Captain Marvel is bad, she changes in no way. Brie Larson did a bad job, which is unexpected. She’s a great actress (see 2015’s ‘Room’), but it seemed like she didn’t care about this movie. Every one of her lines made me cringe between the mediocre writing and the terrible delivery. The plot is predictable, and music choices are really on-the-nose, most of the CGI is meh. The face work on Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg is amazing mostly. This movie is a tonal mess. The comedy is mostly hit or miss, and mostly misses for me, but I did get a few smiles out of it. It’s not a great solo movie, and it’s not a great way to introduce the character of Captain Marvel. There’s nothing that see does that shows me she can kill Thanos. It didn’t convince me that she’s any stronger any other Marvel character. In my opinion, this movie did not succeed in what it wanted to achieve, but it’s watchable, and enjoyable, and it wasn’t a negative experience, but I wasn’t blown away or anything.

The Grinch5

I'm going to waste less of your time than this movie will. It was extremely by-the-numbers, completely inoffensive, bland, generally unfunny, and extremely mediocre. It's obvious that the only people that cared even a little were the animation crew and Benedict Cumberbatch, and even he can't save this. I won't lie, I thought this movie had soem good ideas that were underused, like when the Grinch is, ya' know, stealing Christmas. The gadgets he uses were interesting and visually fun, but that's only about five minutes of the movie. I also did feel fairly festive during this movie thanks to the surprisingly beautiful animation. This is for sure the worst 'Grinch' adaptation. It's just like they stretched out the 20 page book into a 90 miute movie and gave Cindy Lou Who something to do to reach the expected length. The Jim Carrey 'Grinch' at least take some risks and expands upon the concept of the book. I'm not saying that movie is amazing or anythin, but I enjoying way more than this 'Grinch' just based on Carrey's performance alone. This not only the best, but my favorite movie from Illumination with 'Despicable Me' as a close second, which isn't really saying much since this is the second worst animated movie I've seen this year, with 'Early Man' taking the spot of the worst only because of the plot. I suggest you see this with your family, chug some spiked egg nog (as long as your at least 21 years of age), turn your brain off, and enjoy the pretty lights and colors. That's the best way to watch this movie.

Bad Times at the El Royale8

I’ve heard people call this movie one with inspiration from Tarantino, with which I completely agree. That’s probably why I like it so much, I’m a huge Tarantino fan. It reminds most of probably ‘Pulp Fiction’ if the general idea was taken even further then it that movie. I’m not saying this movie is better than ‘Pulp Fiction’, by the way, I’m saying it’s the same sort of idea that ‘Pulp Fiction’ toyed with. There are a lot more parallels between this movie a Tarantino movie. Great characters, great visuals, great dialogue, a ton of unnecessary violence, and the movie is even split into chapters, but sadly, I don’t think that aspect was executed very well. Usually, when a movie is split into chapters, it focuses on one character, one storyline, or just one thing in each. In this movie, it feels like they just put the title card into there for no real reason for a few of them. It works for the chapters starring Jon Hamm’s character (forgot the name), Miles, and Billy Lee. Otherwise, not really. I heard a few people complain that the plot doesn’t move fast enough because they keep showing the same scene over and over again just from different perspectives. I noticed that, and I see that it’s a big flaw of the movie, but it didn’t really distract me or ruin my enjoyment in any way. All the acting was really good except for Dakota Johnson. I personally don’t think she’s a great actress in general, and she wasn’t great in this movie. The scenery and visuals were great, I loved that they show what time it is through almost exclusively visuals and music. It’s very interesting. I liked pretty much everything. In the end, a lot of things work, but some things feel out of place or just done poorly. Despite that fact, I still highly recommend this movie.

Teen Titans Go! To the Movies6
Sep 4, 2018
I hate ‘Teen Titans Go!’ not because they ruined amazing characters and it tried to replace something that is just so much better than it, but because even if you took the characters out of the show and replaced them with original ones, you’d still have a so-so show. And it’s even worse that for most episodes you can just swap out the characters and nothing would change. Anyway, this movie was pretty okay. The animation was good, the voice acting was good but got annoying at times, the writing was surprisingly great, and the story was fairly unique. And I use the word ‘unique’ loosely since we have seen this kind of story, but not used in this way. Since superhero movie have fairly recently become a hugely popular thing, I’m pretty sure this is the first, if not, one of the first, movies to really mock it, so if anything, it’ll be remembered for that. The real strong suit here is the writing. I found that the writing was very strong in a lot of places, but it also felt like the show at some points. Overall, it was entertaining yet devoid of substance, but that actually works in it’s favor because you wouldn’t except a really funny and clever joke from a movie devoid of substance.

This movie is amazing. Wes Anderson does a great job forming a relationship between a dog and a boy that we can’t understand. The animation is gorgeous, the writing is fantastic, the acting is great, but I do feel that the twist with Chief was a little predictable. Besides that, amazing.

This isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, but it’s not good. The jokes are very weak for the most part, and the only thing that saves it is a decent story.

I thought this movie was delightful. I have no complaints. The reason my score isn’t higher is because the movie isn’t as strong as it could be. I also didn’t love the slapstick scenes. But besides that, charming, funny, clever, heartwarming, and even heart breaking at some points.

Won't You Be My Neighbor?9

Excellent documentary. I don’t really know what to say about it. It was calm and heart warming throughout. The fact that I went in not really knowing who Fred Rogers was and came out a fan of him is very impressive to me. I liked the little animations of the tiger representing Fred Rogers in the peer of his life, I thought that was a creative touch that you don’t see in many documentaries. I’ve got no complaints.

It’s a giant shark movie. It’s exactly what you’d expect. The acting is weird. It’s not really ‘bad’, but it’s not good either. The script is all over the place. The movie takes it self too seriously. If this were more of a self aware comedy like the trailers suggested, it would be much better. It had self aware moments, but it didn’t take as far as it should’ve. I also feel that an R-rating would’ve help it as well. The visuals are surprisingly impressive. The shark looks pretty good. I will say that I was never bored at any point. I’ll give it that.

I’m a big fan of Bo Burnham. His two comedy specials are some of the funniest I’ve ever seen. What surprised me about this movie is that there aren’t any jokes in it. It’s not funny, it’s just incredible awkward, and all we can think to do is laugh it off. This is a good thing by the way. As someone who’s essentially lived in the setting of this movie, this is the perfect portrayal of it. This is one of greatest directorial debuts of all time, and I couldn’t be more impressed. Everything was amazing excepted for some of the shots, but that’s to be expected from a first time director. I really have no complaints outside of it being too accurate. I can’t gush about this movie enough.
