Gran Turismo 74

It improves over Gran Turismo Sport in some areas (a full single-player campaign and vehicle tuning make a comeback), but in other areas, this game drops the ball. The flawed physics, online-only aesthetic, and overuse of micro-transactions reveal just how messy Gran Turismo 7 is. Definitely not a return to the golden days. Given how successful the franchise is, I can only hope for the inevitable Gran Turismo 8 to fix things right.

Gran Turismo Sport7

An outstanding technical presentation and proven gameplay alone cannot overcome Gran Turismo Sport’s shallow campaign and overall lack of content. I’m not asking for a 1,000 car roster (eg. GT5), but I do expect a little more variety in the game.

The gameplay is as solid as ever, but the numerous bugs and glitches, and emphasis on online play make this a sub-par chapter in the fabled Gran Turismo legacy.

Gran Turismo 2, in its Greatest Hits, fixes all of the bugs that plagued the original release while maintaining the classic, career-driven feel of the already massive game. Improving on the original in the best way possible, this is the ultimate swan song for the PSone.

A fully-realized vision of an interactive racing simulator, Gran Turismo 4 sees Yamauchi-San and his Polyphony team at the absolute height of their creative power. The most comprehensive single-player campaign in any racing game can be found here, carefully thought out and perfectly executed. The wealth of content here is outstanding, ala Gran Turismo 2, and the technical presentation is spot-on. Full of grace, vision and creativity, Gran Turismo 4 isa true benchmark for the genre.

To say this is vastly improved over the original version of the game isn’t quite scratching the surface. This almost feels like a different game entirely, with much smoother gameplay and presentation, added features, and importantly, all the bugs squashed. This is the definitive version of GT5, and I’d gladly take it over the soulless GT6.
