Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu

A definite crowd-pleaser for Star Wars fans and fans of the Mandalorian TV series. The Mandalorian and Grogu delivers exactly what it promises ... with some well-pulled heartstrings in all the right places.

There have been some exciting new stories told in this universe since the premiere of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, but watching this latest installment of Lone Wolf and Cub in space just confirms the degree to which Star Wars feels like it’s spinning its wheels.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is perfectly suitable as a summer flick to beckon you back to the theatres. But will it make a mark as part of the Star Wars mythology? This may not be quite the way.

My assessment is that this is a kid’s movie. If you think Grogu and the other tiny creatures are cute, you’re going to love and adore this movie. Pay special attention to the new breakout character, Trapper Wolf. But honestly, I wanted more, and Trapper Wolf is not enough. The stakes are not that high. The story continues the character development of both the Mandalorian and Grogu. If they failed their mission…whelp, off to another. This is essentially four episodes of the television series padded to feature length.

It’s been nearly seven years since there was a new “Star Wars” movie released in theaters and there are lots of ways to do it. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, a disjointed off-ramp that lacks the scale and ambition of its sisters, fails the task. As the Mandalorians might say, this is not the way.

Everything Disney needed to revive the franchise after its seven-year absence from cinemas is in here. The problem is there is only around 20 minutes of it, and much of the rest is hopeless.

There are feeble nods to The Empire Strikes Back here and palsied winks to Return of the Jedi there, as if callbacks from the Iron Man director Jon Favreau had some magical revitalising power and were not symptomatic of a film and a franchise that exists in a grim creative void.

Amazing action movie. Thrilling from start to finish. Amazing story and Mando on its best. Grogu and the rest of the characters are also amazing. No idea why the critics have given a low score if the movie is amazing. One of the best star wars movies !!

It should have been 2-3 episodes on Disney+ and even then, they would have bene mediocre.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is a serviceable popcorn flick. The problem is that this is a Star Wars film. Being just a serviceable film is just not what Star Wars is. Even the most controversial or even critically considered bad Star Wars film, are still memorable and cinematic. Nothing remotely important or interesting happens in this film. If you want 4-5 good episodes of the Mandalorian show then this movie is basically that. For Star Wars though, this isn't the way.

The Mandalorian, to think that this character once was considered a titan of the Star Wars franchise. The character that many thought he was going to save Star Wars….well he did, for a limited time. This movie arrived way to late. Plus they didn’t gave us first a new season that connects with this movie or a new season after this movie leaves the theater. But hey, you don’t need to see anything so you can watch this movie cause it doesn’t connect at all. Is a side story that no one asked.
