Supergirl

Ultimately, Supergirl is a story of dealing with loss and managing grief. It’s a movie that reminds us to celebrate what we have instead of wasting energy mourning what we’ve lost. Loss is emotional kryptonite we all share, and it’s clear that Supergirl, despite all her incredible power, also feels it.

With Alcock really making you believe a drunk can fly, Supergirl is still a fine addition to this new legion of superheroes.

That this movie never matches the brilliance of Miller’s goes without saying, despite the heavy-metal clanging. That Alcock manages to rise above the fray with a performance that never feels like borrowed goods is at once a surprise and a gift.

Alcock’s wildling Supergirl is the one reason to see the film.

These are the moments where Supergirl sets itself apart, particularly with Milly Alcock's unrestrained confidence masking a broken heart.

Given the splash Alcock made in Superman, and the fact that Supergirl is based on one of the best books DC Comics has published in the last decade, this has to be one of the biggest disappointments in recent superhero movie history.

Supergirl plods along, poised between sodden spectacle and snark.

I enjoyed the movie a lot more than I thought from all the negative comments. Go watch it an ignore the negativity.

I think if it wasn't Supergirl, this movie would be better... not great, but butter, but since it is Supergirl, too many liberties were taken from the source material essentially destroying a character that so many have loved over the years. I feel like I can kind of see what they were trying to do, but they just didn't do it, got lazy, thought the success of Superman and the fact that it's a DC movie would carry it. I don't blame the actress, I think she did pretty well all things considered. Just feel bad she ended up in this movie...

Supergirl became a really big flop for the DC Universe, and of no surprise. For one, it is supposedly a really unfaithful adaptation of the acclaimed Women of Tomorrow, hence the really bad reception from comic fans. On the other hand, general audiences just seemingly feel disconnected from this adaptation and Gunn's influence was so counterproductive. The use of 80/90s pop songs made it feel like a GOTG wannabe. Taken as it is, it's not a bad movie, but its just not enough in this day or age. Watch it when it streams on Max.

Wow, what a complete s &&t show of a film, completely disjointed, terrible story and no surprise it lost so much money. However Milly was good, would be great in a better film i think. Mr Gunn needs to move on quickly.

Suspicions that the art was created using AI; weak script; full of unfunny jokes; cartoonish villain; it's just another superhero movie made solely to generate money for investors.
