The Predator

Insanely violent, packed with off-color jokes, and of course, sentimentality, “The Predator” is one of the most enjoyable popcorn flicks hitting multiplexes this fall season.

Director/co-writer Shane Black, indulging his tendency towards glibness, brings an outright comic touch that turns the latest interaction between humans and these dreads-wearing extraterrestrial big-game hunters, into something of a bloody romp – as inappropriate as that sounds (and often is).

If you can’t check your brain at the door then don’t even bother with The Predator. The film is loud, improbable, manufactured within an inch of its life, and takes absolutely no real risks with the franchise. If you want action movie comfort food, this might be your movie.

In story and in visual style, The Predator feels less like a Shane Black movie than a generic, middling Hollywood blockbuster helmed by a workmanlike studio hack who occasionally asked Shane Black for advice.

The Predator guts and slashes its way to gory sci-fi mediocrity, but is further failed by abysmal pacing that loses characters, subplots and interest along the way.

While the Black magic of old was a great fit for Iron Man 3 – the writer-director’s last venture into franchise territory – it turns The Predator into a shrill, murky, retrograde bore, whose handful of punchy ideas get lost in the cracks of its terminally haywire plot.

Racially offensive quips, flagrant sexism and Tourette syndrome gags all contribute to this witless, scare-free junk.

I watched the film with my 15 yo kid. Both had a great time. Loved the movie, I hope they make a sequel. Great writing, acting and photography.

The Predator’s first attempt to step away from the typical story framework feels a bit unsteady. The story is scattered and casual, with character development that comes across as forced and formulaic. Even the iconic Predator itself has lost the captivating charm it once had.

6.5/10 While for a minute i actually thought they finally getting into another different and original direction, it's eventually the same old Predator premise that's been repeatable for most of the time in this franchise, it's another depends on the film execution whether it's still worth to watch or not, and while it's probably the most questionable entry in the franchise, and the uncredited Comedy genre, some of the characters in the film definitely helps to make The Predator for me personally still quite followable and quite works, Boyd Holbrook was good as a lead in this film, and the rest of his criminal partners were enjoyable and funny, Olivia Munn basically just an alien nerd scientist that contribute nothing, but her performance still ok i guess, Jacob Tremblay in i think his worst performance, and Sterling K. Brown as a pretty nasty villain, and yes he works just fine, and the thing that i really like also was of course the bloody goryness that they are not shy to show, i'm pretty sure male audience especially teenagers will love to see many people got cut in half, and the special effects was pretty good, overall The Predator and basically this whole franchise are still not giving us the new completely original different direction since 1987, despite this movie particularly still have some things that works, and it's pretty disappointing knowing that the Alien franchise actually able to do it and it works for me personally, 31 years later same old cases.

Another American army brag. Cringe dialogs, woo-haa military ridiculousness, stupid plot, lingering emptiness. I love the actor who played the detective Miller in Expanse. He should pick better movies.
