The reason this works so well is because it’s not just a 3D version of VII. It’s a return to the best era of FF, the 6 through 9 era, for the current gen of consoles. They took what works, amplified it, and removed what didn’t.

This game accomplishes everything it set out to do. Many crowd funded games fail, but this is definitely one of the most successful and polished, no question. A lot of love was put into it and it shows. It has a lot that made SotN so great, but exceeded expectations by adding deeper RPG mechanics, crafting, cooking, and best of all, a really awesome system that allows you to use the abilities of ALL the demons you kill in tens of thousands of combinations. It’s not perfect, has minor bugs, but you probably won’t care.

A videogame RPG in the most classic sense of the word. I use the word "videogame RPG" instead of RPG because the gameplay mechanics are lifted straight out of your favorite NES RPGs. That's a great thing if you love to grind and do meaningless fetch quests. There is some fun character building and progression, but it feels like the developers read an "RPG 101" book from the 1980s. Some people will like this, some won't. I personally did not find hundreds of hours grinding, doing the same repetitive thing, over and over, to be fun. There is not one moment in this game that is surprising. It's very safe, and the ultimate example of formulaic.
