Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Great sequel to a masterpiece. Combat is well done, brings a lot of challange and still remains fun experience. The story isn't as intriguing as in the New Order, mostly because it feeds on what's best of it's predecessor and adds more or less interesting gags, which make the game from time to time feel like a parody of the previous entry. Maps are diverse, vast and provide a lot of entertainment both when it comes to combat and collecting stuff during exploration. The main "base", which is Eva's Hammer, feels like a maze even after 10-20 hours of gameplay which is pretty annoying. What's most important - Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus continues to preserve dying genre of single player fps gems and is worth playing despite it's flaws.

It's an interactive book more than a game, yet it kicks the player straight in da face like a god damn train. Dialogues (tens of thousands pages!), atmosphere (heavy and gloomy like never before and never again), philosophy behind all of this and most of all the best story in the history of video games makes Metacritic scale too small to fully give justice to Planescape Torment. 11/10? 12/10? Does numbers even matter when we face eternity?

Frostpunk

One of the best strategy/survival games I have ever played. Very difficult to start, a little less difficult to master, Frostpunk provides a city at the edge of apocalypse manager and it's great. Atmosphere, storytelling and difficult moral choices, where freedoms are taken away from the people for the sole purpose of survival of the community is truly one of a kind. Player can take two choices - go post-apocalyptic fascism or religious fanaticism with no third option around, while desperately managing bare foundations of life supporting in world's end frost - coal, iron, wood, food and - that's original - both discontent and hope for the society. Must play. The only drawback of Frostpunk is the fact, that you wish to experience much more and yet the whole game feels a little like foreshadowing the greater whole.

Defense Grid: The Awakening

A decent tower defense game, well executed and somewhat polished. I felt like I was playing StarCraft 2 custom TD map, which was fine, but Defense Grid unfortunately does not add anything to it, I could even point out a few things that are missing (there are no items, there is only one buff tower, evolution mechanics are very simple and limited). It's still worth it for people who like this genre. A good thing about this one is map design. It's not only pretty, but also requires player to develop his brain to figure out how to use the terrain to his own advantage. The place you choose for a new turret matters a lot. Oh yea, the voice acting was good, but jokes weren't funny at all tho.

The First Tree

User ScoreDrMisiaq

Game is very toughing. The First Tree takes us on a journey through the depths of man's memory and trauma. On the conceptual and artistic level (and I mean both visuals and music) it's very unique. On the other hand gameplay is almost non-existent due to the fact that through the game we are almost entirely focused on the story told by dialogues and visuals. If the story holds, that's not an issue, but the story itself - unfortunately - didn't engage me enough. It was rather cliche and I-want-to-be-very-serious-life-drama type. I believe it failed. A possibility to send final words that can be found by other players was very nice.

Terrible performance after 1943, game is almost unplayable past that date, not to mention 1945+. Game should be labelled as a drug due to addictive value. Hunting hundreds of achievements while fighting against hundreds of anti-human mechanics the game throws at a player to make him SUFFER? Spending almost 800 hours of my life during the last few years on a map-painting simulator? Was it worth it? 10/10 F**k yea.

INSIDE
9
User ScoreDrMisiaq
Apr 26, 2021
INSIDE provides a great experience of a dystopian, totalitarian state we try to run away from as a child. Atmosphere, dark environment, light, disturbing music and great sound design makes it a memorable journey. One may consider INSIDE an interactive work of art rather than a form of entertainment. Brutal, unforgiving nature of the human world has been captured on so many levels (mind control slavery, police state, unethical experiments and making a show out of that...). Puzzles are pretty simple, gameplay isn't the most sophisticated overall, but it let's us to experience the vision without frustrating drawbacks or searching Google for a walkthrough to solve certain problems. We are fully allowed to immerse and sink into this world instead.

Fallout: New Vegas - Lonesome Road
8
User ScoreDrMisiaq
Jan 14, 2021
Lonesome Road is the second best expansion to Fallout New Vegas (second only to Old World Blues). Writing might not be as witty as the one in the base game or OWB, but it has it's moments. Story of ED-E is truly touching, two Couriers dispute over ethical and geopolitical implications of ongoing conflict between NCR and the legion brings new light to the events we all know from the Mojave and all of this is sinking in an overwhelming shadow of USA ruin. DLC stands out for it's heavy and gloomy atmosphere. Wandering the Divide is a very different experience than walking the Mojave desert - it feels more like Fallout 1 reborn in 3D than another desert segment of the world. Lonesome Road has it's own magic that I recommend to try. Worth to mention - it's literally the only DLC for New Vegas I had no technical issues with. No gamebreaking bugs, no game crashes, everything worked just fine, which is quite an achievement if you think about the base game itself.

An average expansion to a great game. Exploration is rather fun, the Zion itself is not the worst location (far from the atmosphere of Mojave in my opinion), but on the other hand the story itself is rather uninspired and does not bring anything I would like to remember in the long run.

Fallout: New Vegas - Dead Money

An exercise in masochism. This dlc has above-average written characters, rather decent story, important decisions to make and great atmosphere of post-nuclear, desert ghost-town. On the other hand: it's painfully repetitive, game mechanics introduced in this dlc are amongst the most frustrating I have ever encountered in a video game without any further satisfaction from beating them other than "Thank God, dlc is over, I am released from my suffering!". Beyond that - game is bugged so hard, that it leaves far behind the standards of New Vegas and it's other dlcs. During my playthrough, I have encountered numerous glitches (which were slightly annoying at worst and rather funny usually), but also I have bashed my head at least three times on game-breaking bugs. When you literary have to become an Internet detective, run the game in ten different display modes and replay entire sections just to finish the game, which - as I stated before - provides enough pain just due to it's anti-human gameplay, then something went horribly wrong. And you cannot even stop your "adventure" and return to much more enjoyable Mojave, because flock you dear player, flock you.

For it's extraordinary story, for it's mind-blowing sense of humour, for it's otherworldly atmosphere, for it's never-ending streams of sophisticated and absurd dialogues I find Old World Blues a truly remarkable and must-play expansion for the New Vegas. It feels grindy sometimes (I swear I was suicidal when 827123789th encounter against ROBOSCORPIONS! was about to begin with constant ammo shortage) and - like most of New Vegas - very buggy. When the only vendor in game has a frustrrating bug that prevents you getting money for sold equipment, it just can't have 10/10, which - by any other means - would be a justified verdict.

Immersive masterpiece. Sound, music, graphics, environments and most of all the mindblowing story makes it one of the best games I have ever played. Horrors supposed to be scary and this one is on another level. I've literary spent the third part of my gameplay time sitting in darkness and trembling, slowly losing my senses. Sure, one can point out a few flaws like repeatable sections (gameplaywise) of sneaking to avoid enemies, but those are just scratches on an overall perfect structure. 10/10.

Game is spectacular. I was waiting for pc port for so long, but it was worth it. I wish it was longer. Or maybe the fact that the experience is so condensed makes it even better? The only problem with this game is that Epic Games does not support controller, so I had to play with mouse and keyboard, which ruins controls a lot, but it's not the fault of the game itself (there are controller options in it!).

Game has it's flaws. Many of them - to be honest. Who did not curse on "another settlement needs your help. I'll mark it on your map" quests and other repetitive stuff? Who did not moan about overall simplification and dialogue tree? But admit it - Fallout 4 is an amazing game. I wonder, how many people really appreciated it after the failure of 76. It has main story, which isn't the deepest stuff in the neighbourhood, but really digs into ethics and questions the problem, of what the hell is humanity. There are tens of sidequests - each taking few hours to complete - which are as memorable as those from first two Fallouts. Sailing f***n' ship full of pirate-robots upon rooftops of Boston? Take my money please. Overall Fallout 4 is highly underappreciated and it deserves at least 8-9 out of 10 in terms **** video game, even if it goes far from the origins of the series.

Challenging? As hell! Fun? Even more! It's fair and extremely demanding platform game. After few months I made it to the ending credits. My controller died in the process. I've (almost) never felt so much satisfaction after finishing a video game. And after I've found secret level dedicated to Meat Girl, even harder than the final boss, I stopped playing. Someday I'll beat it.

I would give this game 9 for it's climate, storyline and overall immersion. From all Stalker games, which are famous not only because they are great, but also because of s***tload of bugs they contain, this one is the worst when it comes to technical issues. Seriously - bush acts like a goddamn concrete bunker for a bandit sitting and chilling in it? Bugs that prevents player from finishing main quests in final version? Developers made it ten times more problematic than still bugged as hell Shadow of Chernobyl. Nonetheless - amazing, must-have game with lots and lots of issues.

This game is an experience one cannot expect from a video game. Masterpiece. Philosophy of life dressed up in a costume of messianic parousia. Words can not express, what has been done here. "Simulation of walking"? Yea. But your empathy and brain cells must run harder than both your CPU and GPU. World design is wonderful, graphics are great and music by Jessica Curry leaves man speechless.
