Twenty Twenty Six doesn’t try to be that much more than Twenty Twelve redux, and that’s no bad thing. Ian Fletcher is a character strong enough to drop into any locale, and in Bonneville’s hands he is just enough of an egotist himself to keep thinking he can steer this new ship of fools.

Morton isn’t really interested in evoking Trumpism as much as serving up yet another delicious sight of Fletcher in a situation he really doesn’t understand (and doesn’t seem that keen on understanding either).

It’s a particular pleasure to watch Greater Futbol so deliciously roasted by “Twenty Twenty Six.” The six-part comedy may bleep out every mention of “FIFA” and “Cup.” But it does so with satirical glee.

Twenty Twenty Six is a funny take on a workplace focused on putting together one of the world’s biggest sporting events, helmed by a person who is experienced with all the craziness and somehow manages to get things done in spite of it.

Tennant’s voiceover is pitch perfect, but the absurdist energy that powered Morton’s previous projects is, alas, no longer there. What’s more, the series appears unsure of its targets.

While the new additions may be hit and miss, it’s still fun to spend time with this duo (Hugh-o?) – although I wonder whether it might be time for Ian to retire soon.
