Empire
A mercilessly sharp satire of toxic wealth, entitlement and class exploitation with a truly radical, subversive tone that separates it from the crowd.

Alternately hilarious and unsettling, “The White Lotus” isn’t a feel-good watch, but it is a must-watch.

It's close enough to a 10 to deserve a 10, which is very rare these days. Highly entertaining series full of satire and sex. If you can't understand the satire, you probably won't enjoy it as much.

Sharply written, beautifully filmed, quality cast and a magnificent score. What's not to like? A lot could have gone wrong in presenting a bunch of wealthy vacationers looking out at the sheer beauty of their surroundings and finding nothing but misery, while hotel workers struggle to contain their contempt, but everything, series wise, came up aces. Jennifer Coolidge is undeniable as a self-loathing wealthy woman and Jake Lacy is lights out as the **** preppy bro honeymooner. The White Lotus is a pleasing, intelligent, and well-paced romp, one think is certain though, it won’t make anyone miss overseas travel.

A darkly hilarious, existentially terrifying HBO miniseries. ... Yes, this is a hell is other people story. What makes it not just fresh, but thrilling is the way that Sartrean conceit gets filtered through the distinctive tragicomic sensibility of White.

In this self-dissection of wealthy Caucasian self-awareness, some subplots are just navel-gazing. ... Still, I got wrapped up in the dreamy dramedy. Looking's Bartlett stuns as a tightly wound perfectionist falling way off the wagon. Rothwell, hysterical on Insecure, goes 180 degrees as a wellness worker bee carrying the weight of moneyed sorrow. Coming off The Handmaid's Tale, Sharp Objects, and Euphoria, Sweeney confirms herself as the generational representative for soulful perversity.

The cast is all aces, upstairs and downstairs, embracing the beautiful character ambiguity woven into White’s script. ... Go in expecting a pleasing, intelligent, and well-paced romp, one that definitely won’t make you miss overseas travel.

Under The Radar
Unlike most peak TV series that drag on like a rained-out vacation, The White Lotus could use more episodes to explore its underused characters’ arcs, or at least let these rich nitwits twist in the wind a little longer.

Granted, there are times when the bleak humor is smart, and this is a very well-acted show, but too many of the characters never rise above caricature.

Finished season 1 because my husband insisted. Script and character developing without depth. Only decent actor the manager from the hotel. Season 2 gets better, more plot twists, but still quite predictable. At least nice to the eyes as Sicily is quite stunning.

"Universal Acclaim" I'm 5 episodes in and every character is insufferable and surface level depth with very little logic aside from what we are told. Is this what passes for good now? Production value of the show is great as is expected from HBO but the writing has started off at Westworld Season 2 level.

I didn't like this show at all. Except for maybe two characters I just despised all the people in the show. They were all hideous people that I just wanted to slap in the face and say "what is wrong with you? Why are you such a bad and conceited person?". Sorry but with characters this annoying it just isn't possible to watch the show with an open mind.
