It was more than just another teen drama because, in addition to its lived-in, believable characters, it had an undercurrent of fear and potential loss. That fear becomes reality and bursts to the surface in season two, which isn’t letting you escape anywhere. But it somehow holds space for both grief and joy, and that feels even better.

Whether you're Team Conrad, Team Jeremiah, or Team Belly, the premiere has something for everyone. No one is left out, which is part of what makes the series the success that it is. Every character is thoroughly developed, even if it's via telling instead of showing.

Great cast, amazing soundtrack and is the perfect example that books are not always better, excellent start.

There’s plenty to enjoy about the series, which is warm and inviting and fun. Belly proves herself to be a great protagonist.

By allowing all of the cringe, all of the hope, all of the tears and beach runs with blaring soundtracks, The Summer I Turned Pretty drags people in with the promise of a desperate love triangle, but eventually delivers a bittersweet reflection on maturity and desire — one that feels like it could be watched again and again.

Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty is at its best when it sticks to the teen characters.

It’s not the summer show we all grasped hungrily at in our romance-starved grips last year. It’s more of wave-after-wave of angst, grief, and fighting, with happy moments too few and far between to make watching Season 2 nearly as enjoyable as the first.

Because the source material’s appeal is so lasting, the series had the chance to resonate with adults too—unfortunately, by Season 2, it seems to have squandered that potential.

This started as a series of novels by Jenny Han, about a teen (Lola Tung) who spends her summers with her mom at the luxurious beach home of her best friends. This includes the brothers (Christopher Briney & Gavin Casalegno) and her constantly changing decision of which one she’ll end up with. This forms the crux of the series, although there are supporting characters with their own issues. The actors are all do a great job dealing with the constant emotional encounters, copious tears and regular declarations of love. Appealing to its supposedly YA audience, the soundtrack continually cranks out the emo hits. Thru all the back and forth, the appeal of the characters and the actors creating them makes the show a roller coaster of a love triangle that will likely draw you in. NOTE: Sit thru the credits of the final ep to see a sweet letter from author/creator Han.

Cons: Extremely overrated. The way people were talking about this show, I thought it was gonna be as good as The Vampire Diaries. It is not even close. It is a very cringey show. Some of the dialogue gives me extreme second hand embarrassment and don't even get me started on the dance scenes. The dance scenes are awful. The main character Belly is insufferable. She can't make up her mind on which brother she wants to save her life, and she has no remorse when it comes to messing and cheating on them. I see people online trying to compare her to Elena from The Vampire Diaries. That is honestly an insult to Elena. Elena has morals; Belly doesn't have any. The two male love interests Conrad and Jeremiah are also insufferable. I also see people trying to compare them to Damon and Stefan from The Vampire Diaries. Comparing them should be considered a crime cuz they are NOTHING alike. If Conrad and Jeremiah are the ideal male love interests for gen Z than I fear for our future. Those boys are toxic and have commitment issues. They are some of the worst male love interests that I have ever come across. The soundtrack for this show also ****. It is 90% Taylor Swift. Good shows have a diverse soundtrack. TV shows that have incredible soundtracks are The Vampire Diaries and One Tree Hill. Something that also ruined this show was that it was strictly based on the books they were adapted from. No one wants to watch what we've already read (unless it's a movie adaption). TV shows should be very loosely based on the books they are adapted from so there can be more episodes and seasons with creative plots and new characters. This is why The Vampire Diaries and Little House on the Prairie were such great shows and aired for years. It is because they had the creative freedom to be loosely based on the books. Pros: I'm glad that this show has a love triangle, even if it isn't very good. I am a **** for love triangles. After all, my favorite show of all time is The Vampire Diaries. Some of the scenes were decent such as when Conrad and Belly were walking on the beach at the beginning of season 2 and when they were shopping at Michaels in S3, when Belly was dancing at the bar in S3, and when Belly and Conrad spent the night together in the finale. Other than that, there isn't much good stuff to say about this show. Mind you, I am the target audience at 19 years old.

Conrad and Belly's love **** just truly badly written...also can we stop promoting toxic relationships as something romantic

It’s hard to decipher what is worse, the acting or the script. It is a remarkably terrible show. The over arching plot is extremely weak as well.
