This is bawdy, anarchic fun, still as smart as it is wilfully anachronistic. Huzzah!

Beautifully made and complex, and unflinching when it needs to be, The Great at times feels like a light meal, but then reveals its surprising density. It’s a show that’s easy to underestimate, but promises to be unforgettable.

Show is extremely under rated by ignorant users. Writing is far beyond even some of the best tv right now. The vibe might not be your thing but is very uniquely its own.

One of the most hilarious, well-written shows I've seen in years. Brilliant script, brilliant actors. Huzzah!

There’s excess, excess everywhere, and it’s incredible that something so flowery and deliberately overwrought could also feel almost fragile. ... But it’s also grown more confident in its diversions, and as the show’s Catherine and Peter veer further from their historical analogs, they become more themselves.

It isn’t quite the perfectly paced masterpiece that movie was; some episodes drag, including a smallpox romp that’s more tiresome than timely. Still, its witty dialogue and lively performances yield a sharp, fun dramedy.

The Great would have worked well in tart half-hour bites but its hour-long episodes feel a bit much, packed as they are with intrigue, indulgence and sleaze. The tone switches in a second from gleeful farce to unpleasant.

The Great tries to be irreverent and funny but fails on both accounts. In fact, some of what passes for jokes on this show is downright painful to watch because it’s so dark and mean-spirited.

Why do they speak with English accents in this show? It’ takes place in Russia. Also, lots of F-bombs.

The first 2 seasons were excellent and both deserve a 10. I'm not generally a fan of historical shows but I really enjoyed this one. Unfortunately Season 3 couldn't repeat that. There's something missing. It's not bad persay and I can't put my finger on it but I didn't enjoy it. I found myself losing interest from episode 6. And then I mostly finished it so I wouldn't leave it unfinished.

White, self identifying progressive (some **** how), woman saves the day, perfect progressive-gaze show and not stereotypical at all or filled with political messaging. It is funny though. Huzzah!
