The premiere episode is riveting--the best pilot I've seen this fall. (That admittedly is not saying much.)

I love this show. At first I thought it was for women but I will tell you it's for men and women. The acting is great and the story is really easy to follow. I felt bad for some of the characters when they would go through a difficult time during the Affair but I could see why the Affair happen. I hope their will be another season beside season 3. Great TV this is the reason why I have Showtime channel.

The Affair is my favorite TV show! The best series on tv ever! It beats everything that I've watched in the drama genre for many, many years. Delicate, intense, sophisticated, damn studied in dialogues and psychological aspects that concern humanity, relationships, emotions .... no special effects, shooting or pursuit, no serial killer here ... but the adrenaline and the force the story is entrusted to the power of empathy .... So if you do not have empathy or sensitivity to human feelings stay away from this wonder!

As unnerving as it is erotic, The Affair promises to be a show to remember.

The pilot (the only episode made available to critics at press time) has some difficult scenes, including an act of marital rape (or something like it), yet the acting is strong and the story is compulsively intriguing. The first thing you want from The Affair is to see where it leads.

The Affair is a great first date that has the makings of a great series: pleasurable, provocative, insightful, and with the promise of sexiness.

Striking the right balance with such a character-driven construct can be perilous, but with the casting and initial tone, The Affair appears well ahead of the game, to the point where many will find further attendance compulsory.

It is hard to find a suitable middle ground, when neither protagonist wants to implicate him/herself. That--this puzzle of what really happened--might be the genius of the show, but it's also frequently its great frustration. If audiences aren't fully engaged while watching Noah's point of view, then having to rewatch everything a second time around from Alison's perspective will be painful.

The Affair is my favorite TV show. I often watch it multiple times each week and even read the Recap in the NY Times were many people write in and comment. You soon find out that everyone sees the show and characters a little differently – as differently as the characters see themselves. The audience members notice the most amazing details, and many people interpret events and actions in their own way. It’s one of the aspects that make the show so much fun. Also the acting is wonderful. And for mystery fans, there are many of those too – not only the mysteries of personality and fate – but also a more immediate one – who killed Scotty?

Telling the story from different peoples perspective and issues about marriage and infidelity etc were the main reasons that people started to watch this show, i believe. But after few episodes the characters lost their credibility and everyone started to act like they were in a day soap opera (i mean like the Bold and the Beautiful etc)Maybe there is still a chance for second season but i won't be watching it, that's for **** i still don't understand why the golden globe went to this show either.

The positive things about this show are its pilot, cinematography and that it puts Maura Tierney back on the screen. There is very little chemistry between the leads. Honestly I wouldn't have an affair with one another when I look at from both of their perspectives. The repeat of the events in each episode is welcome at first but then slowly starts to get boring in each episode. I have watched 4-5 episodes then dropped it. Don't think I'll pick it up again.

The pilot is brilliant. But it quickly deteriorates after a few episodes and becomes utterly absurd. Regardless of how good the acting is at times, this was arguably the most overrated show of 2014 -- no wonder the reviews were based on the pilot episode alone.

Only saw the first episode - just couldn't bring myself to watch any other episodes. I started watching it because I heard from reviewers that it is pretty good and plus I like Ruth Wilson. Ugh. Was just so bored during the whole episode (two perspectives of the same boring scenes equals to double the boredom), brings nothing new to the subject, some of the acting is so-so, and I agree with some reviewers that some of the characters are obnoxious. Even the sex scenes were a big yawn. I was tickled by the end of that first episode but not enough to want to watch any additional episodes.
